  1. Hi Kevin Long, it looks like Cespedes had a crazy boost to his BB% last season, and a slight cut to K%. nice. That's some solid OBP. i'll say .282/.348/.540. 35 home runs. 5 stolen bases. 130 wRC+. Only 2 IBB though (and Duda drives him in on both of those) 5.5 fWAR. 9 games in center all season ,138 in left, 149 total. 15 MVP points. Budweiser pays him to ride at the head of a fleet of Clydesdales in the WS parade despite 0 world series home runs (but 3 doubles)

I think the losing team gets a supplemental pick instead of stealing a pick from the signing team? Rather than guess like I'm doing here I should just look it up. Maybe later... doesn't appear to be officially published yet. but you're right, only one qualifying offer per player. But the compensation was nuked a bit, you only get compensation if the FA signs a big (says 50+?) contract. And the signing team only loses a third rounder, second if they're over threshold.

I don't think qualifying offers get quite the return anymore right? I know it changed but I haven't studied it yet.
  4. If Cardinals still refer to themselves as the best fans in baseball they must not realize that literally everyone else uses it as a joke.

  6. been before? Make sure you hit workouts on the back fields. Best part.

The team does have an option on him for 2018: $8.5 mil with a $2 mil buyout (iow, an additional $6.5 mil to keep him) one that possibly could get picked up for a variety of reasons. Rosario could stall or maybe they'd want to keep a vet SS on the roster while breaking him in; or Cabrera could switch to 2B or 3B and play alongside Rosario depending on what the needs as those spots are by '18 I'd expect them to pick that up, at the very least they'd get something worthwhile in a trade unless he has a terrible year. Average+ infielders with average defense are way more valuable than say, 1-tool slugging outfielders. I don't expect him to be like last year. It seems like he made some adjustments here, but repeating career years is unlikely. 140 games. 15 HR, .270/.326/.461 2.5 fWAR. passable defense. One Walkoff double. (Reyes removes his helmet)

Hell bat about .252 and OBP at .319. leaguewide OBP is .322 last year, so that's basically average. coupled with his poor defense. which is why so many people don't want to see him.
  9. I imagine there will be opportunities for both Gsellman and Wheeler.

  11. I'm going to need more than soreness from throwing after two years before I dig the grave personally. Especially since they're purposely not wanting anyone to really be throwing much yet.
  12. Doesn't make it to the second Mets homestand. Plays in 10 of the 13 games and hits two homers. .300/.330/.400

  14. this just in, pitching after two years hurts.
  15. who wrote that drek?

I'm not sure I'd bet on that (the first one) I'm fine with length of games, if I had one complaint about length (Besides the bonus commercials in the playoffs, I think the break for normal games is just right) it'd be the 3+ pitcher innings in low-leverage spots. Walk a batter, pitcher change for matchup, pitches to two guys, then switch again for the lefty. bring in the relievers ready to go and that's a one commercial break.
  19. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Does anyone know how frequently a runner scores when he's on second base with nobody out? the average team scores 1.0932 runs with runner on second in 2016, no outs. Of course, that's skewed slightly be that runner actually GETTING there, if you think a pitcher that has given up a double is MORE likely to give up a run than an average pitcher in any moment.
  20. yeah, because Loria honors handshake agreements? Why is Trump trying to buy the Marlins and is that legal?
  21. Edgy MD wrote: Know what would make for fast pitching changes? A subterranean bullpen below the mound! Then, when you decide to make a change, the mound lowers into the ground, taking the failed pitcher with it, and then quickly raises back into place with a new guy. to signal a pitching change, the manager tossed a smoke bomb onto the mound and poof, a few seconds later, new pitcher is standing there.
  22. Why can't Atlanta hang on to him until someone gets hurt? That's the way this works right?
  23. Edgy MD wrote: Is YSIII as advantageous for righthanded hitters as lefthanded hitters? latest data is from 2015. for lefties, and homers, it's tied for the easiest park with Coors and Camden for righties, and homers, it's 9th, still fairly home-friendly but not as extreme.
  24. dinosaur jesus wrote: There's no logical reason, for instance, that you have to keep going around the bases when a home run goes over the wall. But it would feel wrong if you didn't. Sure there is. The original concept of a home run was one of an 'inside the park' because there were no walls. Hell, Babe Ruth lost home runs because the ground rules were that if you hit the crowd of spectators in the outfield (450 feet or so) it was a ground rule double. Once walls went up it obviously became a different thing and they legislated the home run and said fielders can't leave the field of play, but that's basically just a league-wide ground rule codified into law. That's why the IBB thing needs to be discussed in a different vein, it's ADDING a new feature to the game. You can choose to face a batter or give him a base. Frayed Knot wrote: Ceetar wrote: I'd prefer they change this rule so that catchers cannot leave the box except to chase a pitch. But isn't that what the catcher is doing now during an IW, chasing a wide pitch? yeah, pretty much. I guess you'd have to legislate that he has to be in the crouch. I bet catchers leave early though. Maybe if umpires started calling the balk when a catcher leaves the box before the pitch has left the hand..
  25. Edgy MD wrote: And PECOTA projections, published this morning, like the Mets as 2017 National League East champs. I don't know what that's worth. Probably not much, but possibly more than Bill Pecota was worth in 1992. PECOTA's about as solid as projections come these days. 88 wins for the Mets and 87 for the Nationals. If we're going to tabulate these things, PECOTA has to be included or I literally don't care.
