  1. i'm ok with this. Now go sign Bedard.
  2. isn't "douche" a French word? and don't we have a Canadian connection, what with Omar the former GM of Les Expos? And didn't Omar, as Expos GM, trade Grady Sizemore, etal, for Livan Hernandez? oh, wait...never mind.
  3. stupid move by ChiSox, letting Thome go to the team against whom they will be competing for a division title. Despite his accelerated decrepitude, Thome was probably the best hitter on Sox last year. And is there any word on Bedard?
  4. What's the deal on Bedard? He clearly has the best upside of any arm out there, including Sheets, yet i haven't heard a peep about him. He only pitched 1/2 seasons the last 2 years, but his peripherals are top-notch. Is he still hurt? Did he have surgery? Or are teams just scared of taking a chance on him?

  6. netflix works pretty well for me. with a family of 4, we maintain 4 lists and so everybody always has a movie, or one on the way. Living in the suburbs, there are no video stores in walking distance, and the nearest blockbuster is about a 10min drive. But we use it for those rare moments when there is nothing in the house anybody wants to see, but we want to see SOMETHING. But Usually, in those situations, we just go out to the movie theater and see something NEW. Also, with netflix you can watch stuff online. I just plug my laptop into my bigscreen and I've watched many a tv show or shlock movie that way. Yesterday, my son and I watched a whole lot of SOUTH PARK, just cuz mommy was out and not there to object.

  8. Make no mistake: This is a deal of a seventh reliever for a fifth outfielder. Thats nothing. This means very little in the grand scheme of things. But its frustrating and a little frightening because it shows, once again, how the Mets seem to judge talent in a way that departs so severely from the stats they should now have at their disposal, then overpay to acquire that talent. http://www.tedquarters.net/2010/01/22/the-issue-here/
  9. i have no idea what team you were watching, but Tatis played ok last year, and played better than that the year before. If Murphy is still the plan at 1b, Tatis would be a solid platoon partner, as well as a solid backup at the other corner IF/Of slots.
  10. also, Arthur Miller ...and my 2 older brothers, too. By the time it was my turn for HS, however, we had been redistricted for Lafayette HS, which was a dangerous place to be. So i went to Dewey. But its as good a reason as any for me to root for Figgy... go Figgy! go Railsplitters!
  11. what were the results of our Mets HOF CPF poll? Who were the top 4 candidates?

  14. From Amazin Avenue: By Craig Calcaterra -- Deep Thought: For what the Mets are going to likely pay Bengie Molina, they could have signed Adam LaRoche and any of the multiple $3 million-and-cheaper catchers who have signed this winter and who aren't appreciably worse than Molina, including but not limited to Gregg Zaun, Miguel Olivo, John Buck, and Ivan Rodriguez. And even if you think Molina is the best of the bunch, isn't Molina + Daniel Murphy at first base < any of these guys + Adam LaRoche at first base?
  15. i feel ya, my brother.
  16. it's funny because it's true, kinda.
  17. WGA nominations for best screenplay in 2009 (awards given on 2/20): original screenplay: 1) Avatar 2) 500 days of summer 3) The Hangover 4) The Hurt Locker 5) A Serious Man adapted screenplay: 1) Crazy Heart 2) Julie & Julia 3) Precious 4) Star Trek 5) Up in the Air
  18. The Mets competitive advantage is (or at least should be) their unmatched revenue streams (at least in the NL). The notion that this move won't be made because of $$ is infuriating.
  19. I'd offer him 2/yrs $18m.
  20. i'd do that deal in a heartbeat.
  21. Laroche is 30, relatively healthy, and generally produces a .275/25hr/90rbi line, with a decent OPS. Let Murphy play a full season of 2b at AAA. I have no desire to see Delgado make a comeback from a serious injury, at an advanced age, on the Mets dime.
  22. i voted yes, but not to affect HRs. Having sat the season in the upper LF corner, i think moving in (and shortening) the fences would radically help the terribly obstructed views, which the team knowingly sacrificed for "intimacy". and speaking of intimacy, i'd like Jeffy and the architects to become intimate with each other, repeatedly, with no lubrication.
