We'll never know. It's supposed to be ambigious. What's important apparently is that Cobb doesn't care what the totem reveals. the totem always annoyed me though, because he gives away it's secret.
  2. Let's get morbid. I'm rooting for the Rangers, since the Cardinals won in the year of my birth and I'm always nervous about that "full circle" thing.
  3. sharpie wrote: I'm going Cardinals because I always root against teams from Texas, particularly the Dallas-area ones; a guy I work with and like is a big Cardinals fan from St. Louis; I try to root for the NL team; and because this run they are on is pretty amazing. That being said, I have pretty tepid interest in this WS. This is I think the problem with the regional nature of baseball, and the timing. I love baseball, but without the Mets for three weeks now, and fresh entertainment options in the Islanders and all the new TV shows coming back, my attention to baseball tends to wane.
  4. I'm torn between rooting against the DL and rooting against the Cardinals. to be determined I guess..
  5. Dickey Capuano Pelfrey Niese Gee My vote was heavily swayed towards IP. The best thing some of these guys did was keep Misch off the board.
  6. They only sign Oakland/Moneyball/OBP guys is the new they only sign Latin guys.
  7. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: got an email alerting me to a 86 reunion at Strawberrys Grill. Only $599 a ticket! with a list of the players that "might" attend.
  8. Gwreck wrote: I only listened for a few innings so I can't critique the entire broadcast. That being said, Verlander's pitch count was one of the single most important factors in the game: he's the best pitcher in baseball; the Tigers had none of their top relievers available; it's a potential elimination game. I'm not denying that, but we don't need a pitch count on every pitch in the third inning and a projection of how far he can go with every out recorded or batter reached. Walk and an error in the third with outs and they weren't even talking about the potential go-ahead runness of the situation.
  9. Gwreck wrote: ESPN Radio (free) has Dan Shulman and Orel Hershisher who are very good. The Tigers' and Rangers' local radio ($$ through MLB Gameday Audio) aren't. maybe they just had an offday, because Shulman and Hershisher were annoying me today. Normally I think they're okay. Mainly that it seemed like 90% of the broadcast was about the quantity of Verlander's pitches.
  10. TransMonk wrote: From a guy who doesn't think much of him during the regular season, I think Brian Anderson is calling a swell NLCS. Him, Ronnie and John Smoltz make a pretty decent national TV team. I think TBS should always let the local play-by-play guy call their playoff games. meanwhile the fox guys for the ALCS are pretty bad. on radio too.
  11. I assume you have to scroll up to find Jeter?
  12. TransMonk wrote: Gwreck's got 3 of the 4 teams that are still alive. His awards picks are looking decent as well. Ahh, right. though he picked Boston in the WS so both hiAL teams will be wrong there.
  13. none of us did very good. A couple picked the Tigers to make it this far, and some picked the Brewers.
  14. hit and run with Knight/Mookie in the 9th? Gusty to go first to third on an infield grounder.
  15. Benjamin Grimm wrote: That's assuming no "setbacks". Remember, we were originally supposed to see Johan Santana by around July 1. That was always extremely tentative though. Setbacks are always a possibility, but he's not a pitcher or a basestealer/premium defender. Of course, a little nerve tweak kept Ike out all year, so..
  16. TransMonk wrote: Five to six months is March or April, no? yeah. that's better than the 6-9 months they were originally projecting. if it's 6 months to 100%, he could actually miss no time..
  17. Frayed Knot wrote: The Cards handed out 'Rally Squirrel' towels to arriving fans. And despite that idiocy they scored four times in the 1st off Gallardo to take a 4-0 lead. Brews got two back in top 2 off the previously untouchable Carpenter so the match-up of aces not quite going to way they wrote it up. That's kinda cool actually.
  18. Edgy DC wrote: Peter Gammons tweets that November will see Houston change divisions, leagues, and ownership. I doubt this is a 'done deal'. Don't they have to vote/agree on it first, via new CBA, and release a new schedule and setup the whole interleague everyday thing?
  19. Edgy DC wrote: It's been a while for me. Felix Hernandez has been the popular Yankee WFAN trade for a while. Fister/Verlander probably get featured soon. Mike Francesa was talkingto Girardi about what he'd do differently in the 2012 postseson yesterday.
  20. Edgy DC wrote: I'm guessing Doc isn't operating from a comprehensive knowledge of the options available to the Mets. I don't know if it's still like this, but I seem to remember when all WFAN caller trade proposals called on the Mets to trade for: All-StarsYankeesFormer All-StarsFormer YankeesFormer Mets You forgot [*]Players who are Met/Yankee killers.
  21. metirish wrote: The thought of having to root for Burnett is not a pleasant one. he makes more. He's older. I'd consider it... if the Yankees paid most of his salary to the extent that the Mets could just release him in June if he wasn't performing. Also if the Mets had enough outfielders to comfortably play out there, which they don't. They'd have to sign someone. if you tell me you're signing Beltran and Duda will play left, sure. No way they do this anyway though. It's much much easier to extract limited value from Bay via platoons and pinch hitting. What are you going to do with Burnett? long relief? The roster spot for a pitcher is much more valuable to the Mets than the LF spot.
  22. Fman99 wrote: What a bunch of bullshit, the whole "first ever postseason walk off grand slam." Just stop it. I'm not paying attention. They do at least mention Ventura right? He's even current..
  23. smg58 wrote: Defense might be the biggest issue, but it might be hard to address. Pagan is capable of a lot better, and if there's a chance his injuries slowed him down I would not be too quick to pull the plug on him. If Bay is driven out of town, it won't be because of his glove. Duda? I want his bat in the lineup, but he'll kill the Mets in right field. The infield had a big issue turning two, and perhaps that's something they ought to address. That leaves Wright, and what do you do with him? I'm hopeful Pagan will be fine (and if he's not, he won't be here?) because the data does suggest that 2011 was the abberation. Bay's fine. Hopefully Duda will progress with some time. Wright's usually okay, but he gets into streaks where he's just..off. the turning two, especially with ball in play Pelfrey, is my biggest defensive concern, as it's seeming like Murphy's job to lose. Although the catchers/pitchers seemed poor defensively too.
  24. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I agree, it's hard to know what to do. If Santana returns strong, Pelfrey bounces back, Dickey keeps it up, and Niese shows a little more stamina, they'll have a pretty decent staff. But I'm not sure how likely it is that all four of those things will happen. I doubt they'll stand pat. I expect that they'll at least get a couple of Chris Young/Chris Capuano types to throw into the mix. I don't see them spending big for a free agent starter. I'm hopeful for Niese. His stepping it up to the next level could be a big part of the difference next year. They could try to grab Cap/Young type guys, but I'd just as soon go with Gee. If they're going to add a pitcher, I'm hoping for something a little better than that.
  25. I think it's important they trade for/sign/steal/clone one "better than Mike Pelfrey" guy. That's my hope anyway. Gee, despite perhaps deserving a spot, serves as #6 depth if Santana doesn't start with no training wheels like they're projecting right now. (or someone gets hurt/traded)
