Only one person chimed in. The overwhelming support was for playoffs.

The Mets drubbed Bronson Arroyo. Piazza Homered. Bobby Jones went 8. Rich Rodriguez finished the 12-2 victory. I'm like 99% sure that was the date (so hard to verify this stuff from so long ago!) but I also vaguely remember watching that drubbing of Arroyo and almost certainly didn't watch the game actively, even if it was on the television at the resturant who's name I can't remember on the corner of Scranton and Union in Lynbrook that became a Charlie Browns and is now a hibachi. The SW corner of that intersection was home for many years to the Union Avenue Cafe, where our family got together the night of Opening Day 1987, not because we were stoked over the raising of the World Series flag earlier that afternoon, but because it was my parents' 36th wedding anniversary. It was the first place I remember encountering where pages from the sports sections were posted over the urinals, which, since the articles were all about the Mets preparing to open their season, I thought was the greatest of ideas. As good a celebration of a previous year's world championship as anything else IMO. 13 years later I'm pretty sure it wasn't still that. But my brain won't recall it, dammit. It was probably a somewhat boring American place, given my palate and the likelihood that I chose it. 'Great American grill" or something. grr. Maybe watching highlights of the Mets pounding Arroyo will help.

  4. I'd show up in one of those Obama HOPE shirts. The only words I'd speak to Trump would be "Do you work here? I'm looking for President Obama"

The hostile fans would have been equally hostile and the reasonable fans would still have been saying "show me the roster on opening day" - I SERIOUSLY doubt that Alderson feels any pressure to time transactions in such a way so as to appease fans unhappy with spending. those were unrelated thoughts anyway. no one knew if/when Walker would be available at this price at this time. And it's highly likely that he's only available at this price BECAUSE the Mets took Frazier. If the Mets were still looking for an infielder, Walker and/or Frazier would have more bargaining power. Instead Alderson waited until a guy he thought was worthwhile was available at a price he felt appropriate. Cashman's price/value mark took a few more weeks to turn up, and it might never have.

  8. 3.26 ERA. 30 games. 201.1 IP. 2 cy young points. CG shutout in game 4 of the NLDS.
  9. 124 G. April 25th debut. .275/.375/.525 5.1 fWAR NLCS MVP.
  10. Travis does poorly in the new statcast pop metrics. We're talking mere fractions of a second of course, but he's slower than most. But we knew that, it's his framing we like. d'Arnaud wasn't a liability last year, but that's about the best you can say about it. 91 wRC+ ain't great. I think with a new staff and what not, maybe he gets a few more walks and drives a few more balls, but I'm not predicting him breaking out or anything. 105 games, 7 BB%, 16 K%, .255/.310/.455 for about 1.5 fWAR
  11. internet tells me Elgin went defunct in '68?
  12. Centerfield wrote: That’s a lot more than I thought he’d get. Philly likely overpaid, but our path to any Wild Card just got harder. well, it's not September so we're still talking division anyway. So this was probably neutral in that regard.
  13. in a reply to his original tweet he says Correct. My info was just that the main reliever who was going to be traded to acquire Kipnis was Sewald. (Believe there was another piece involved as well) which is as vague as can be. Was it a prospect and a reliever? A reliever and a throw-in? a reliever and a front office coffeemaker?

But it's still 5 and 10. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/standings/exhibition.jsp?ymd=20180311 It's the worst record in all of baseball. No baseball team has a worse record. no one has a better record either. it's a 30-way tie. crazy.
  15. also that Seward was merely 'part' of the deal.
  16. Zvon wrote: So we saw "The Good Matz" today. Dats'a nice. Fammy and Robles concern me, but I won't worry until I see a little more from them. What do we got? Around 3 weeks? I'd like to see more hits and more small ball along with the homers. Mets social set is calling for Robles's head. I just feel bad for him. not worried about FAmilia cause I know he's good. Robles has never really been good. 20 days. I think there's a big number up somewhere and a stray dot..
  17. This is fascinating to me. 1. It's work time, so many people aren't watching the tv anyway. 2. You need a cable account to stream SNY. These are legitimately free games. These are more free than games on say CW11, which you can't stream at all. 3. I'll miss Gary Keith and Ron obviously, but I'd typically listen to these games on the radio anyway. I probably still will, streaming tv seems a little less kosher in an office setting. cut that cord.

Unless you think Frazier's growth in terms of BB% is a fluke, I'd take Frazier's defense and OBP over Moustakas' extra power every single time. I don't know, man, it might be a fluke, .302 and .309 in 2016 and '15 respectively. Given Moustakas is younger and cheaper, if we knew everything we know today, I'd prob take Moose. I mean, maybe? I get that argument, but I tend to believe in it. It happened when he left the Reds, so I think that lends credence to the 'learned something' idea. And don't sleep on that defense. That's good defense! Also, I mean, if the Mets were involved suddenly there are two teams interested in Moustakas and while maybe it doesn't create a bidding war necessarily, it might raise the cost to get him.
  20. Nymr83 wrote: 3 against one is hardly fair. I could take any random group of 3 pitchers with past success and say the same - but you arwnt going to find out WHICH of the 3 is going to be better until long after you have made roster decisions. Arrieta is individually better than any of them. I would sign him tomorrow and send down Matz if he has options. Cut Harvey if Matz is out of options. That's not true, the Mets have more information on each of the three every start, and if one was going to be dominant you could instantly plug him in and prioritize him. Roster decisions aren't final, the Mets aren't going to lose any of those three players. You could take any random group of 3 pitchers, but the Mets have one already. hell, they have two sets. Arrieta's not enough of a sure thing to gamble it on. Hell, the Mets will have more roster flexibility once the season starts and moves along to DL and what not. That will be another thing to pay attention to in about a week or two, as teams like the Mets DFA guys like Montero, DL guys that aren't going to open the season with, and create roster spaces. It'll be interesting. Arrieta, provided he's building up arm strength in FA camp, could step right in and suddenly be pitching for anyone. I feel like Montero is destined to give up bombs in Yankee Stadium for the Yankees come June though.

  22. Centerfield wrote: Montero sucks. Matz sucks. Harvey will never be an ace again. Go get Jake Arrieta. There's a non-zero chance that one of Matz, Harvey or Wheeler will be better than Arrieta. In fact, if I had to wager on whether Arrieta or one of those three would have a better 2018 I'd probably take those three. I mean, I favored Darvish. The Cubs did too.

I figure give LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr a chance to at least claim he wants to play this season first, but if not, the usual $10 spiel.
