  2. aww, come on. i want to go to bed!
  3. Cruz wasn't a DH all year and just accidentally playing RF now right? geeze.
  4. read somewhere today that he'll be stretched out to start next season. Even if he's ultimately a reliever, they want him to get the extra IP.
  5. http://www.metsblog.com/2009/11/23/opinion-make-the-wall-blue-in-citi-field/ The sentiment has been around a while.

Did they paint over the white because it caused problems for the hitters? yeah, me too. I don't remember ever hearing about anything like that. Would've still had to have black dead on right? (or green) the whole backdrop thing right?
  7. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Today is the first I've heard about blue walls. I think the black walls look okay, but I wouldn't be opposed to a Shea Stadium blue. It's one of those memes that seemingly pops up from time to time. Every once in a while someone mentions colored seats too. Randy from The Apple suggested they just paint the Shea Bridge blue. I think that makes sense actually. (he also suggests they add the neon figures to it)

My 'choice' has been sign and trade for Pelfrey all along, and I'm not sure Sandy is going to sit down and run trade propositions past Warthen when it comes to setting up the rotation. Nor do I think he's going to pencil in Pelfrey to be better next year just because Warthen says so.

  10. Edgy DC wrote: Rubin reportz that the Mets intend to wait out the market and get a leftover closer later in the offseason. I guess I'm OK with that. I think we have plenty of evidence of what being over-aggressive in pursuit of closers can bring. I'm just not as down on the in-hand options as all that. I've read Alderson's previous comments as he's not 100% set on signing a 'closer', and is more focused on rebuilding the bullpen as a whole and assigning the job of closer to the guy that they determine is best at relieving.
  11. Oh, i should ask him if he's ever hung up on Mike Francesa.
  12. I'm gonna ask him if he's disappointed he wasn't interviewed for the Angels job.
  13. Edgy DC wrote: I'm suddenly thinking... Alderson. Omar Minaya's available on the GM front to replace him..
  14. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Extends our exclusive Jose negotiating period by a day. I'm not getting the sense that Sandy is taking advantage of this window. I hope I'm wrong, and that there's some intense hush-hush discussion going on. Given his quotes about it being "Reyes month" ,I can't imagine that they haven't talked.
  15. Fman99 wrote: Isn't this particular napkin full of self induced semen yet? it was, but then we injected it into Bartolo Colon's shoulder.
  16. Edgy DC wrote: Well, then, don't read. I'm not sure what I can tell you. If somebody roots for the Yankees to be overcome, I think it's best if they double-down on Sabathia. Irish seems to hope they lose him. You're the optimist. What do you think? Mets optimist (and I'm worried about that status if Reyes does get away) , not Yankees optimist. Specifically, I want CC to opt out and go to another team. It's not a given that he'll break down on some at some defined age/innings. Maybe he's just one of those guys that stays healthy. After all, I feel like experts have been citing his innings load on his frame for a couple of years now. He even had offseason, minor, surgery on his knee and recovered just fine. I then want the Yankees to give C .C. money to C.J. and get A.J. production.
  17. specifically addressing Edgy: You did indeed take offense to my opinion. The issue to me isn't so much that Reyes walked out. It's that so many folks think that's OK aside: I wish he had played the whole game, because of his contract status. I don't care about the batting title thing. That's okay to me. It's a long season. back to addressing Edgy: I'm not saying you said he didn't deserve it. In the article you linked (that I clicked on and read) the author says Boggs title was undeserved. That's what I was referencing. Especially when it's only assumed (at least as of the writing of that article) that he sat out to protect his title, and not the injury that he claimed.
  18. Edgy DC wrote: Do you just not read what I actually write or what? maybe I'm not just responding to you. maybe I'm just writing. I don't have a problem with what Reyes did and take offense to the idea that you think there's something wrong with that. He's won the title because he got more H/AB than Braun did, and picking and choosing 2-3 (or even 20) AB to make a case that he somehow doesn't deserve it (as the writer in your link says of Boggs) is just silly. Why not put an asterisk after it because Braun played in 25 or so more games?
  19. part of it is that people still think batting average means a whole heck of a lot. if Boggs had played and went 2/18 in those last four games, or if Reyes had made two more outs and Braun had actually gone 3/4, it means absolutely nothing in terms of who is 'better'. Reyes got ahead enough that it was possible. Doesn't it speak to his talent that he was able to do so? If you don't like that he sat out, maybe Braun should've had a few more hits going in. Same argument if you don't like a batter styling after a HR. Don't throw him a bad pitch.
  20. Edgy DC wrote: Are we there yet? Well, I'm watching a Yankee-free World Series right now. That's always nice. They made the playoffs, and were a center of conversation for a month while the Mets were mostly being ignored. And they did it with guys like Freddy Garcia and Bartolo Colon who were already well over the hill and seemingly found another one to climb up. I'm just tired of reading about how in a couple of years maybe these Mets prospects will be good and maybe all these contracts the Yankees/Phillies/competition gave out will be hamstringing them and then maybe we have a chance!
  21. Edgy DC wrote: I understand the sentiment of the last sentence of that post. But I expect the best way to that end might be letting the Yankees tack on another 30-40% of that contract to retain him, and then watching Sabathia's career --- like Sabathia's body --- go all pear shaped. logically that makes sense, but I'm tired of looking at contracts and saying "Well, that should go badly at the end of the contract"..we there yet? What about all those innings Halladay has thrown? can we get there already?
  22. Edgy DC wrote: Here you go: http://www.walb.com/story/1016256/braves-get-hampton-from-marlins?redirected=true Ahh, I saw that he was briefly in Florida, didn't realize the Marlins were paying him 30million as part of the deal. craziness. From Colorado, they got a young center fielder, Juan Pierre, who can hit and can run. From Atlanta, they got a young pitcher, Tim Spooneybarger, who has an above-average fastball and slider, a loose arm and a live body. He has a chance someday to be a top closer. They also got a player to be named later. And they unloaded Wilson and Johnson, who they thought could no longer help, cutting $52 million in salary liability. they actually come out ahead, moneywise. (and I guess Pierre helped them with that 2003 thing..) Also, a lovely reminder at the end of that article. Braves general manager John Schuerholz said during a Monday press conference discussing the Hampton trade that the deal will not have an impact on Atlanta's efforts to re-sign free agent pitchers Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux
  23. Edgy DC wrote: Curves are typically in the high seventies. Yes, I know hampton never played for the Malins. I thought that was one of your criteria. I mean, they didn't pay him that I can find. it's lot listed in his contract sections of his b-r page.
  24. Farmer Ted wrote: I continue to scratch my head on this one. Here's a list of all vacant stadiums they could choose from. Not to mention that SteinYanker Field in Tampa holds 11,000 (but I'd guess the Rays would nix that one). http://www.baseballpilgrimages.com/ballparks/abandoned.html they gotta stick around central NY or travel would suck. from that site, a fact I never thought about before. Shea Stadium was the last place to be used simultaneously by two MLB teams.
  25. Edgy DC wrote: The Marlins paid something like $30 million to Mike Hampton, right? no, never a Marlin. on Fulmer, 83-85 is too fast for a curveball right? more a slider type pitch? i dunno, i'm bad with pitches.
