  2. And now Ramon Martinez is out with an injury of some kind. It's about time someone got hurt on this team.
  3. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Oh, for fuck's sake-- Tampa Bay lets Sonnanstine swing away, Jerry. You can't let the best athlete on the team take a cut? Yeah, but they like to bat him third sometimes, just for shits and giggles, when Joe Maddon's drunk.
  4. That would have been a Gold Glove play there. Holy moley, there is like NOBODY in the park tonight.
  5. Damn, that's a great recovery by David and a nice scoop by Tatis.
  6. If you're a baseball fan, you should buy this album. May 26, 1959 in Milwaukee on the mound. Harvey Haddix of the Pirates was mowing em down. 27 up, 27 gone. Nine innings in the book and not a man had gotten on. Now, in history only 17 have thrown a perfect game. A most exclusive club and a most exalted fame. But after nine the Pirates hadnt scored. A perfect game and still old Harvey had to pitch some more. David Wells, David Cone, Sandy Koufax, Cy Young, Jim Bunning, Tom Browning, Charlie Robertson. Don Larsen in the series in 1956. Why dont we add old Harvey to that list? 10th inning down, 11th inning down, he moved on to the 12th. Three straight outs and the fans were pinching themselves. The best game ever pitched and still a scoreless tie! Poor Harvey had to carry on and give it one more try. Thirteens never lucky so you can guess the rest. Harv gave up a hit and then he lost the whole contest. I wonder how he slept that night knowing how close he came to a most exclusive club that should include his name. David Wells, David Cone, Randy Johnson, Addie Joss, Kenny Rogers, Mike Witt, Dennis Martinez. Don Larsen in the series in 1956. Why dont we add old Harvey to that list? The search for perfection is a funny thing, at least as Ive been told. It drives you nuts, it makes you curse and eats away at your soul. Sometimes better isnt better, sometimes justice just aint served. Sometimes legend isnt laid where its most deserved. But humanity is flawed as the losers will attest. Were drawn to tragic stories, the ones that suit us best. But for 12 innings on that fateful day, old Harvey was a God. A perfect game if nothing else because perfections always flawed. David Wells, David Cone, Lee Richmond, Monte Ward. Len Barker against the Jays and Catfish for the As. Don Larsen in the series in 1956. Why dont we add old Harvey to that list? David Wells, David Cone, Sandy Koufax, Cy Young, Jim Bunning, Tom Browning, Charlie Robertson. Don Larsen in the series in 1956. Why dont we add old Harvey to that list?
  7. Nuts. I wanted Paul Konerko.
  8. Loved that movie!
  9. Will report to AAA Buffalo, Schneider activated.
  10. Forget ROY. Omir Santos is your MVP.
  11. Eh, I guess not. This team needs a good bench-clearer. Maybe the bottom of the 11th inning is a bad time, though.
  12. FIGHT! FIGHT! Charge, Fernando!
  13. "Paying way too much attention to Sheffield." Even Ron and Gary get it wrong sometimes.
  14. Gary Sheffield, making things happen.
  15. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Oh, and THIS is why I hate the Manuel era-- the let's-manage-to-the-matchups crap, when they're down to, like 2 pitchers. Yeah, but they have Sean Green, who hasn't given up a run since batting practice, and Ken Takahashi to pitch to an empty stadium after Green gives up the winning runs.
  16. Oh, I'm tired of looking at him too, but he's allegedly a good clubhouse guy, and if someone else thinks Santos is a long-term solution, then I'd say we sell high.
  17. Hey, fellas? You can't hit that slider, and it's not a strike. Stop swinging at it. Thx.
  18. I'm no lover of Castro, but I think Santos might bring a little more in return right now.
  19. Love that Parnell.
  20. By the way, you'll note that this Adam West character who's pitching for the Marlins falls nicely in line with the whole Curse of Jason Jennings that has haunted the Mets in recent years.
