  2. I read once that the teen numbers are your "ace pitcher" numbers in Japan. 18 specifically, I think, although of course we retired 18 for Darryl.

  4. I'm almost disappointed that Lino Urdaneta got another shot. He left Detroit with an ERA of infinity, which was awesome. It dropped to 63.00 when he pitched his inning for us.
  5. Most of them I remember, actually, but there's always one or two that confuse me. This time it's Jefferies. A real lackluster collection of players, overall.
  6. Awesome story, GFaf. Gotta check that out.
  7. Well, ten years from now he'll be part of a trivia question about how many Japanese players toiled for the Mets. I'm betting he'll be the last one named, and everybody will say, "Ohhhh yeah, I forgot he played for them". This is the guy you're going to forget. The rest are all more memorable: Ishii, Nomo, Komiyama, the two Takahashis, Shinjo, Matsui, Yoshii, and Igarashi.
  8. 5-8, 3.92 in 19 starts with Columbus this year. 39 BB/95 K in 103 innings.

  10. That's excellent! Nicely done.

  15. Zvon wrote: So wolf, for McReynolds you now need 86 and 87? OE: also, do you want any to be Padre borders? HOLY MOLEY those are awesome, thanks. Would love the 86 and 87 too. (And if it's easy for you to make the Padres changes for those years, especially the "rookie card" years of 83 and 84, that'd be cool.)
  16. Z! That's fantastic! Already playing with the PNG.

I've been wanting to DIY baseball cards for years, but I have no idea how to use Photoshop. I don't even own a version. I've been making "cut outs" of baseball card borders to do this stuff. Basically different year Topps cards without a picture or player name. All are for Mets cards. I'll be glad to make these available if you want to experiment in a photo or art program. IIRC even MS paint can be used for cut and pastes and even applying fonts. The time consuming part is preparing the borders for use. Once I do all that I have what could be called a baseball card kit where you just swap parts in and out. I'll share this base stuff with anyone who wants to have some fun with card making. And it is fun. Definitely interested. One of my custom card goals has always been to make custom Kevin McReynolds cards from his Padres years, from a 1983 Traded through 1987 regular issue. He didn't sign his Topps contract until 1987.

  21. Probably deserves its own thread. As per Ken Rosenthal. (Puello too, but we knew that.)
  22. Ken Rosenthal reporting that VALDESPIN is suspended for 50 games: Thought it was Puello. If he mixed them up -- considering that's already been RTed a few hundred times -- then if I'm Valdy's agent, I'm on the horn with a lawyer STAT.
  23. Oh, now Steve Phillips is a genius? Not quite.
  24. Edgy MD wrote: Maybe he'll claim that the Yankees had a sap place his name in the BioGenesis files. Sent somebody down there claiming he's buying for Alex Rodriguez, and then they tipped off authorities themselves. That would be an awesome position for him to take. That would be the greatest scandal in the history of scandal. Take down the whole organization.
