  1. I'd absolutely do Lincecum on a one-year superMarcum deal.
  2. So a baseball player is a jagoff, which they all are, and we're going to hold it against him over nine seasons of awesome? Eff that. It's just a game, people. He's a fuckload better than Rubetin Turnjada ever will be. Bring him back, lead him off, pay him, and let's win a fucking championship.
  3. The post there offers up Murphy and Montero as bait. Jose's got $86 million guaranteed over four years (including the buyout for the fifth year, or it's an extra $18 million for 2018) -- if Toronto eats half of it, I'd do that. You'd get Jose -- who will "only" be 35 in 2018 -- at $10-12 million a year. And you can move Tejada to second if you really believe in him, or go out and get one somewhere else. Murphy turns 29 on or around Opening Day 2014, so it's not like he's so young himself.
  4. I'll do another full update at the end of the season, but we've got ourselves a race (HA!) for the minor league stolen base crown. Billy Hamilton (Lousville, AAA) -- 75 Travis Jankowski (Lake Elsinore, A+) -- 71 Terrance Gore (Lexington, A) -- 68
  5. I think luck is a big piece of it. (And the fact that the Mets, as a team, are terrible at baseball.) If you look at the bottom of the runs scored leaderboard: http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting/_/sort/runs/order/false/minpa/75 His batting line stands out a little bit among the non-scorers. Only Chris Coghlan has a higher BA, and nobody has a higher WAR.
  6. Benjamin Grimm wrote: He sounds like a grumpy old man, but I agree with him. Completely. The problem is that when managers/organizations try to do this, pitchers get hurt anyway, and then managers get blamed (See "Baker, Dusty"). We've gone too far and there's no "right" way to do it any more.
  7. Interesting that Sandy named him. Vic Black gets hit by a bus tomorrow and is out for a year -- what happens?
  8. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Not biologically father and son, I assume. I had to Google that. I had no idea. Bump Wills is a cardboard name for me. I picture his 1983 Topps card every time I hear his name, looking about four feet tall on a follow-through swing for some reason.
  9. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Maybe it's my increasingly-holey memory, but I don't recall Teufel making a play as nice in the field when it counted as he did just then, on that foul hot-shot. My sole memory of Tim Teufel's defense is Game 1 of the '86 Series.
  10. If "Roy Halladay" is a best case scenario, and "Adam Wainwright" is a worst-case scenario (he tries rehab but winds up needing the surgery anyway), then I'm okay with it.
  11. I heard the question and was fascinated. Would NEVER have guessed the Cruzes if you'd given me 100 guesses. Maybe would have guessed the Alomars. Bondses and Griffeys would have been my first guesses -- figured those were the easy ones.
  12. Frayed Knot wrote: Between Ruf, Orr, and Lee, the Phils look like they're hiring guys who will save them the most money on lettering. And we call up guys with apostrophes and upside-down lowercase letters. And Omar Quintanilla.
  13. Baseball cards make everything better. I love these.
  14. Great Justin Turner stat. Out of 446 qualifiers (at least 75 AB): Major League Leaders, Runs (min 75 AB) 1. Matt Carpenter STL 100 2. Miguel Cabrera DET 95 446. Justin Turner 4
  15. Edgy MD wrote: Added bonus: Adds a new branch to the Tim Bogar trade tree. Herrera --- along with d'Arnaud, Syndergaard, and Builcerra --- all have trace amounts of Bogar in their DNA. That's fantastic. Trade trees are awesome.
  16. But it's a question that we'll never know the answer to, so I see the exercise as futile. We got a good deal out of two guys who were going to give us nothing in the long run, and that's without even knowing who the PTBNL is. The only way this is a negative for Sandy is if Herrera gets hit by a bus tomorrow AND if the PBTNL gets hit by a bus the day after he gets N'ed.
  17. Signed for nothing with no expectations, then had a really solid year and got dealt for a solid prospect. I'd say that's a win-win for Sandy.
  18. Those two gifs specifically, the fact that he hit 30 home runs in April, and his helmet.
  19. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Apparently the cheapass Mets kicked in a million smackeroos to cover the rest of Buck's $$ in exchange for a tastier prospect. 5-10 teenager who can hit, I like it. The PTBNL is likely on the Pirates' 40-man roster btw WHICH MEANS IT'S ANDREW MCCUTCHEN WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
  20. Played smg in a little lunchtime Strat, 09 Mets (me) at 88 Mets (him). Santana vs Cone. Ugly early; Cone let the first three batters of the game on, but I only scored once, on a Francoeur SF. Gregg Jefferies answered with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning, and Kevin Elster drove in a run in the second. Then we scored four in the top of the third on a leadoff walk and six singles. Jefferies homered in the bottom to make it 5-3 at the end of the third. The offenses quieted down for a while. Cone struck out eleven in seven innings and left down 5-3, but then Randy Myers left the barn door open, giving up six in the top of the eighth, punctuated by a two-run HR from David Wright. I pulled Santana after five for a PH, and the bullpen of Figueroa (1.2 IP), Misch (0.1), Redding (1, with a run), and Feliciano (1) finished it out. Final score, 11-4 Oh-Niners.
  21. He signed with the Angels a few weeks ago.
  22. FUCKIN HELL
