  1. I was disappointed to open this thread and see it had nothing to do with rum-based cocktails. Then I was chagrined to be reminded that I was the one responsible for this thread getting that name. I suck.
  2. One of my favorite movies of all time. There were times in my life when I could recite all the dialog. There was a demon that lived in the air....
  3. Backpack Girl actually is on FaceBook, although she doesn't have much to say. According to this article she is the little sister of Dustin Steller of Steller Photography who has many pictures of her on his Flickr page. The photo was taken in Kansas City not on a college campus (and certainly not at Harvard like I thought). Also, she's happily married.
  4. If can play at a ski resort in the 1960's, it is no stretch for Poison to play at a ski resort in the 1980's.
  5. I have a rule of thumb of avoiding movies with Alan Cumming in the cast as his main dramatic skill is making funny faces. Exception to the rule is Sweet Land, which is a pretty, simple movie in which he plays a supporting role.
  6. Edgy DC wrote: Classic work from Jazz Radio DJ in that thread. Perhaps one of these contestants will call in to discuss their strategy for the ...... semi....finals. But first some more classic jazz on WARM-FM, supported by members like you. From 1957, here's "Bouncing with my Baby at the Savoy" by the John Lewis Trio. Bob Etheridge on piano ... Bill Thomas, alto saxophone ... Vic Snyder on mandolin ... Gene Green on xylophone ... John Olver plays the triangle. Michal McNulty just sat on a chair in the studio and didn't do much (careful listeners can hear him fart approximately 15 seconds into the track) .... Vernon Ehlers jangled his keys ... Mac Thornberry delivered a pizza to the studio ... Ike Skelton provided the weed to the band members. I think I had Jazz Radio DJ name all the band members after members of Congress. Also, their last names are an acrostic.
  7. Well of course there's a pro-Yankee bias. The sports media and baseball people in general have been fawning over their every move for decades. Oh wait, he mean anti-Yankee bias. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA That was a good one.
  8. I was born to New Yorkers living in exile. I'm New Yorker by ancestry.
  9. This tells me that the Mets need a manager whose last name starts with a B. Backman it is!
  10. metirish wrote: Is that eye black under your nose? great pic btw My mother always says that when I don't shave for a day it looks like I have newsprint on my face. My favorite thing about this picture is that it looks like Bobby is really excited to meet me but I'm not so sure.
  11. seawolf17 wrote: I don't know. I went to a game with him last year, and he already seemed like a fully formed adult. I don't know that redevelopment is the answer. I could stand to lose a few pounds. And I need a haircut.
  12. I'm still holding out for my personal friend Bobby Valentine.
  13. This Willets Point is against the use of eminent domain for commercial purposes. If someone wants to develop that area -- and I'm sure it is a good idea on paper to do so -- then buy the property fair & square. By the way, those drawings make the future of Flushing look awfully Caucasian.
  14. soupcan wrote: Isn't that interesting - Gooden & Seaver are only one day apart. Never realized that before. Yeah, it's Gooden's birthday, then Seaver's birthday, and then my birthday. I'm the outlier.
  15. Missed this thread before. Looks like the Perth Heat will log a lot of miles getting to their road games this season.
  16. metsmarathon wrote: i also don't know why you'd go through the trouble of the exercise and not put al kaline in the alkaline earth metals, and cal ripken right there at good ol' atomic number 26. presuming, of course, that you leave gehrig over in the noble gases. Damn, you know your chemistry. The table comes from this link and the creator has been notified about the Al Kaline/alkaline gaffe.
  17. HahnSolo wrote: Very nice. Two questions: 1. The asterisks...what are they for? 2. Is there something that made Jim Palmer "highly temperamental"? He always struck me as pretty bland. 1. The two rows at the bottom starting with Tris Speaker and Lou Boudreau should be plugged into the empty boxes with the asterisks in them, but are split out to prevent the entire table being too wide. 2. Palmer looks like he's at the stable end of table to me but I may be reading it wrong.
  18. Ok, no one cared for this post. So I'm making this an "all-purpose random baseball history that doesn't fit anywhere else" thread. Here's the Periodic Table of Hall of Famers:
  19. Edgy DC wrote: I thought Bruce Berenyi was your hobgoblin. We all had 'em. The card that made you say, "Yay, I have a Met! ... and he's the same sucky sucky Met I got last pack." Damn you have a good memory. You're right. I think I got more Berenyis than Oquendos.
  20. Jose Oquendo of course. Or at least the people at Topps who slipped one of his cards into every waxpack I ever bought thought so.
  21. Albert Spalding on The Psychology of Baseball.
  22. Yep, they'll do it. And then they will hoist trophy #28. You heard it here first.
  23. Ceetar wrote: hard not to love the picture though. What is the Mets' Little Secret?
  24. Wow, color footage of the Polo Grounds. If I had a time machine, a game at the Polo Grounds would be my first stop.
  25. The source of the "Michael Lewis is hired" comment is TheSportsHernia who tweets TheSportsHernia Sports Hernia Ha. Definitely a joke. RT @SI_JonHeyman @Chris_Ahlers im pretty sure thats a joke. but u better check with sports hernia Too bad. The Mets could use a good writer.
