I largely ignore most of #MetsTwitter because it's mostly trolling, it seems. I follow the writers and I follow all y'all, but not a whole lot more than that. I was thisclose to unfollowing Mets Police the other day, but there's good stuff in there sometimes.
  2. Let me state for the record that I'm openly jealous of this gig and wish I had known it was an opening that I could have applied for.

  6. ...sez Twitter.
  7. Wanted to really like him because he seemed like a nice guy on Twitter. Then he gave up a home run to every batter he faced AND then blew two playoff games in the ninth inning in Vegas. Good luck, Anaheim. /unfollowed
  8. I'll remember the Catch and the fact that he was from Whitestone. Seemed like a nice guy, but is ultimately replaceable, I guess. I wish him the best.
  9. The new Topps Update set includes a bunch of ASG-themed cards. Some of them are jarring.

  11. Interesting. I noticed the flies thing too. Hit the Hall this morning, spent way too much on souvenirs and things on Main Street. Working for a bit back at the hotel, then I'm going to swing by Ommegang for an afternoon "snack."
  12. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: See the Hall. If you have time for a meal & nice beer, hit the Ommegang Brewery about 10 miles or so away. Well, duh. I'm staying down near the Ommegang. It's only open for lunch, though, so last night I had dinner at the Council Rock Brewery, which is a tiny little place on 28, and was really impressed. No bottles, no growlers even... just by the glass. But really good. Might wind up there again tonight; we'll see where the day takes me. Have to actually get some work done at some point too.
  13. Screwed up our schedule, so instead of being in Cobleskill tomorrow, I'm in Cobleskill on Thursday, which means I'm at this Cooperstown hotel all day tomorrow. And I guess I've got a ton of work to do, but I suppose I could kill some time walking around town. Wonder if they have anything interesting here.
  14. Actual guy behind us at a Ducks game a few years ago: "Hey, that Pete Rose Jr., there? That's Pete Rose's son."
  15. "Carter" means "one who carts."

  17. I don't see any benefit, financially, to them waiting. As it sits now, we're definitely looking at '15. If he had it a month ago, then maybe there's hope for the end of next season that he'll be back for a potential pennant run. If anything, it hurts them to wait.
  18. Jose Molina, I believe, is the Patron Saint of the Framers.
  19. Ashie62 wrote: Edgy MD wrote: I just don't know what's to get excited about there. Murphy, Peralta, and Abreu seem like targets the Mets will look at closely. Cruz sure fits the profile of the team buying low on ex-PED-cons, but I agree about the translation rate of power from Texas to Queens. I bet we hear some about Wladimir Balentien too. You do know he is RIP? Wladimir Balentien just broke the Japanese single-season home run record. He most definitely not dead.
  20. I didn't see anyone question using Cruz; I think you had to use him. His career numbers against Price were excellent, and the rest of that lineup doesn't exactly scare you.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: The report above also claims that Scot Atchison doesn't have enough time on his card to qualify as a free agent, which is some darn surprising news. It's because his career predates free agency, so he was grandfathered out. He's still under the reserve clause.
  22. Let's take a look at the year that was: Majors: Nathan (Texas): 43 saves, 1.39 ERA, better career save percentage than Mariano Stupid Rivera. FUCK YOU METS YOU SHOULD HAVE SIGNED HIM. Koehler (Miami): 5-10, 4.41 on the season. 1.357 WHIP. Threw more innings than any Marlin other than Jose Fernandez. Enough success, especially in his last three starts, that he'll be in the mix for Miami in 2014; with Fernandez/Eovaldi/Alvarez/Turner all likely in front of him, figure there's only one spot, though. Minors: Tropeano (AA Houston): 7-10, 4.11, 1.339 WHIP. Probably back in AA next year, I'd think. Jankowski (A+ San Diego): .286/.356/.355 in 556 PA. Led California League (by a lot) with 71 SB, scored 89 runs despite missing the end of the year with a leg injury. AA in 2014, I'd think. Cantwell (A+ Texas): .249/.313/.311 in 289 PA. Has thrown out 32% of runners trying to steal in the past two years, though. Campbell (A Dodgers): 1-8, 7.65 in 24 games (7 starts) across three levels, moving the wrong direction. Thanks for the memories, James. Carmona (A Philly): .303/.356/.433 in 505 PA. Got off to a horrific start, but turned it on. (Hit .363 in June, .311 in August, .309 in September.) Six home runs. Mostly DHing, a little 1B/3B. Tissenbaum (A San Diego): .277/.365/.359 in 401 PA. 43 BB/36 K. Gotta figure he slides up too. Rakkar (A- Chicago): 4-1, 3.58 in 37 2/3 innings out of the pen. 1.088 WHIP, 4.10 K/BB. August: 13 2/3 innings, 3 ER, 2 BB, 21 K. Nice! Johnson (A- Oakland): 1-0, 1.71 in 42 innings, 3 saves. 1.167 WHIP.
  23. I see nothing in either of those images, but I see the one in the top post.
  24. You'll lose Torres and Recker if you expose them, but the others are all expendable. I'd let some other time roll the dice on Rice next year.
