    Thor (2011)

Finally saw it last night. (captain America I guess needs to be on tap..) I enjoyed it. Although most of my comic book history is fuzzy, because I didn't read that many of them. I always tell myself I'm going to grab some and read up on them, but I never know where to start, so most of my Marvel stuff I know is off of PS3 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance (great games btw. lots of fun)

He's doing color on the ESPN Radio broadcast of the series. 1) He and the pbp guy were talking about keeping long rallies going, and said the Brewers hit too many homers, which Bobby called "rally-stoppers". 2) They were talking about the wild card. Bobby noted that when they instituted the wild card in Japan, the wc first round series was also best of five, but the wild card team was penalized by starting the series down by one game. So to win they have to win 3 of the next 4. Put that one in the "I didn't know that" category. Later 1. as much as Bobby knows about baseball, it's always annoying when he cites some of that stuff that people accept as true but isn't actually true. 2. It's not a best of five series then. There is no way to play five games.

  4. They're not quite strippers (I don't think..) but I'm sure the cheerleaders will be on hand somehow.

  6. bases loaded for the Rangers. Bottom 9. no outs. score tied at 3. and Valverde gets out of it. short fly out to LF, 3-2-3 DP. yikes.

I know you are being Snarky McSnark, but there is a reason why ESPN tends to be 24/7/365 football. The NFL is just THAT damn popular in this country. false. Hard to prove, but I bet if ESPN devoted an hour to hockey in October, NHL ratings would shoot up. Same for WNBA. And if they spent more time on the baseball playoffs, those ratings would shoot up. Sports are often a very social thing, and if no one's talking about it, there is no hype to watch it. Multi-billion dollar TV deals certain influence ESPN/etc focus too. It's marketing.

  9. well, i thought the colorful one was the hat logo. It'd look worse with that bland white than colored I think.

I'd be able to watch Mets night games at 2 p.m., and even West Coast night games would start as early as 5 p.m. (And day games would start at 7 a.m.!) I think I'd like that. Mets were out of it last year when I was there. It's probably nice for day to day life, but didn't watch much of hte playoffs since I was doing stuff during the day. Of course, but dinner time most everything is already over and everyone across the country is asleep but you.
  11. I hate Carton too. The show's okay when they're actually talking sports, but when they to go schtick stuff like his "Mets fans for Yankees" or way too long non-sports/personal stuff like where boomer shopped for his shirt because Carton wants to shop at t hsame place, or they do some embarassment 'comedy' act where they keep pretending to forward a caller to Boomer and Carton like he's not on the air Which is just beyond annoying. It's not even fair, some of these one-time callers aren't exactly familiar with the process, and their voices sound so different on air versus on the phone so it's not like it's a recognition thing. Anyway, Sports Radio still has a market..but they're not hitting it, but perhaps because we don't turn them off until they do? I mean, I was in a bar for lunch yesterday and I was entertained listening to two guys next to me discussing who was better, Ruth or Griffey Jr, and talking about things like fitness and pitching/hitting in today's game. I was entertained. It doesn't have to be te highest quality discussion, but I'd be entertained on a drive if someone called up and talked that stuff.

  14. Benjamin Grimm wrote: It's probably the clear strong signal of 660 AM that gave them their market share. I used to listen to Mike and the Mad Dog too, because my drive was short and I wanted to hear any breaking news about the Mets. When my drive got longer I realized I had to just stop lest I suffer from idiocy overload. Now I listen to NPR. It's been six years since I've heard Mike Francesa's voice, and I don't miss him, or WFAN even a little. In the 21st Century, with AM, FM, satellite, Internet, podcasts, iPhones, etc to say there's "nothing else on" is absurd. There are countless alternatives to Mike Francesa. it's the short drive thing. At least for me. Music is out, don't have satellite. I'm not motivated enough for a quick drive to get an audiobook or download a podcast or plug in my iPod. And I think there are plenty of people out there driving around with just AM/FM and no smartphone or satellite subscription. With Twitter I no longer need the breaking news, often I get in the car at 5 and Francesa is 'breaking' something I heard 40 minutes ago. But I do still enjoy the occasion interview with Terry Collins for instance.

He isn't counterprogrammed in a meaningful fashion by the other sports station in town -- idiot MFY fan on WFAN, idiot MFY fan on WEPN. Problem is that most people are in the "it's better than nothing category" in regards to sports radio. I'm going to flip on 660 on my drive home, because my alternative is nothing. I want to hear about sports. It's not about the counter programming, It's about the leadership behind the scenes. Even if Kay was beating him the ratings, they wouldn't look to upgrade intelligently, they'd just long for someone 'hipper' and push the same formula of angry ranting, or stupid debates and frat-boy misogynistic antics. Look at the two guys they chose to run locally on ESPN radio over Cowherd.
  17. yeah. Love it. He clearly isn't even watching. And that's his job..who else could get away with that?
  18. I guess I'll play along. every bracket needs a soft 16 seed right?

  21. I know I said I wanted to see more Jose Reyes, but that's not what I had in mind.

Its like if THE VIEW had a bastard love child with THE HANGOVER and spawned a strangely sweet kid, surprisingly bright but with a personality disorder that caused her to fling feces around like a deranged chimp. This is what I expected from the previews, though I expected(well, expect, I haven't seen it) I won't like it. Although I'm sure at one point I'll see it. Come to think of it, I watched almost no movies before I met my wife.
