  1. I'm watching the wrong game.
  2. Controversial call by ump robs Mexico of a home run off the foul pole. On the other hand, in order to avoid elimination Mexico needs to keep the game scoreless for 13 innings so oddly this benefits them.
  3. You know something, this could be Roger Clemens last ever start. 0-0 in the 2nd.
  4. Deadline today. Extended because it looks like there are a whole lot of live prospects unbumped. I'll archive them next Thursday.
  5. This one still looks like a keeper.
  6. What were the odds on the currently undefeated Korea?
  7. Goal differential seems to work well in World Cup soccer, I don't see why run differential wouldn't work for the WBC.
  8. I'm actually glad I stayed up for the end of this. Game ended with Mexico 90 feet away from tying it up.
  9. Mexico turns a sweet DP. Willets Point heads for bed.
  10. This Jae Seo guy is pitching well. Maybe the Mets can get him from the Dodgers to help with their pitching woes...oh wait.
  11. Eh, such is life. And the Dominican Republic can win the next two games and advance and Puerto Rico could lose two and go (stay) home.
  12. The Life You Save May Be Your Own: An American Pilgrimage by Paul Elie.I've read the first chapter and I'm already impressed. This a quadruple biography of Dorothy Day, Thomas Merton, Flannery O'Connor, and Walker Percy. Their common thread is that they were all American Catholics of the mid-20th century who found their religious experience best through writing. I've read a little bit by each of these authors but never new they were friends who corresponded and read each others work and were nicknamed "The School of the Holy Ghost". Quite fascinating so far.
  13. Announcers expect this to be a low-scoring pitcher's duel "where anything can happen." No mention of the fierce rivalry between these two teams.
  14. Puerto Rico 7-1 is the final. Metirish is right on the nose about how irritating it is when the announcers go on about the rivalry. Wish he had not brought my attention to it.
  15. Looking at the rosters, Puerto Rico is the most Metly team in the WBC. So those of you who can't root for the USA because of Yankees-Clemens-Larry cooties might want to adopt Puerto Rico as your team.
  16. Bad base running too. Moises Alou out trying to stretch a single into a double.
  17. Puerto Rico up 7-1 now. I'd say this is an upset. That is I'd expect if one team were to pound the other I'd wager on the Dominicans, but a close game would be more expected.
  18. You have to admit that the fans are really into this. It's pretty awesome to see.
  19. Which rivalry - PR vs. DR? I have the game on my computer but I'm also trying to balance my checkbook so I'm not really paying attention to the announcers.
  20. That Day-O that's so annoying at Yankee Stadium actually seems to make sense with two Carribean national teams involved. Puerto Rico up 4-1 in the top of the 7th.
  21. Bret Sabermetric wrote: Hey, keep it clean. We have 20 year old kids reading this site. Lighten up, old man.
  22. Both teams advance anyway. And will play again in Round 2. I wonder why the WBC isn't set up so that each of the pools in the second round has only one team from each of the pools in the first round so there would be no rematches?
