  1. I use mlb.tv all the time on the iPad and the AppleTV, rarely being in work if there's a game on. I've no blackouts, cause well, I don't live in any 'franchise area' There service is excellent, pretty much as good as a TV feed 95% of the time, and now that my house broadband is being bumped to 200mb down I'd say I'm more dependent on the net weather on the MLB side of the pipe then on mine, and there's is *very good*
  2. how many of those deals would you claim on waivers? Longoria, Pedroia, Tulo (ish), D Wright, Monlina, Carlos Gonzalez, Philips ?, McCutchen, Holliday, Bautista, Cabrera, Beltre, Justin Upton. Would probably be where I'd be at.
  3. Not sure where I'd have stood if the mets had signed him at that rate. I won't like him being on the Phillies though, because despite being a *insert expletive used about Alex Rodriguez* Cheat he was a likeable one. Before last year he did have some decent years in the past, but he's been all over the charts from season to season.

Note that Wilpon is put in a defensive mode here about not signing an unproven Cuban defector for a position at which they are well-stocked and have much more pressing needs. But the Mets don't sign them, the team is derided as failures and you get those "Player X rejected the Mets because they are a crappy organization." What you don't get are the stories later, when it becomes clear that the team made the right move. Remember the frenzy last year over Michael Bourn? Who was the pitcher who we were allegedly chasing hard who ended up signing with Angels had a shitty season? We don't see those "Mets made right call" stories. Are you thinking of Tommy Hanson? Latest case of the Braves dealing high on pitching that. I'm thinking he's referencing the great Joel Pineiro pursuit of Winter 2009. Or was it Joe Blanton last year? was anyone actually saying that'd be a good idea?
  5. it's a hard one to figure. It's easy to see him being OK, but is that really worth $10 million per season? There's a also probably bit of devil in the detail in the contract For example, Puig's contract contains this "may opt in to arbitration once he earns 3 years of Major League service time" so he's guaranteed a minimum of 42 million, but he could end up getting quite a bit more then that. I'm predicting Mark Trumbo as a comp
  6. If I can listen to games in BallyGoBackwards on a phone so can ye lot. Jaysus. You're giving out about AM RADIO? Am I back in 1997?
  7. absolutely. I just meant that even in the games he's had, it's probably hard to see the lateral movement that's necessary for 2nd while he's playing at 3rd. Suppose if we start "doing the shift" we'll get a better sense of it.
  8. he nearly beat out an infield hit the other night, and I thought did so at a relatively spritely clip. It didn't look like one where I thought "how is he not there" Lateral movement is something you probably don't get to see an enormous amount of quickly at third, because, so many of the plays are so quick.

All appeared in previous seasons, and by my reckoning, all debuted before Rottino. Lutz did, too. I think I thought Downtown Andrew Brown got an inning or 9.
  10. I suppose I was looking at definite contending clubs that needed "a closer" who had OF's near to ML level that could be well above average. He was first one to jump out.
  11. I think if you could turn Bobby Parnell into a young potentially high impact outfielder you should do it. I don't think you'd get a Nick Castellanos but if Detroit were offering him I'd definitely strongly consider it.
  12. In a delightful twist I was able to watch this doing the morning feed rather then sloping off to bed after 3/4 innings of the night one. I could do this west coast trip 16 inning games every time no problem. It'd be handy for me to be honest.
  13. any word on projected start time?
  14. what's the story with the rain delay? about to do late night feed and trying to time it to get a couple of innings!
  15. Yes, the Twins would trade their well paid, but still there or thereabouts the best in his position, homegrown, catcher. FOR an average (or below) soon to be Free Agent starter, a soon to be Free Agent oft injured middle reliever and a "unknown to you so can't be that fucking good" prospect or two. Does anyone actually read these things before they go live? http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/yankees/post/_/id/58545/first-pitch-why-not-mauer But there's another possibility: What about Joe Mauer? Yes, the Twins owe him another $115 million between now and 2018, but he only turned 30 in April, and by the time the contract runs out, he would be 35, hardly too old to split time among catcher, designated hitter and first base. Even though he doesn't have a lot of power, Yankee Stadium is a lot kinder to left-handed hitters than Target Field, and Mauer has been a reliable .320 hitter for his entire 10-year career. The question is, do the Yankees have what it takes to pry him loose from the franchise that wanted to make him its face? They could offer Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain and a prospect or two, although the fact that both Hughes and Chamberlain will be free agents could be an impediment. There's also Ivan Nova or David Phelps, or maybe even a situational reliever such as a Shawn Kelley or a Preston Claiborne.
  16. by the way, with last night's torrid 2-4 (1b, HR) Young Anthony has moved past bucky in the OPS stakes.
  17. Have we not had a 1b debutante this season?

It's a sticky situation though, because I bet Terry uses Parnell in a normal situation, and while you're supposed to manage for the game you're playing and all, tomorrow IS going to be rough with two games and a rookie starter (potential or not, rookie starter). Of course, Parnell does not give up home runs. They were Dillon Gee's career splits. If you were to look at this year alone, you'd be correct in saying that it's a small sample, but you'd also have to say they're actually horrendous over 76 pitches 1.096 OPS against left handed hitters .912 OPS against. Seriously allowing him to face Freeman was a really bad call. I'm not second guessing here, I had a hunch about the numbers and looked them up, they screamed out at me. If you're Terry Collins you should have that figured out

Notice the particular "two guys doing ok, but separated by 5/4 lineup spots so that it doesn't have any impact " That seems to have been our speciality.
  21. I picked 31-40 I reckon he's finished with the mets, he'll get another shot next year at a big league club to start after spring, but that'll be his last time on an opening 25 man.
  22. by the way, without looking at anything I'm going in that pop quiz of yours with ... MIAMI MARLINS
  23. right, about to do night feed. Chat again @ inning 23/24 ?
  24. I stopped and restarted to catch up and missed the double. Lagares has just popped up.
  25. Ah, I only just saw that, the MLBTV delay is quite long on the Irish ipad tonight.
