  1. The Rockies can not score runs. Take advantage of Coors and smash 'em up. This is a bad team/offense.
  2. hey guys, that's because the draft is over. That's the unofficial start of trading season. The Mets are not good right now. They'd be dumb not to listen to fucking anything.
  3. Centerfield wrote: So, it's time to put Cabrera on the DL. I love that he has the heart to try to grind this out, but he's got a .339 OPS in June and moves around like he's been shot. Get bettter. Come back when you're ready to rip. one more rehab game for Flores probably?
  4. Those would work. So would other less predicable things. Like ,we need Familia back less if another reliever suddenly becomes awesome (this happens all the time) Lugo can go back to the bullpen if Vargas continues to give us QS type outings, as long as the other hitting stuff happens. I wouldn't shed Plawecki yet. Mesorco gave us a few weeks and now seems to suck again. Plawecki at least gets on base. let him do that, and hopefully these other guys will drive him in. At least it's not outs. (wRC+ of 96 since he came back. .343 OBP) He should be the primary here. That's why the Conforto homer was promising. At least he's an OBP guy though, so if he's meh but like, Cespedes comes back or Bruce heals enough to get it over the fence or Smith starts mashing, it'll contribute runs. But yeah, we need probably two more guys that aren't hitting to hit. Reyes is useless. At least he's not playing. He's only made 4 outs in 11 games this month. But yeah, give one of those other guys a shot, maybe they can actually help. Dammit just score some damn runs.
  5. Might as well extend it out to the break. 29 games. the last 4 against the Nationals. go 17-8. Not an unreasonable result. Who knows what thee Nats will do. they're 5-5 last 10. Maybe they go 16-11. That's a good stretch. Mets would make up 2 games. They'd be 7 back. Sweep the Nats and you're 3 back into the break. Win the series 3-1 and you're 5 back. That's extremely reasonable with 8 games left against them and roughly half a season. And that's a 91 win pace for the Nats, and I don't think they're that good or have the depth to do that. They drop a few more than that and they're ripe. Of course, assuming the Braves aren't really a 40-18 type team. I don't think they are. but things change. anyway, the Mets need to wake up and start winning more games than they lose. That's step 1. soon.
  6. it's early enough that it doens't have tobe 11-1. I mean, like a 15-5 would do just fine. But it's gotta happen pretty soon or it'll have to be like 18-3. and much longer and it'll have to be like 22--3
  7. Centerfield wrote: The team’s approach to the draft is weirdly recursive and predictable for something that has not worked very well, but it probably reflects organizational malaise and lassitude more than it does a meddling owner. Still, a half decade of near-identical failures, especially in early rounds, have kept the team from building the young depth necessary for sustained success. I don't really understand the criticism here. Is it that the Mets are predictable? As far as I can tell I don't see any pattern in their draft picks. I just think they haven't picked all that well. ahh, prospect projections. I dunno. They haven't really drafted well but I'm not sure they're that bad that isn't explained by luck/randomness? Like, did Valley Fever derail Ike Davis? Was Michael Conforto's capsule tear last year something they screwed up? Looking at the Alderson drafts, 2010 and 2011 seem pretty fair, or good. 2012 has been the real bomb, though there's hope in Plawecki and Cecchini I guess. 2013 was Smith. He's just really getting here now. Could still end up being a good pick. 2014 was Conforto. good pick, too early for a bunch of the others I guess. I dunno, criticizing the Mets drafting strategies seems an awfully lot like revisionist history.

  9. Edgy MD wrote: I'm trying to see progress. Two weeks ago, it was, "Hey, the starting pitching has really stabilized, and the bullpen is, you know, less bleedy." Last night, it was, "Look, they scored in multiple innings for the first time in living memory, and any good game for Rosario needs to be celebrated, because it could be a corner turned." In two or three weeks, they might be ready to win a game or two. Rosario and Conforto home runs are good signs! Gotta figure they string some of this stuff together soon. Tired of the Seaverversary notes every year. As played out as the Bonilla and Seinfeld bits.
  10. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I think the Mets are suspicious that Cespy is "goldbricking" and/or feel he's been less than dilligent in his obligation to them to stay healthy. They always look bad on stuff like this. I have no idea what type of pregame stretching/running/etc routine he does. It does feel like he's dealt with a lot of these nagging strains in his legs.. I don't know that we'll never know these types of things though nor with certainty whether Cespedes or the Mets decided he should try to play through it. In truth, it's probably inbetween, like most things. I doubt Cespedes was badgered into playing when he thought he couldn't, nor do i think the Mets were hard-line "Doc says it's minor, you WILL play!" Though I'm sure you could get a 'person familiar with the thinking' to assert either of those. Mets make plenty of mistakes, but the 'not healing as fast as we projected/hoped/were told' is one that I don't get the criticism for. Bodies are different, healing is different. stuff happens.
  11. metirish wrote: There is and has been so much going on with the Mets it is hard to keep up, but , is this true-ish? The single biggest reason that the Mets are bad is that their best players haven’t played well or played enough, although again this misfortune is owed to familiar causes. There’s Yoenis Cespedes being forced to play through an obvious injury until it got worse, and then his rehab being mishandled until he hurt himself again; I've seen no indication that playing made his injury worse, and he produced during that time. I also so no indication/proof/doctor's note that says that playing prevented it from healing. I mean, logic suggests he either couldn't have continued playing through the pain, or that it wouldn't heal until it was fully rested, but as he didn't immediately heal and come back, I'm not really sure that the right answer wasn't that he should've kept playing through it.

