If another injury pops up then it could be a different story but I'm not sure they're ready to do that just now. In a few weeks the trade market might open up a little bit. I don't know if anyone actually wants any of those three, and I wouldn't be afraid to bench any of them anyway, but it's not like Rosario is A-Rod, even if people act like it. And it's funny how quick people are to be all "I'm done with you" for certain players too, even if they still have value. But on the errors, it seems like for Rosario they might be at least somewhat rangy errors, in which case he's turning hits into errors not outs into errors. Big difference. With Asdrubal? He's gotta still be nursing something right? He's made some bad throws too that weren't errors. He just seems a beat off still.
  2. Mets need a 6th starter in Mid-June too
  3. From '70-'72 obviously Gibson drops off a bit, so the best ERA- does in fact belong to the Mets Thanks Tug! 59 Sanders 67 Wood 68 Blue 68 Seaver 69 fWAR Jenkins 23.9 Seaver 23.1 Gibson 21.4 Lolich 19.6 Perry 19.1
  4. yeah, I peaked at that. fWAR from '68-'70 Gibson 27.3 Jenkins 23.9 McDowell 23.8 Seaver 18.5 ERA- Gibson 58 Seaver 69 Koosman 70 Palmer, Wood, Perranoski, mcDowell 71
  5. Grumpy grumpy grumpy! Though good leading questions by Madden to get him amped up. I wish we had statcast/velocity numbers on Seaver though, besides that they'd be a lot of fun, I think we'd find he contradicts himself. I was surprised looking at it that his '69 season was actually his worst, or second to '67, of his Mets seasons (sans '83) and that it wasn't until '70 that he truly became 'great'. Big K% increase. velocity-based?

I think the reduction in the number of newspapers, and the resultant reduction of newspaper sports writers has been off set by coverage in other media. But I feel that has made the writers who remain get snarkier and more outrageous as they battle for readership and that had made them less readable. Not sure if this should be spun off into a separate thread. Later This this is the key paragraph: It’s not all good. There are team-centric, unpaid bloggers and writers for mainstream, or wanna-be mainstream sites, some of them even making decent money, who do little more than regurgitate passages from other sites’ stories, maybe adding a few sentences of "analysis" that add nothing of value. All that "content" does is crowd good writing and original analysis out of the sports space. The Internet creates more noise, and sometimes it's harder to see the signal. But it's there, and it's strong. And the thing about the noise is, sometimes it's not just noise, but someone else signal. You may find tweets about food/dinner annoying, but someone else in the same space enjoys them. There's no more "I can't believe the Times wasted space covering X" because we have unlimited space. There are more great writers out there, it's just less linear. You have to put in the work yourself to find them, they're not automatically the regular columnist at the New York Times. And that's the real key. Previously it was a bit of a tautology, "This guy's the best because he writes for the Times. He writes for the Times because he's the best" There were almost definitely better writers out there that didn't go into sports writing or get the chance, that today could spend a few hours a week on a blog and get noticed.
  7. That might be the Say Hey Sally (I'm not sure if it's just a rebranding or a new beer)

I'm not buying the Nationals, so really all I want is for the Mets to play better than Washington, by at least 2 games, before the series. That'd still put them 6.5 out but then if they win the series it's 5.5 and then you try to continue to play better than them and get it to 4.5 before the next series and win that and it's 3.5 at the break. Then you get your shit together, find replacements if you need them, and make them eat your dust.

  10. Tyler Pill enroute.
  11. felt like he was 0-2 on everyone. I guess that could be a factor of them knowing not to bother swinging against him, but it's usually a good sign. And from there he just..doesn't throw strikes? but he clearly can because he wouldn't be 0-2 on everyone then. I dunno. I mean, he didn't walk anyone the second two innings. He actually pitched kinda well. In a vacuum, I'd have been slightly encouraged by this start. If it was Rosario at SS and not Reyes and Montero walked 2 over 3 innings and allowed no runs maybe it's a different story? But it's just too much at this point. Why should we have faith he'll figure it out next time?
  12. I suspect they see something that we don't, because it's something that's not showing up in games. His pitches still seem 'quality' and they seem to think it's more a mental/approach thing than a "can't throw strikes" thing. So you correct the the mental problems and suddenly he's good. (It's the wildness that's the main issue) But I think if/when that was going to happen, it's not going to happen with the Mets. I half expect him to be sent away today for an extra reliever, though I guess if you were going to do that you probably don't need him coming to Pittsburgh with you.
  13. Conforto and Judge's numbers are very very similar. Fangraphs seems to like Judge's defense better, but it's all extremely small sample and meaningless. And like, is it even possible to have a bad zone rating in RF at Yankee Stadium?

They're pretty much of the opinion that, as long as you don't do something really stupid, the specific order doesn't matter a whole lot. The idea here is that the extra AB you get from Conforto's .420 OBP is negated by the much lower volume of runners on base by being leadoff. I don't have the numbers in front of me to say how many more, but it's gotta be good for a few more runs moving him down to second or third. Traded for simply having a few more total AB here and there and the difference between Conforto and Reyes every once in a while. This is why you put your best hitters second or third. You still want guys one for them.
  16. Edgy MD wrote: Bruce to the bench still doesn't get Conforto in the three-hole. Much like last year, Terry loves those homers with no one on base.
  17. Ashie62 wrote: Jose Reyes seems like he could be a natural in CF and lord knows he hits better than Lagares. You could move Lagares out of the organization and replace him with Nimmo. You might get a couple high A guys for Laggy. Pitchers please. Lagares is hitting better than Reyes this year. Reyes has no range in the infield, and no practice judging fly balls isn't going to give him good range in the outfield. Lagares adds a ton of value in the outfield. I'm still not convinced we shouldn't be aiming for a Cespedes-Lagares-Conforto outfield by July.
  18. I actually forgot about Reynolds. oops! Flores has good numbers against Cosart, also in a pretty meaningless sample, so he'll probably be in there somewhere. Granderson actually has a .910 OPS over the last 14 games.
  19. Edgy MD wrote: Good day to play José Reyes in center. TJ Third, Flores short? I guess. I hate that the Mets punt defense this aggressively. Though you have to do Lagares in Center and Reyes in right... I'd just play Granderson, 0/17 is extremely small sample.
  20. Gsellman versus Jarred Cosart, not Zack Cozart. No Padre has seen Bobby, whereas Granderson is 0/17 against 'red. If Bruce can go, expect to see Curtis sit.
  21. read somewhere that fwiw (not much) Harvey is in the top 5 or so for 'best' lineups faced. In addition to Henry Hops there's a Say Hey Sally (a pilsner), which is a great name imo. Mikkeller is Danish (As is his brother, Evil Twin) though he did open a microbrewery/pub in San Diego, and Evil Twin brews at Two Roads in CT a bunch. I digress. http://mikkeller.dk/2017/04/02/beer-for-city-field/ I don't know if it's the hoppiest (I haven't had it) there are a few other options
  22. I'm hoping there's some some repetitions needed for Harvey off surgery and what not and he'll round out into somewhat closer to his 'norm' by July.
