  1. If I could afford it and didn't have kids to get back to I'd be all over tonight's game. Probably a prime opportunity to roam around relatively unimpeded.

Exactly. the 'projections' for the Mets and Nats haven't changed that much off of 14 games, but they have near equal projected win totals now thanks to the hot start. Understood on both fronts. And I'm not trying to take anything away from what they've done. Just saying that a 9 game winning streak is nice, but it doesn't promise anything going forward. really nothing about any 14 games says much about anything. :-D '62 Mets had a 9-3 stretch once. As long as they win 3/5 and 4/7 when it matters at the end..
  3. There's a lot of luck in baseball, sure. Maybe the Mets 'true talent' was more of a 7-2 instead of a 9-0 during that streak. But they stole two wins. fine. They also timed the hot streak against the Nats, and hopefully continue it against the Nats. Sometimes that's enough. Get hot at the right time and annihilate your division rival say 15-4 in 19 games and that's sometimes all you need. But on the reverse side, maybe instead of a 6 game losing streak they go 2-4 when they're cold. they seem to have enough talent spread around to be a little slump-proof, in the sense that nothing relies on just one or two guys.

  6. Centerfield wrote: They are seven back in the loss column. As long as we don’t get swept, 7 losses will can take some time to make up. yeah, they're probably not going 19-0 against the Nats this year nor continuing the 12-2 pace. It'd be amazing if they continued it for three more games, but if they happened to lose a series, it'll happen. It's a long season. Even a sweep doesn't mean the Mets get to coast the rest of the way. It's hard to believe these Mets could lose two games in a week though. they dont' really do that.
  7. welcome to the Apple club Frazier. Matz walking guys, but they're certainly not hitting it.

He treats like an old former-athlete would be expected to tweet, it's nothing particularly interesting and mostly it's just a way to promote his book. the salt and pepper thing will die down a little as the media gets used to it, and it'll just be something the team does and that @mets probably memes constantly. except for National broadcasts when they discover it of course.
  9. Centerfield wrote: I think it was FK that said he's surprised when a 100 MPH pitch hits a hand and it's broken. Well, be surprised no more. I would guess 12 weeks for a hand fracture. See you at the AS Break. Um, so yeah, we need a catcher. I guess maybe you take a flyer on Montero or something? initial reports are it's a tiny fracture can could be only 3 weeks, but that feels optimistic. I think they'll definitely feel out the Montero types first, and give Loboton and Nido some looks in the short term.
  10. oof, that's a shame. and broken hands tend to sap power for a bit even after healed i believe.
  11. also I'm not sure someone so quiet would fit in with this team.

Not ignoring it, saying it's wrong to call balls and strikes based on where a catcher moves his glove to. humans are dumb. This is why we shouldn't trust them to do important things like drive, or call balls and strikes.
  13. d'Kong76 wrote: but he's perhaps not that good a framer. Just to get it out of the way early this year: If an umpire is calling balls and strikes based on the catcher framing a pitch he's not doing his job properly. The strike zone is where the ball crosses the plate not where the catcher's glove is or where it magically ends up. I now return you to the J T Realmuto discussion. and until we get robo-umps, the ability of a catcher to make an umpire do a bad job is still a valid value-add.
  14. Realmuto's got a great pop-time, which will attract attention because Plawecki and d'Arnaud don't, but he's perhaps not that good a framer. bunch of his WAR is tied up in defense. He's still a good hitter, he's just not a great hitter. I dunno, I'd be fine with him but I don't think I'd give up Nimmo for him.
  15. the thing is, he's hurt.
  16. I have hope for Wheeler. healthy Wheeler, having pitched last year Wheeler. Mostly just a tick above his 2014, but that'd be good for 3.1 fWAR and very very helpful. 9.11 K/9 3.49 BB/9 3.44 ERA. 185 IP.

Later even they don't care. it doesn't really seem to be something that gets anyone more money, in fact people have complained about that very fact. Though they don't even typically cite holds. Centerfield wrote: Did Ramos get the save? You have to either pitch a full inning or enter the game with the tying run (either on deck or in the hole, i forget which)
  18. I mean, I don't care about saves so it'd hard to care about a stat that's basically setting up a save. I don't even care enough to confirm the rule that you don't get a hold if you finish the game. I don't speak for all baseball fans, but I don't think holds are particularly noted by anyone.

Frayed Knot wrote: Not sure what's worse, that a 6-year Met / promising player / former 1st round draft pick / major trade pick-up has quite possibly played his last game as a Met without ever had a full season under his belt, or that the news of a starting player being lost for maybe the season gets stuffed onto Page 4 of what's likely to be a season-long, 25-page, all-purpose thread? OK, it's definitely the former but the latter bothers me also. I didn't even realize it was his last season tbh and hadn't quite connected the 'season is probably over' bits. hell, we're probably lucky teams don't just DFA guys in this situation.
  21. Lefty Specialist wrote: Lobaton's not on the 40 or he would have been up. But I'd have to think Jose's the long-term backup here, unless Nido starts tearing it up. Montero's really fallen off a cliff since his D-Back days. Wouldn't want him. if d'Arnaud needs surgery you can 60 day him probably and make the roster spot.
  22. My only worries are injury ones. everything else is too small sample size to even hit my radar.
  23. SNY's trivia question: Longest tenured Marlin?
  24. G-Fafif wrote: Some goon caller to WFAN, prefacing his comment with "this isn't gonna be popular and probably a little politically incorrect," suggests Mets have it in for those who are forthright in their Christian faith, citing Murphy not being retained almost two-and-a-half years ago and Nimmo today. Oswalt, a known Satan-worshipper, couldn't be reached for a statement. *checks* Yup, this is still the organization employing the 'christianity is my brand' guy.