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I'm tellin ya, a book about this called BAD STUFF BOUT THE METS would sell a billion copies Would it? to the general fanbase or beyond? i imagine there's a lot of droll financial and 'wink wink' financial that might be an intriguing look behind the curtain if you're a very in depth Mets fan but would put you to sleep otherwise. They seem like such boring people. I don't even think you'd get like some weird juicy Jeff side hobby where he's like into photoshops of three-boobed women riding camels or something.
  13. and because they have continued to use their bench as a sort of hospice for aging veterans Lol, is that in there? In previous years they've been criticized for having minor leaguers on the bench, and now they're criticized for having veterans? I mean, it's hard to find the kinda good guy that's not good enough to play regularly for anyone but somehow specifically good for you in a part time role. Unless you're talking like a good defensive sub that won't kill you like a Juan Lagares or a lefty masher that can fake it around the infield like Wilmer Flores, but the Mets don't have those guys because they're too cheap to give them what it'd cost to keep them here. It's that sorta hypocritical nonsense that key me in to this being just some more drum-beating narrative drivel. Whatever truth to how/where/what the team is mismanaging is lost in the noise.
  14. I have zero trust in either of those sites, and don't care about the Wilpons, so no thanks.
  15. batmagadanleadoff wrote: If only Cespedes could go on another Babe Ruth spree. And we still had the Daniel Murphy of the second half of 2015. And Matt Harvey and Steven Matz pitching like all stars. And Familia pitching like the best reliever in all of baseball. Then we could win more games than we're likely to win. Or like, Amed Rosario and Dominic Smith adjust to the majors and start mashing, and Conforto gets comfortable? yeah. That could happen too. Or they could trade for Machado. Or Cespedes could come back and yes, hit for a wRC+ of like 140. And it could be perfectly timed so they win like 13/13 games against the Nationals. Or any of the dozens of arms they've cycled in could get locked in in the bullpen. happens regularly.
  16. smg58 wrote: Maybe that's what it will take to hit rock bottom. 2015 Mets were 31-28 after Heston's no hitter. 59-44 the rest of the way. 2015 Mets were 89-72 after Scherzer's no-hitter. went 1-0 the rest of the way.
  17. I'm worried they might not sweep this west coast trip.
  18. Which approach is the one that gets Conforto, Rosario, and Smith to hit like they were projected or shown to be able to? And could we take it now instead of next year?

Alderson is under contract through next year and it seems unlikely they'd make a change. A half-empty ballpark for 3 months might force their hand. unlikely to get significantly emptier nor is that likely to force their hand.

  22. sure.
  23. Edgy MD wrote: Maybe they did, but didn't offer any compensation up to the Mesoraco level. Or maybe they did offer talent that was just as good or better, but the Mets were hesitant, thinking that if Harvey found his way back to his north star, they didn't want him doing it cross-town. I'm sure they'd've overpaid for top shelf Matt Harvey. Anyhow, the Mets needed a catcher and got one. well sure, but this is the Yankees thread and I wanted to throw out a little ribbing. It'd be really fun to see them go on a 20-40 slide where they lose a bunch of games 9-6.

  25. Nymr83 wrote: I agree with CF, but for a very narrow reason: Every owner should have a public duty to fans to try and win because they have been granted an antitrust exemption and exclusive territory. If Wilpon doesn't have to try and win then the A's should be allowed to move to Brooklyn and compete wiyh him for fans. I mean, I'm against the exemption but I don't think the Wilpons would really have any real threat. Things are so established. I think this might level things out for all two/three/four teams though. The highs wouldn't be quite as high as some residual fans would cling to the other teams, and the lows wouldn't be as low because you'd have the built in rivalries and proximity bonuses coupled with the additional 'home' games for the other teams.
