  1. All we're talking about in this thread is revisionist history, about which move would we want to undo. Certainly, the Bay/Middlebrook deal, in retrospect, was a bone-headed trade of youth for age in desperate and failed attempt to stay in the race, during the Steve Phillips `02 implosion.
  2. i have vague memories of the Mets in 70-71, but my most vivid early memory is seeing Matlack during his RoY season in 72, with Yogi Bear (as i called him) managing. I remember a game where Matlack took a line drive right off the coconut, and he went down on the mound as if shot, with the concussion reverberating thru the stadium with a sickening "thunk". I may be conflating that game with an earlier one. I also remember a game at Shea with my cub scout troop, and getting separated from them on the train platform. A cop took me to the security office, where my dad came and got me. It may have been before 72, though.
  3. oh, sure, ya got yer obvious boners: - Mora / Bordick - Bay / Middlebrook - Kazmir / Zambrano - Bell & Ring / Adkins & BJohnson, AND - Lindstrom / J.Vargas and a couple of bad signings, like Cedeno, Appier, Castillo, and Ollie P (and eventually F-Rod) and a couple of under-the-radar slip ups, like - Nelson Cruz / J.Velandia - waiving Scutaro - Wheeler / Seuss - losing J.Flores (rule 5) But lets not forget the impact of some of our 1st round drafts, including: - 04: Humber over either Jared Weaver, Jeff Niemann, Billy Butler, Phil Hughes - 07: Ed Kunz over Jordan Zimmerman But of all the moves, the one i'd want the Mulligan on is the `00 draft, where we took Billy Traber over Adam Wainwright. Just think if we not only had a pitcher of Wainwright's caliber in our organization (instead of a guy with hardly any major league career), but imagine if he was NOT on the mound that fateful day in St. Louis, when Beltran watched that curveball break over the middle of the plate for strike 3. PLUS, Traber was part of the package we sent to Cleveland for Roberto Alomar, who was a disgrace in the Orange & Blue. Yeah, all things considered, that move had the worst overall long-term and short-term consequences, and even affected our post-season run when we were favored to go all the way.

  5. Very good. The kid reminds me of Michael Sera. The girl is hot. Woody is hilarious.

Edgy DC wrote: The problem I find with action sequels is that they amp up the action beyond the level of coherence, replacing the story elements of the initial installment with adrenaline, empty calories, and multiple villians teaming up for extra marquee power. bingo. Its ok, but no more. I usually like Don Cheadle, but he can't pull this off. Scarlett is not much in the "assistant" scenes, but she wears black leather like nobody since diana rigg. And the action scene with Black Widow toward the end is worth the price of admission all by itself.

  9. there is a "Thor" tag at the end of IRON MAN 2.

MetIrish wrote: New Rochelle seems like a nice town, we go to Costco there, what a mess that place is...ugh....also we like to go to New Roc City which seems like a great place to hang if your a teen looking for skirt New Rochelle is really a city, a bit smaller than White Plains. So, it has the advantages and disadvantages unique to citylife. 3 of its 6 elementary schools are good, 1 of its 2 middle schools, and the HS, while big, has a lot of resources and opportunities, and doesn't seem as frought as most city schools. So, if your careful about what part of town you live in, you don't need to go a private school route. The downtown area is kind of gross, and New Roc area is kind of dangerous at nite on weekends. But there are some beautiful suburban sections that are as luxurious as any well-healed town. But what i like is the heterogeneity of the community, rather than the false quality of suburban life. My kids need to grow up with all kinds of folks, not just ones that look and think like them. That's why we chose NewRoc over some of the hudson river towns we were looking at. Its also about 30m on the train to GCS, which was another main factor.
  11. i'm in New Rochelle, which is 1 town over from Larchmont. It takes 20m to get to CitiField from here. Your not going to get a nicer area much closer than that on LI. I remember some Mets used to live in Port Washington, which is a similarly monied town on the north shore, but its not really any closer.
  12. what were the picks we gave up by trading Wagner, instead of offering arb? I mean, now that we know the Mets have absolutely no interest in the player they got for Wagner (Chris "we'd rather play Jacobs" Carter), what did they give up to save a few of Freddie's coupons?
  13. moderately engaging sports movie. I liked Bullock, loved "big mike". Hollywoodian, sure, but it works ok. i'm reading the book now and loving it. Lewis is a terrific writer; glad to see MONEYBALL wasn't a fluke.
  14. Jerry should skip Maine every 5th day...

  16. soupy, why do you inflict him on yourself? I stopped listening years ago.
  17. Wright = 1.00 Castillo = 1.00 Bay = 1.00 Cora = 0.50 Francoeur = 0.50 Tatis = 0.50 Barajas = 0.25 Matthews = 0.25 Feliciano = 0.50 Nieve = 0.50 Rodriguez = 0.50
  18. .270 ba (.320 ob / .450 slg) 20hr / 90rbi These are near his career averages. I don't see why, as he comes into his peak years at age 26, he'd necessarily regress, after showing some ability to hit in CitiField last year and hitting in an rbi slot this year.

  20. surprisingly moving despite being formulaic. Of course, he created the formula.
  21. Santana = 3.50 Wright = 1.25 Bay = 1.00 Barajas = 1.00 Nieve = 1.00 Matthews = 0.75 Rodriguez = 0.50 Francoeur = 0.50 Pagan = 0.50
  22. i had to autodraft the last 7 rounds and got totally screwed over by that freakin machine. MIKE JACOBS! JEFF WEAVER! for feck's sake! Lunchpail, i wish i shared your confidence in my draft.
  23. also, whats this about a $1000 waiver budget? How does that work?
  24. i'm going to have to check out before 9pm, so i hope it goes quickly. But i have a question: if i have to go to auto=draft at some point, will it know to only pick NLers? Or will i be completely screwed?
  25. Wait , you want him starting even if he's only three quarters of himself? He'd lose a lot of blood that way...
