Let's wait a little longer so Sandy can see in person what type of player he is. Let's wait until he starts out hot next year so we can make a half-hearted attempt to engage in talks during the middle of the season. Let's let the fans suffer and watch as them as they engage in fruitless "Re-Sign David" campaigns. Let's not move him at the deadline for players who can help us in the future so as to not effect second-half ticket sales. And then when he hits the open market and has a bazillion suitors for his services, let's talk conceptually about an offer that falls just under what others are offering so we can watch him walk away. I hate this team.

Harvey is more likely to contribute to a contending Mets team, if not in 2014 than in 2016 or 2017. (Let's hope it doesn't take that long.) Even if you can get more for Harvey, and you probably can, he's someone you'll need to replace down the road. Harvey's 2015 is more likely to be better than Dickey's 2015. This.

  4. I know I'm in the minority here, but I definitely, unquestionably find a trade for RA over the winter. There's nobody on this roster who has more value right now.

    Hi,

We get so few new people that I'm convinced most of you are spammers.

    Hi,

Here's a classic from 2004: http://thecranepoolforum.yuku.com/topic/386/I-m-Stuck-The-Scrabble-Thread?page=1#.UGNqJUJqrHM Again, before my time. And I feel like I've been here forever.

    Hi,

    CF's daughter, yes?
  9. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Strange how they sometimes include the players' first names and sometimes don't. It doesn't seem to be for space considerations: NORM CASH and AL KALINE don't have a whole lot of letters between them. For that matter, neither do Ed and Ron.
  10. By "reports," Edgy means Frankiefrank's medical reports, which he has faxed to him each morning along with notifications of every news story featuring any Met, former Met, and/or former Met's family member.

  13. Yeah, but setting an example for the children and all that.

    Hi,

Methinks the spam filter is wonky.
  16. The Wilpons can't afford that many costumes. They're waiting for the after-Halloween sales at Party City.

I find this reaction surprising less because Rick Reed was a Pirate for parts of four seasons (in which he never earned the trust of Jim Leyland) and more because Rick Reed's MLB debut came against the Mets on what they used to call national television. Pitched a helluva game on Monday Night Baseball, prompting some snide comments from Wally Backman about how we supposed to hit somebody who throws that kind of junk? Well, full disclosure. I knew he was Pirate FIRST, but that's a 2004 Topps Chrome card. I didn't know he went BACK there, but it looks like he didn't appear in MLB after 2003 with the Twins.

  20. I love this card, because in my mind, he's not signing an autograph but doing a crossword puzzle.
  21. Full marks, by the way, to Tom Koehler, Stony Brook '08, for his scoreless inning.
  22. A baseball movie with Amy Adams? They combined two of my favorite things. I'm stunned that this turned out so terribly.
  23. Shit. I have the Rabbitohs' hooker and scrum half on my fantasy team.
