  1. They can have Francisco if they want.
  2. Bonilla pinch-hit in the ninth inning of Game 162 in 1999; the place went bonkers. We were all POSITIVE that Bobby Bo, struggling through an awful season in his big return, would have his hero moment and send us to the postseason. He popped up; I've never booed so loud. That said, this was a good deal for both sides at the time that only looks awful for the Mets in retrospect.
  3. And here I am again, courtesy of Shannon Shark at Mets Police: http://metspolice.com/2012/04/30/the-awesomeness-that-was-the-mets-hofstra-conference/
  4. Hey, there I am.
  5. I'm trying to repost the photo from JCL, but now I can't seem to get it; the page comes up blank. http://via.me/-w36id0?ref=nf
  6. I only caught the end -- from lunch yesterday through my panel -- but what I saw was 75% "anecdotal," 25% "academic." But that was just a small percentage of the overall package. My only issue was the cost, really. I feel like this could have, should have been so much bigger, and maybe could have been if it was free, or maybe just a couple of bucks. That said, I was THRILLED to have been included, happy to see that Greg actually exists outside of the interwebs, and happy to put a face with a username for batmags. Saw Ceetar on the lunch panel, but forgot to say hello afterwards. JCL stopped into my session, which was fun, and posted a photo of me presenting, which was cool. I wish I had been able to make more of it; everybody was really, really nice and we had some great discussions in that short amount of time.
  7. Only coming in for Saturday; hoping to get there around lunchtime. Speaking on Panel X-C at 3:15!
  8. Anyone going today? Still trying to scrounge up a season-ticket stub featuring Kevin McReynolds.
  9. 1981: Terry Blocker (1), John Christensen (2), Mark Carreon (8), Lenny Dykstra (13), Randy Milligan (Jan), Herm Winningham (Jan Sec), with a failed Roger Clemens in the 12th. 1982: Dwight Gooden (1), Roger McDowell (3), Barry Lyons (15), Doug Henry (16), Wes Gardner (22, then traded for Ojeda), Randy Myers (June Sec) and a few others; also notable for Floyd Youmans (2, traded for Gary Carter), Tracy Jones (4, didn't sign), Gerald Young (5, traded for Ray Knight), Greg Olson (7, left via FA before making majors), Rafael Palmeiro (8, didn't sign) A lot of that 1986 team came out of the 1982 draft! 1983: Stan Jefferson (1), Calvin Schiraldi (1), Dave Magadan (2), Rick Aguilera (3), Dave West (4), Marcus Lawton (6), Jeff Innis (13), Jeff McKnight (Jan Sec), plus Matt Williams (27, didn't sign) 1984: Shawn Abner (1), Rich Rodriguez (9), Goose Gozzo (13, traded for Cone), Kevin Elster (Jan), plus John Wetteland (12, didn't sign). 1985: Gregg Jefferies (1) and a bunch of nothing, plus Scott Servais (2, didn't sign) 1986: Fritz Polka (2), Curtis Pride (10), plsu Cal Eldred, John Olerud, Scott Erickson, and Todd Jones, none of whom signed. (Seriously? We only won the World Series that year, kids. Certainly wouldn't want to be part of that organization, right? Dumbasses.) (And no, I don't know who Fritz Polka is, but I wish he made the majors.) edit: Added January and Secondary draft folks. Also interesting that they drafted pitcher Jerry Nielsen THREE times: # January 3, 1985: Drafted by the New York Mets in the 12th round of the 1985 amateur draft (January), but did not sign. # June 3, 1985: Drafted by the New York Mets in the 1st round (16th pick) of the 1985 amateur draft (June Secondary), but did not sign. # January 14, 1986: Drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 1st round (26th pick) of the 1986 amateur draft (January Secondary), but did not sign. # June 2, 1986: Drafted by the New York Mets in the 8th round of the 1986 amateur draft (June Secondary), but did not sign. # June 2, 1987: Drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 11th round of the 1987 amateur draft, but did not sign. # June 1, 1988: Drafted by the New York Yankees in the 18th round of the 1988 amateur draft. Nielsen pitched about thirty innings for the Yankees and Angels and was out of baseball. Maybe you shoulda started younger, eh, pal?
  10. Ooh, that's next week. Gotta get cracking on that. Tweeted.
  11. Mets Willets Point wrote: I've always liked the nickname Cap'n Intangibles when referring to the over-hyped one. I exclusively refer to him as such. No way he beats Seaver's percentage; I bet there's just enough pushback from the younger folks to keep him in the high 80s/low 90s at best.
  12. I'll take it postgame if need be; don't need to be there, really mostly need it for the McReynolds collection.
  13. I need to know what date the McReynolds ticket is so I can obtain one.
  14. Pretty slim for a while there: 1970: Bruce Boisclair (20th round) 1971: Rich Puig (1), Rick Baldwin (9) 1972: Craig Swan (3) Then it picks up: 1973: Lee Mazzilli (1), Jackson Todd (2) And then not: 1974: Dwight Bernard (2), John Pacella (4), Bob Myrick (14) 1975: Nobody, unless you count Charlie Lea (15) and John Tudor (21), neither of whom signed
  15. The second-best college outfielder IN THE COUNTRY is right out here on Long Island, Mets. MAKE IT HAPPEN. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2012-draft-top-10-college-outfielders/19817/ http://www.goseawolves.org/sports/m-basebl/mtt/jankowski_travis00.html
  16. Lefty Specialist wrote: Jose should get a nice round of applause when he first comes up. If the Mets weren't financial morons he'd probably still be here, regardless of all the ins and outs. One at-bat at the end of the season doesn't wipe out 8 years of excitement. Now, after that first at-bat, he gets booed like anyone else. This.
  17. Blargh. I'll throw it together and post it in the morning. To victory!
  18. I'm punting. I'm having a bitch of a time getting my computer back. So much for our vaunted 8-9 matchup. Let's move on.
  19. We'll be up later today. My computer is in the shop pending a nasty virus removal; it has my parody on it.
  20. The new animated sculpture is yoooooge. http://mlb.sbnation.com/2012/1/26/2737237/miami-marlins-home-run-feature-john-waters-directing-2001-a-space-odyssey
  21. Brad Lidge to the Nats for one year, $1M plus incentives. FUCK YOU WILPONS FOR RUNNING OUT OF GODDAMN MONEY.
  22. Jerry Crasnick tweets: @jcrasnick wrote: The #Mets are diligently monitoring the LH-hitting OF market: Damon, Fukudome, Ankiel, Ibanez and Pierre. Damon's an interesting fit if he's willing to take a lesser/mentoring role.
  23. Or the Houston Allens.
