  1. That would be Alfredo Aceves! If you told a Yankee fan in April that crucial September innings would be the property of Alfredo Aceves, he'd kick you in the nuts and tell you that you're just jealous because of TWENTY-SIX CHAMPIONSHIPS, BABY.
  2. It's funny how many of them really look like their dads.

  5. I'd love Rochester, but I know they're pretty happy with the Twins. (Don't know how reciprocal the feeling is.) Compared with Syracuse and Buffalo, though, it's heaven. Rochester's something of a Yankees town, FWIW. Always kinda drove me nuts. Not to say the Mets couldn't win them over. The team logo is buffalogically correct, however.
  6. No, Utica is the armpit of New York. Buffalo's pretty bad, though. I voted Syracuse selfishly also -- a lot easier for us when we're up visiting family.
  7. Yep... they mentioned that on the broadcast the other night. I think it was also discussed a bit in the IGT. There's no question Reyes and Wright have the opportunity to completely rewrite the Mets history books in short order.
  8. soupcan wrote: Reyes singles then matches Mookie's career Met record of stolen bases with his 281st. "I'm trying to score more runs, guys! A little help here!"
  9. soupcan wrote: Church does the opposite of a grand slam and hits into a dp. He just doesn't like leaving runners on base.
  10. Paul LoDuca missed the extra point and it's 14-13, Braves over Fish, in the bottom of the sixth. Julian Tavarez, the Braves' sixth pitcher, in to face Hanley Ramirez with the bases loaded and one out.
  11. Hey! It's Carlos and Carlos on a bad green-screen Puerto Rico commercial during America's Got Talent!

He continued by hitting a double down the line in left. Checking Baseball Reference, this stat is nowhere near correct...not sure where they got it from Oh well, for that one instance yesterday it was. I can't figure that he would have been batting 1.000 in any of his splits. But damn, some of his splits are incredible. I know it's a small sample size, but according to his b-r splits page... (all numbers are OPS) With nobody on base, his OPS is .850. With runners on, it's 1.062. With RISP, it's 1.145. Close and late: 1.238 OPS. Game Tied? 6-for-10, 1.392 OPS. Best when the game is close: Within 1 R 1.107 Within 2 R 1.044 Within 3 R .943 Within 4 R .925 Margin > 4 R 1.017 "High Leverage" situations? 1.286, as opposed to less than .900 in other spots. (I'm too lazy to do the math) Innings 1-3 .769 Innings 4-6 .970 Innings 7-9 1.029 Against Starters: around .700 (again, lazy math) Against Relievers: 1.353 Dang.

  14. I think the Mets should start an all-Vargas and Reyes lineup some time this month.
  15. And Roy Halladay beats the Yankees for the fourth time this year in the Jays' 6-2 win. The Yanks' two runs? Home runs from Slappy and Roids. Ain't nobody more clutch. They're now 7.5 out of the wild card, with Toronto (9.5) chomping on their asses and Minnesota (3.5) in the middle. Magic number is 20.
  16. Gary & Keith, not "Simpsons" fans, apparently.
  17. Way to get out of it, Pelf. Suck it, Cody Ross.
  18. metsguyinmichigan wrote: Just getting here. Big Pelf might lead this team in wins by the end of the season. And if you told me that in April, I'd have thought that would have meant the rest of the rotation was in a tragic accident. Great step forward for him! Much like Delgado leading in home runs.
  19. Let's go up there hacking so we can get through five, fellas. Enough taking pitches. David Wright... "Linkin Park and Frank Sinatra"? Odd.
  20. See, you can "shift" all you want, but if you don't know how to field ground balls, then it's not going to matter, suckas.
  21. Jeebus, Castillo limps like a 70-year-old grandma.
  22. Muniz and Kunz will be back, because it doesn't hurt to bring them up. They're already "on the clock" since they've been up this year, so you might as well add them in.
  23. Loved that whole Ross sequence. Loved it. Pelfrey is becoming a man this season.
  24. [yankeefan] You know, this fuckin' guy never, ever gets a hit in a clutch spot. Every single one of his 100 RBI this season? In 12-1 blowouts. They should just cut him. [/yankeefan]
  25. It was fun to write "Cap'n Intangibles" and "Slappy" into my scorebook Tuesday night. Quick, boring game. Wake up, Mets.
