  2. G-Fafif wrote: Funny how we've never seen Soupcan and Soup Campbell in the same place. Was just thinking the timing is awfully convenient.
  3. Centerfield wrote: I don't know why the Nationals locker room TV does not have a remote. I can't answer everything. Jonathan Papelbon absconding with it when Storen tried to decide what they were going to watch postgame and then he lost it.
  4. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Whatever happened to Rocco Baldelli? Looked like a star in the making once but iirc beset by some bizarre injury. Anyway, welcome back Metsies. Sox can put points on the board but that hasn't stopped us lately. Nothing has. yeah, seems like the Sox an hit but pretty much can't pitch. Let's see if the old 'good pitching beats good hitting' thing holds true this weekend. (Of course, the Mets will cool eventually and against a last place AL team is pretty much the best place to weather it..and then get hot again in time for Labor Day)
  5. This is what it's all about. The captain arrives home to be greeted by an ecstatic packed house of exuberant Mets fans (And some Red Sox stragglers) He should buy us all cookies. Red Sox rookie Henry Owens (such a Red Sox name isn't it?) versus rested Matt Harvey who I saw a graph today with evidence that he was definitely experiencing some fatigue. Time to get the pitching back on track, because even the Mets won't homer here like they did in those three band boxes on the road.
  6. Niese looks to Harang the Phillies tonight at 7:05.
  7. just watched the replay. Murphy makes contact at 0:02 in the clip. By 0:11 the ball is already in the air towards the cut off man. We can be liberal and say picking that up and firing it to third would take..4? seconds and round it to 15? That's probably way too liberal for 'no doubt' but let's go with it. The fastest ISTP home runs this season 1 Dee Gordon 13.95 seconds 2 Jarrod Dyson 14.56 3 Logan Forsythe 16.01 4 James McCann 16.26 seconds. So Murphy, who's not Dee Gordon, would have had no shot at scoring on that. Could he have made third? Well, assuming even distribution, these fast guys ran third to home in about 4 seconds, meaning they got to third at about 11-12. So right around the time the cut off man had the ball on the Murphy play. Murphy is not that fast. Saying he's 20% slower is probably conservative. At the very least there's going to be a play, which is sorta the point. Additionally, it was a single off the bat, and he wasn't gunning it hoping to get two, it wasn't until it was misplayed that the option for second came in, and you can see Murphy running and then slow up where he judges that the center fielder can probably field the ball in time to make it a play.
  8. Frayed Knot wrote: I suspect the Wilmer can't leave SS policy was more organizational than something decided by just Terry. They were afraid of the bad publicity for failing to find a "real" SS over the winter and moving Flores elsewhere would have looked like an admission that the one they settled for wasn't cutting it either. But now that the've taken the bold plunge, the result wasn't nearly as bad as what they feared. I suspect it's just that they don't like Ruben Tejada. Until August, Wilmer Flores was one of the worst hitters on the team and should sat. It wasn't about them refusing to move him to 2B, it was that they weren't going to play Tejada so might as well give Flores the AB where they don't have _any_ options while experimenting with seeing if guys like Muno, Herrera, or Campbell would provide anything.
  9. Lefty Specialist wrote: Rashida Jones needs to find better friends even more than she needs faster wi-fi. That commercial annoys me so much. How is she switching from phone to tablet and hopping on the WiFi (unprotected?!) in a snap?
  10. pace of play, stay in the box, be ready to swing. They got rid of the 'pitch to the bat' type stuff where the pitcher was supposed to make the hitter hit it to a fielder over a 100 years ago. maybe 150.
  11. Word on the street is the Phillies, disheartened by being utterly dismantled by the Mets this season, plan to spot the Mets a baserunner by drilling Murphy. Bartolo Colon versus 2nd start ever Jerad Eickhoff. Expect Wright to sit.
  12. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Baseball Prospectus odds update: Mets are now 88.2% to win the division, 0.2% to win one of the two wild card spots. Their chances of winning the World Series are at 9.2%. There are currently seven first-place teams (because of a tie in the AL East) and here are the World Series odds for all seven teams: Blue Jays 13.8% Dodgers 13.4% Astros 13.2% Cardinals 10.2% Royals 10.1% METS 9.2% Yankees 8.5% decent percent jump. A lot of that has to be Wright on the roster. #Captain.
  13. Tried to read Frenchy's lips, I think he said "Come on! This isn't fair, you're too good! give us a chance!"
  14. elimination number now at 20.
  15. Edgy MD wrote: Maybe. I'd encourage you to check that out. I've got to get some work done today. I might, home on baby duty. I haven't been confident in any of the 'at position' splits out there. This is why I need to find the time to set up my own database of current season stuff, but I never find that time.
  16. Even after the 0-5 by Ruben last night, the Mets are fourth in the league in fWAR by shortstops. The shortstop-rich team they were supposed to be dealing with, Chicago? Dead fucking last. RK TEAM fWAR 1 Giants 4.00 2 Pirates 3.40 3 Braves 3.00 T4 Mets 2.50 T4 Reds 2.50 6 Marlins 2.00 7 Cardinals 1.90 8 Phillies 1.50 9 Dodgers 1.30 10 Diamondbacks 0.80 11 Nationals 0.40 12 Padres -0.10 T13 Brewers -0.40 T13 Rockies -0.40 15 Cubs -1.00 I'm less worried about finding the money to re-sign Cespedes and more concerned that there's enough to re-sign Alderson. I'm sketchy on this, I'm halfway sure Fangraphs is crediting all of Flores' 2B success as SS success.
  17. How can the Mets top last night? Let's see! Thor vs Jerome Williams, who the Mets have already seen twice this year and scored seven earned runs in 11 innings. That's 8 runs, five walks, 15 hits and 2 home runs over 11 innings, in which he's got a 5.73 ERA against the Mets.

  22. I could see Terry 'retiring' after a WS victory, but I think that's the most likely outcome. I'm excited to see how he manages in the playoffs or if this race actually gets close in late September.
  23. Wrights 19 home runs are the most by a visiting player in Citizens Bank Park history.
  24. Phillies Elimination number is 22.
  25. Welcome back Captain America. deGrom versus Adam Morgan Adam Morgan is seemingly a soft-tossing lefty? Mostly bad? I'm not sure you could set up a better return for Wright if you tried.
