  1. And SC=9745 means your so sarcastic that you even make a joke out of the 100 point scale.
  2. He he. Ya better watch out, you're approaching McReynolds level yourself.
  3. (Grote to the Max was one of the best usernames for one of the posters at the old Metsonline) Here's another player whose Mets career predated my following the team since he was traded away in the summer of 1977 (did the Mets just get rid of their core players wholesale that year or what?). I like that he represents in Mets history in Excellence in Catching. He's the first of the great Mets catchers followed by Stearns, Carter, Hundley and Piazza (even a backup cather Pratt got to be the hero in 1999). UMDB users rate him as a topnotch defensive catcher who didn't hit much, so I suppose if we could combine him with Piazza we'd have the ultimate catcher. He's also on Myspace, so check it out: http://www.myspace.com/jerrygrote
  4. Yet another novel with a librarian as a protagonist, and a pretty darn good one too. Lots of sex and mystery, just like my life.
  5. I was surfing the web a couple of weeks back and found an article like this one that caused me a moment of panic: Jose Reyes may have broken leg.
  6. One more post ought to do it.
  7. I'm tired of being McReynolds.
  8. Brooks Robinson looks like he's crawling across the desert in search of water.

I'd think you'd "catch" him at the by-line "Bushy McBushleague" My eyes wandered over the byline while I was reading the third paragraph thinking "Waaaaaaaaaaait a minute!"

  12. Last night an art theatre in Cambridge showed King Kong (1933) and a second-run cinema in Somerville showed King Kong (2005) so I made it a two city, two theater, two Kong double feature. Very interesting to see where Peter Jackson mimics (or should I say apes) the original and where they difer. I like how the new Kong is the first one that really looks and moves like an gorilla, running swiftly instead of lumbering along, and knuckle-dragging Naomi Watts into a state of dizziness. Neither version makes any explanation about how they got Kong from the South Pacific to New York on that tiny ship, especially since he seems able to break restraints with ease.
  13. BRAAAAAAIIINNNNNNSSSS!!!

Don't know nothin' 'bout his ride, though. Can anyone run a quick calculation? Later I would think the turtleneck/blazer combo would adversely affect the Boss's WHOMP scores.
  15. Note to self: This one goes in the Featured Archives.
  16. 'Cuz if A-Rod played for the Mets we'd all love him. Most of us would still take him now (holding our nose, but appreciating the bat).
  17. The Crane Pool Forum asks the important questions like What Really Happened to Kevin Mitchell's Girlfriend's Cat? and How much mockery can one wrestling fan take? Also, we're 45 days into the new year and thusno inactive threads from 2005 remain unarchived.
  18. Mike F-in Scioscia!!!
  19. Turn the Mets around from being World Series Champions? I guess in a sense he did the job since they never played in the World Series again while he was on the team.
  20. Vic Sage is going to hate me for the next 50 posts. So why don't I have any memories of McReynolds. He wasn't that bad and I wasn't among those who disliked him. Mind you, I wasn't a big fan either and I liked Mitchell better. The thing about McReynolds is that he was just there. He did have a great 1988 though and helped the Mets to the NLCS (which they lost, still one of my most painful Mets memories because they should won it all dammit!).
  21. ="Centerfield"]Without taking sides, I just wanted to point out that KC is a really, really big guy. May I suggest a new strategy? Let the wookie win... And to be clear, I'm not calling KC a wookie. Because KC is a really, really big guy. How did the characters from Mutts get into Star Wars? PS - Wookie Wilson, I love it! PPS - I wasn't singling KC out, but he maybe he already knows that. I can never tell when he's jokey pissed and really pissed.
  22. Dominican Republic is so going to school the USA. When the WBC starts we should have IGT's to get us warmed up for the regular season (and keep this thread from growing into a monster).
