  1. The Mets are having an event tomorrow to show 'what's new' to the media (And not me this year, not that I'd justify taking a day off to go, but boo, that was a fun event) so expect some of that. Mikkeller, btw, is probably not going to be open for OPening Day.
  2. I'll give Gonzalez some time in real games with real value. And if he bombs, hopefully Smith is ready to go.
  3. Centerfield wrote: Wait. So if he's removed the broken bone, why is he still out 2-6 weeks? Tape that shit up and get right back in there. Ronnie Lott would never stand for this. i mean, he's gonna start throwing in 5 days so..
  4. Is this the same one that exempts minor league players from labor law?
  5. I think they just remove the broken off fragment.
  6. A Boy Named Seo wrote: I feel like his RBI single was decidedly "good", but the error was inarguably "not good". Well his single was a hard hit ball, but it wasn't a fly ball. The stretches where Bruce has been good, as someone that's especially benefited from a juiced ball, are when he elevates the ball. I mean, it doesn't matter. It's practice. Hopefully he can still get some good power in 2018. But he'll never be a good fielder.
  7. sharpie wrote: Remember that lead? Gone - error by Bruce and a homer by Beckham offa Gsellman. That's because Bruce is not good.
  8. I buy his plate discipline adjustments. This guy's gonna have a great Mets season. .240/.360/.430 114 wRC+ 33 HR. 15 BB%, 21 K%. 4.2 fWAR 9 HBP, 3SB, 2 walk-off hits, one a homer, the other in the playoffs. Real good defense. 8/18 with 4 HR, 2 doubles, and 11 RBI in the Subway Series.
  9. 40 saves. 75 IP. 9.4 K/9 3.9 BB/9. 3.2 ERA. 3 blown saves, 1 of which becomes a loss.
  10. I think a fresh start is going to be good for him. His pitches still had velocity and movement, he just needs to be able to command them better, reliably. I think starting the season off with a new plan, trusting his body so to speak, and a new set of coaches helps. a lot. 3.32 ERA (though there are two pretty bad games that account for the brunt of the mess) 28 games 9.13 K/9, 2.2 BB/9 4.6 fWAR. Longest outing, 8.1 IP. Pitches the division clincher. Bryce Harper goes 1-13 against him, the 1 a soft flair the opposite way. Pitches game 5 of the World Series. gets the win.
  11. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Thanks, gents. Just to be clear, I have no pending actions (cut lists or otherwise) prior to the draft? correct.
  12. metsmarathon wrote: yay, no playoffs! (more specifically, yay no format change for playoffs! i'm not necessarily opposed to playoffs in general.) i spoke with the new owner of the deathship. he expects to have his cutlist done by sunday. hope that's enough time. sorry for helping to keep him very very busy at work. welcome backabordick seo! Sunday's fine. I probably should've set a hard date. I personally don't care because I do zero draft prep.
  13. A Boy Named Seo wrote: It looks like playoffs will be considered for 2019, but not this season. Batter categories: R, HR, OBP, SLG Pitcher categories: ERA, WHIP, HR/9, K Just curious, did I miss the decision on playoffs? looks like ceeter was still considering, last message I saw. no playoffs. we'll debate in a month or so for 2019. I swapped you in as the owner of the team. have at it.
  14. but will you be able to tell them how many times the ball spins?
  15. Edgy MD wrote: Looks like the Mets' first game of the spring playing under National League rules. Matz has 2 PA Montero, Rhame, and Sewald each have a 'G' under the batting tab so i think Yesterday they must have been hitting.
  16. metsmarathon wrote: Ceetar wrote: a few people seem adamantly against playoffs because of a slightly different format for determining the winner. No one's vehemently come out in favor of playoffs so that sounds rather like the basis for making a decision, doesn't it? I'm still wavering between that and the "fuck it all, you're wrong and it's not a big deal. it's my league. deal with it." side. But I'll decide by the end of the day.
  17. your team is your team. keepers are already set. you keep everyone. It'll suck to miss the draft though. At the very least you should see if you can find someone that just wants to draft for you, at least just for a few guys to round out the roster. otherwise you'll have a week to play with the waiver wire and add guys. You're coming in with a real solid team though.
