  2. But it could be better. After all, when the Mets are in town he's too busy washing uniforms and shit. But when the Mets are on the road he hangs out with his gambling buddies Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera.

  4. Sparky is definitely in my earliest baseball memories. He was manager of the winning team in the first World Series I ever watched in 1984. Didn't know about his Reds career until much later in my life. RIP, Sparky.
  5. I thought Straw played until 2000 or thereabouts.
  6. I used to make a team of Free Agent Ex-Mets (The Faems) every year. Thanks Vic for saving me the effort. Not that I would've done it this year.

  15. Fuck! I fell asleep on the couch and missed this.
  16. 5. Santana 4. Dickey 3. Pelfrey 2. Niese 1. Gee
  17. The shot of Tim Lincecum in a bowtie/nerd suit is the most awesome thing I've seen today.
  18. Looks like we may be getting the pitching duel we were denied in game 1. Ought-ought after two.
  19. Yep, the Major Leagues picked best players out of the Negro Leagues right up into the 1960s. I like to imagine what would have happened if instead expanding in the 1960s if MLB instead invited 2-4 of the best Negro League teams to join the majors. Definitely far too progressive for those times but probably would have been a lot more fair (especially to the black owners, administrators, & scouts of the Negro League teams).
  20. Nice job, attgig. Backpack Girl gives you special powers.
  21. I searched in vain for a photo of Elvis Presley in a baseball uniform.
  22. Groundouts with runners on base: Castillo Francoeur
  23. 1. Davis 2. Niese 3. Takahashi 4. Thole 5. Carter
