  1. Hey, you want somebody to make an out in a big spot, you call David Wright.
  2. Edgy DC wrote: I watched a lot of Wally Backman's Met career and I never saw him slug a guy at second. Okay, technicality. Ray Knight would have come over from third and slugged him.
  3. Hey, if Keith Hernandez is allowed to stop paying attention and be goofy during blowouts, so are we.
  4. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: ="metirish"]="Edgy DC"]That red-hat thing --- who needs to get fired for that? Selig I actually read somewhere that Fred Wilpon of all people was behind this effort. Okay, we'll fire Fred, then.
  5. Wally Backman, at second base, would have fucking decked Utley as soon as he slid in safely. Just reached back and decked him. Ah, the good old days.
  6. Swan Swan H wrote: I blame the hats. They're playing like a red hat ladies luncheon. They look like the Phillies. I. DON'T. LIKE. IT. [ashie]Pat Misch, by the way, your 2009 NL Cy Young Award winner.[/ashie]
  7. Hey, even if they lose this game -- and there's still a lot of baseball, even with Chase Fucking Utley stealing bases with a seven-run fucking lead -- if they win the next two, they leave Philly tied. That's not so bad.
  8. Did Chase Utley just steal second base in the fourth inning with a 7-0 lead? Livan, throw a pickoff off his fucking helmet.
  9. Good by me. I'll send a regular card to Gosger, and a '69 card to DiLauro. (Going like gangbusters toward 400 Mets autographed cards.)
  10. Wondering if either or both were on the postseason roster in 1969. Working on the autograph collection, and don't want to send the wrong thing (a card featuring a '69 celebration image) if they weren't technically involved. Gosger was acquired in September, so I'd think he wasn't involved, but I don't know about DiLauro.
  11. That Conan clip is one of my favorite baseball clips. Classic.
  12. Diamondbacks pitcher Clay Zavada, my new favorite non-Met LOOGY.
  13. So last night we had Braun celebrating early, taking his helmet off before reaching home. As I'm coming home just now, Wayne's replaying the audio from the defensive play of the game, a Braun flyout to Fartinez, which apparently ended with Braun slamming his helmet in disgust. Hey Ryan... WTF? You have helmet problems, or are you just a d-bag professional athlete?
  14. Pelfrey 5 Green 2 Castillo 1 Church 1 Schneider 0.5 Rodriguez 0.5
  15. So I'm watching this thing on ESPN Game Cast, and the first thing to change after the pitch becomes blue (signaling that it's "in play" is the "PREDICTED WINNER" box in the top right corner, before the outcome of the play is displayed. So the third pitch turns blue there, and I immediately look to the top right corner... to see it change from NYM 70% to NYM 82%. I sigh in relief as the little on-screen baseball bounces easily to third and turns into an X.

  17. I can see the back page of the post tomorrow! METS SCORE RUN Give up four in eighth anyway, lose 4-1
  18. I still like Murphy; I think he could still be special. He just seems overmatched right now, thrust into a crucial role when his bat and glove might not be entirely ready. That's okay; he'll get better. Evans will be dealt soon enough.
  19. metirish wrote: ="LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr"]9 strikeouts in 5 innings. (If you're grading on the curve, though, that only counts as 4 major-league strikeouts.) For Pelf? No, the Brewers are fielding a major league team today; Pelf has four K's.
  20. That's why I'm calling it the Bressoud Overpass.
  21. ="John Cougar Lunchbucket":2a5e8ogm]Brother of Randy "Wolfpack" Wolf. I see what my homies can do.[/quote:2a5e8ogm] I think we need to see if we can get Steve, Matt, and Dan Wright umpiring jobs. Fman99 Jul 01 2009 10:19 AM Re: Jim Wolf Great caption contest photo. "I know they itch, Jimmy. I got em too, must be from those damn Canadian trannie dancers. Don't they look like chicks? OK, maybe from far away they do." LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jul 01 2009 12:09 PM As per a couple of Hardball Times ump studies from 2005 and 2007, he's among the league's most generous umpires to pitchers. Also, he can see the future! ]WOLF:Hes done-- PINELLA: Why? WOLF: Because he threw at him. PINELLA: How do you know he threw at him? WOLF: I know he did. PINELLA: How do you know he did? WOLF: Because I was waiting for it. I knew it was going to happen. http://bad-officiating.com/cubs-ted-lilly-ejected-by-jim-wolf
  22. I want a Rated Rookie shirt, but I ain't spending $32 on a t-shirt.
  23. Thanks, Swan. I must be conflating him with Phillips.
  24. I know the Mets picked him up mid-season last year, and I thought I remembered them calling him up at one point, but he obviously didn't get any playing time.
  25. ...was a sorta-Met, right? Was called up at one point, but never played?