  18. A Boy Named Seo wrote: I got an email from mm's homie. He said he'd be dropping and would ship the old Guadalajara Cornballers team back to me, if that's cool with everybody else. If so, would you guys refresh me on the format, key dates, etc.? And catch me up on the new changes? Gracias... what was your fangraphs/ottoneu id? main one is you have to be available (or find a proxy to be available) next Wednesday at 9 for the auction draft. Otherwise it's Otto roto. categories listed on the team pages, your prospective roster. https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/209/team?team=1886 the current argument is a few people seem adamantly against playoffs because of a slightly different format for determining the winner. No one's vehemently come out in favor of playoffs (though I'm sure they will the second I cave and nix the playoffs) Currently winner is crowned at the end of the season based on the roto categories. proposal would be a head to head format over the last 4 weeks of the season which uses a more counting based statistic grouping (doubles, SB, HR etc) rather than the rate based ones we use now.
  19. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: March always sucks around here. Worst. Month. Ever. disagree. still cool. Got my birthday, Opening Day (or shortly thereafter) and sometimes Easter. St. Paddy's day. irish soda bread. mmm. anyway, i should buy tickets.
  20. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Associated Press wrote: The 32-year-old Cespedes hurt his right wrist while swinging in a game on March 6. He was to play Tuesday but was scratched. "I felt something in my wrist, but I didn't care much about that,'' Cespedes said through a translator. "It started bothering me on Tuesday, but with the day off yesterday ... I thought it would be good for today.'' New York had X-rays taken and awaiting results. New York found to have a weird growth extending eastward off it's bottom and it's western corner is inflamed.
  21. batmagadanleadoff wrote: It truly is a shitshow because an ideal president would be extremely open-minded and willing to listen to a vast number of experts and advisers whose opinions cover the entire ideological spectrum. Who has Trump's ear? Stephen Miller? Sean Hannity? literally whoever's talking. in that sense, he would in fact listen to say Jose Altuve. The problem is as soon as anyone else talks to him the last thing is out the window. It's why he'll occasionally say things like "oh, 21 and up for guns is okay" until his handlers get a hole of him and recondition him. But like, if you whispered "this is a bad bill, we should do it this other way and this needs to be vetoed" in his ear as he picked up his pen, he'd veto it. He's got no intelligence, whatever the last thing he heard that sounded smart is what he things is best. It's why he's such an easy mark. Might as well just ask Putin what he thinks about policy decisions.
  22. metsmarathon wrote: so i just PM'd seo; a spot may be opening up. the playoffs thing is a factor in the decision-making - not the only consideration, but it pushed him over the edge. i _really_ think you should reconsider the playoffs... In theory I would, but I'm not comfortable, nor have the time to shake everyone down, in the lack of response I'll get if I request/demand a response/vote. the turnout/conversation on the initial thing three weeks ago was sparse as it was.
  23. A Boy Named Seo wrote: If everyone else falls though and you need an extra dude, I can play. I was terrible a few years ago at keeping up with the daily lineup changes, but work has me in front of a desk 5 days/week, so I'd be more reliable nowadays. LMK, fellas. Personally I'd rather someone from here, but did Marathon already promise the team?
  24. There are other places to chime in than here and I only heard from one person that was against it. I'll need some convincing that anyone would've done arbitration or keepers differently because of a slightly different format for September. I don't see what anyone's up in arms about. We'll still have a regular season 'champion' and the official but still just for fun with no additional accolades 'winner' will be determined by a little different arrangement of stats rather than who got lucky and drafted/kept the breakout guys in April and accumulated stats. It seems like such a minute difference to get up in arms about, and there were plenty of complaints about the current system anyway and the disinterest late in the season, etc. Anyone else want to weigh in?
  25. metsmarathon wrote: Ceetar wrote: We may need another player, anyone in? there's a guy i work with who would very likely be interested. what do i need to tell him? Okay. see if he actually wants to play and we'll get him in. We'll give him a short grace period to cut whoever he wants from the roster to get ready for the draft.
