  1. Perpetual Pedro bumps up my list of all-time favorite Mets.
  2. I'ma need a set of those. I like.
  3. Okay, this one's on me. ... AND ON TOM FUCKING KOEHLER, BABY. "Big right-hander from the northeast pitching six shutout innings in Miami today for the W? Yep, that's me."
  4. I think we'll see Travis Jankowski and Nick Tropeano at some point in the next couple of years too. And the guy we just had sign a three-year deal with the Eagles.
  5. Shit. Now Koehler's in line for the W, which means I'm conflicted again.
  6. Tom Koehler's Career Batting Stats vs Mets: .400 (2-for-5) vs everyone else: .000 (0-for-17)
  7. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Single, walk, HBP loads bases with 2 out for Ike. PS -- Eff this Stony Brook guy. HEY I'M RIGHT HERE YOU KNOW
  8. "What's a Seawolf? I'm a Seawolf." Rooting for eight scoreless for Koehler, then a twelve-run ninth inning off the Marlins' bullpen.
  9. So we'll win the first three and then get no-hit on Thursday. Got it.
  10. Scott was at the last baseball card show I went to, a few years ago at a little VFW in Centereach. He was at a table in the back singing autographs and the guy on the microphone introduced him as "Yankees legend George Scott."
  11. I remember being terribly disappointed that JCL looked nothing like Professor Hodges in person.
  12. Edgy MD wrote: Darvish looks like Aurelio Lopez. Hopefully he will not be struck with the Aurelio Curse.
  13. We were in the card aisle at Target a few weeks ago, and my daughter told me to get "one of the little guys," so I caved and bought a pack for four bucks even though I think they're silly. Pulled a Joey Votto short-printed variation; sold it on eBay for $25. Win!
  14. No, that's not the Wilpons. (Well, it is, but...) Those are a Topps product.
  15. Also not a small dude: Mark Clark. And speaking of non-small dudes, I was honestly surprised to see Frank Howard there. Didn't remember him being a coach at that time.
  16. I like Murph, but strike while the iron is hot and trade him between games to the Nats for Anthony Rendon and a prospect.
  17. Connected with the different series, maybe? Card 92 would be a series 1, so maybe that whole sheet used a wider speckle. I'll have to check all my 68s and see if there's a pattern.
  18. Edgy MD wrote: Kirk Nieuwenhuis, third leftfielder of the the game. "You gotta have a lot of left fielders, or else you're gonna have a lot of triples into the corner."
  19. Checking in with the Seawolves crew. Majors: Nathan (Texas): Named to sixth All-Star team this year. Koehler (Miami): 2-5, 4.38 in 17 games (11 starts). Started 0-5, but has won his last two. Pitched seven innings of one-run ball for his last W, the other night in Colorado. Minors: Tropeano (AA Houston): Has been part of the Astros "split-start" setup in AA all season. 4-7, 4.03, 5 saves. 1.331 WHIP, 3.23 K/BB. Jankowski (A+ San Diego): .281/.354/.354 in 452 PA. Leads California League (by a lot) with 59 SB, 2nd with 74 R, 6th with 46 BB. Cantwell (A+ Texas): .258/.328/.326 in 201 PA. Splitting time behind the plate with a guy hitting .221. Campbell (A Dodgers): 1-8, 7.65 in 24 games (7 starts) across three levels. Carmona (A Philly): .306/.351/.426 in 352 PA. Got off to a horrific start, but has turned it on. Five home runs. Mostly DHing, a little 1B/3B. Tissenbaum (A San Diego): .270/.364/.350 in 401 PA. 38 BB/31 K. Rakkar (A- Chicago): 1-1, 4.70 in 23 innings out of the pen. 1.087 WHIP, 2.38 K/BB. Johnson (A- Oakland): 1-0, 1.61 in 22.1 innings, mostly out of the pen (one start). 0.985 WHIP, 1.83 K/BB. I know there's a lot of season left, but I'm encouraged by what Tom Koehler's done in Miami -- knock out one awful start against the Cardinals, and his ERA is 3.53.
  20. Buck's first RBI since April 23.
  21. Ralph in the booth, sez Twitter. Downside of having to work during day games.
  22. Thought we had a Sporcle thread, but I guess not. Got 45/55 on the "Can you name the lifetime .300 hitters with careers beginning since 1947?" quiz. http://www.sporcle.com/games/minnmich/lifetime-300-hitters-with-careers-beginning-since-1947
