  1. The TiTTS say: "Boo!"
  2. Who is the first baseball name you think of for each word? (Doesn't have to be Mets related.) hustle - pet rose inside - don drysdale square - steve garvey macho - kirk Gibson lumber - Willie Stargell mustache - Rollie Fingers
  3. overpriced Met veterans that are playing just well enough that contending teams might ship us a prospect for some of them: - Schnieder - Feliciano - Castillo - Sheffield And possibly even damaged or crappy goods like: - Cora - Redding - Hernandez - Wagner - Putz, if we thru in a bag of balls. I still don't think we need to break up the core (Reyes, Wrights, Beltran, Santana, F-Rod), but i can't take any more of this 09 team. I hat baseball...
  4. But don't youse get it... Cora is a leader! He makes me nostalgic for miguel cairo.
  5. of course the writer makes no comment on the irony. And then there is this quote, which also goes unremarked upon: ]"Of course there's some risk here," Amaro said. "But we'd rather risk it on someone of his caliber and who knows how to win." Yes, he knows how to win... by throwing a 94-MPH fastball he no longer has with pinpoint control he no longer has. I know how to win, too. I just can't do it. And neither can Pedro, at this point.
  6. never in baseball. but i find it rather easy to root against the Jets and Knicks, as they play out yet another meaningless season, on the off chance they can get lucky in the draft.
  7. you guys haven't read the script... they'll win 44, and miss the post-season by 1 game. Otherwise, we'll have been insufficently tortured.
  8. So you'd back out of this WATP Youklis deal if they insisted on Cora? Good to know...
  9. I dislike hackers with low OB% and lower BB IQs. This is a lateral move (at best) with Omar net letting stupid facts getting in the way of his "scout" sensibility that loves "tools" despite demonstrated lack of production. However, the big ole hard-headed French donkey is younger and, if he works hard and becomes coachable, he has the potential to one day be... ... older.
  10. what caused his career to end so abruptly... an injury, or suckitude?
  11. Coobs, I finally got rid of J.Damon, who i hated to have on my team, despite his productivity. So i understand your pain.
  12. Natalie Portman joins Marvel's 'Thor' Chris Hemsworth stars as Norse god of thunder By Borys Kit July 13, 2009 Natalie Portman has been cast as the female lead in "Thor," Marvel Studios' adaptation of its comic book featuring the Norse god of thunder. Kenneth Branagh is directing. Portman will play Jane Foster, who in early comic book lore was a nurse who became Thor's first love. The studio said the character will be updated for the feature adaptation, with Foster being a doctor-scientist type. Chris Hemsworth is already cast as Thor. Tom Hiddleston is Loki, the god of mischief who serves as the movie's villain. "Thor" is Marvel's stab at an epic fantasy adventure, spanning from present-day Earth to the realm of Asgard. The story centers on Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. As punishment, Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans but once here, he learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth. "(Jane) is the human lead, so to speak, who helps ground the film in reality," said Marvel's Kevin Feige, who is producing. "We spend a lot of time amongst the other realms of the Nine Worlds of the Thor mythology and our human anchor to that." He added: "We wanted to avoid that syndrome of just because the hair is up and they're wearing glasses it means they're smart. ... We wanted somebody that can have the chemistry that the best of our Marvel couples have had, whether it's Tobey (Maguire) and Kirsten (Dunst) or Tony (Stark) and Pepper (Potts)." Principal photography for the film is set for early 2010. The film will be released in the U.S. on May 20, 2011, distributed by Paramount Pictures. Portman, repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment, is about to start shooting in Northern Ireland the Universal comedy "Your Highness," directed by David Gordon Green, and shoots David Aronofsky's supernatural thriller "Black Swan" in New York this fall. Her comic book and fantasy movie resume includes the recent "Star Wars" trilogy and "V for Vendetta."
  13. its easy to get there after work. It's a 35 minute ride on the 7 train, or less on the LIRR. The problem is driving during rush hour, but that would be the problem even if you drove to the east side from the west side.
  14. Here's the cheer when they actually win a game: "SHaM-WOW!"
  15. Edgy DC wrote: I think they should entertain the idea of Churchie as number-two hitter. ="John Cougar Lunchbucket"]Maybe not vs. a lefty like Kershaw. why, you think he'd be less successful at getting on base than Alex Cora? I don't.
  16. what would it take to get Halladay? BJays are said to be shopping him.

  18. As long as its ok to trade entertainers, could we trade the Michael Jackson memorial for the celebration of a pedophile to be named later?
  19. Beltran [A/inc]: having a great year till hurt. Santana [A-]: cooled off in June after amazing April-May, but still best we have, and one of the best there is. Deserves better. Wright [A-] His HR production is down (and, therefore, RBI), but everything else is fine. F.Rodriguez [A-]: Absolutely dominating, till last few weeks Delgado [b+/inc]: up and down, but productive overall until injury; he could be done. Sheffield [b+]: Production from unlikely source is great surprise Feliciano [b+]: Does the job L.Hernandez [b ]: Better than i thought he'd be Nieve [b-]: Came storming out of gate, but has come back to earth. Castillo [b-]: decent OB%, but no more SBs or defensive range, and never had any power. Stokes [b-]: usually effective, in low-leverage innings S.Green [b-]: terrible stretch, but effective ever since Parnell [b-]: great early, crashed lately, perhaps due to overuse. J.Reed [C+]: doing ok job in his limited role Church [C+]: injury, plus initial lack of production; swinging well now. Pelfrey [C+]: consistently inconsistent Pagan [C/inc]: shows flashes, then hits the DL. like always. J.Reyes [C/inc]: Wasn't doing much before injury. Who knows when he is returning? Maine [C/inc]: Inconsistent till hurt; who knows if he's coming back? Santos [C]: good start fooled people into thinking he can hit. He can't. Schneider [C]: we already knew Brian couldn't hit. Cora [C]: utility player of some neglible value Evans [C/inc]: showing flashes Murphy [C-]: showing none of the qualities as a hitter we saw last year. Flash in the pan. Plus his defensive lapses in LF were startling. He seems much more adept at 1b, though. Putz [D/inc]: pitched hurt, then DL. Tatis [D]: more evidence for not re-signing old guys off of career years F. Martinez [D] - short sample, but i've seen enough for now. Redding [F]: Tell me again why we signed this guy? O.Perez [F]: So bad, he got demoted. It helped Trachsel, but will it help Ollie? ------------------ J. Manuel [C-]: He's a head scratcher Minaya [D]: He sucks BHMC

  21. there was a hilarious episode of ENTOURAGE about Furry sex.
  22. ]As the great William Blake wrote: The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom. Crash Davis: "William Blake?" Annie Savoy: "Yes, William Blake!" ---------------------------- (narration) "Walt Whitman once said, "I see great things in baseball. It's our game, the American game. It will repair our losses and be a blessing to us." You could look it up." Yeah, but he didn't sit thru the Mets-yanks series.
  23. I took Vic jr to the Saturday night game, yet he is still willing to go to more games this season. amazing. the indomitability of the 8-year old spirit. They should figure out how to bottle it.
  24. I'll be there tonight, with Vic jr. We'll try to avoid our crappy seats in LF upper deck for as long as possible. We'll try and stake out seats in the CF bleachers, near the concessions. He's looking forward to seeing Pujols, who is carrying my son's fantasy team to a 35 point lead.
