I'd much rather do what we did with Soto. I own Spencer Horwitz in the ottoneu league. He's kind of a Daniel Murphy type -- he doesn't have the power bat you'd expect from a first baseman, but it's not clear at this stage in his career that he can play second base well enough to stick there. He had an .864 OPS against right-handed pitching as a rookie though, so there's plenty of value even if he's older than Gimenez.

He gives me very much a Robinson Cano-esque wrong side of the bell curve vibe. I'd prefer someone younger and better at sports.

The Mets signed like a 25 year ish deal when they agreed to make Syracuse their AAA affiliate. I am pretty sure that is unaffected by this recent maneuver. I don't know that it will change things much. We attend a dozen or so games per year, and always have, though the games are more fun now that they are Mets games, compared to years of Chiefs/SkyChiefs games as affiliates of Toronto, Washington and probably some other teams I've forgotten. My biggest fear is that they'll rename the team to something stupid like the Rumble Ponies (owned by DBH). I think you'd have to be pretty stupid to move away from the current name, as there's nothing bigger in all of baseball right now than the New York Fuckin A Mets

I feel like the Soto signing has one of two effects on Pete's scenario: 1. He's likely to go to the MFYs, now, who need a power bat to replace Soto and have the very toast-ish Anthony Rizzo manning 1B currently, and can entice him with the short porch, or 2. He's maybe equally likely to resign with the Mets, because he wants to be a part of a championship team in this borough and the Soto deal pushes the needle in the right direction I suppose that some dark horse candidate comes along and offers him stupid money and he takes it to go play somewhere else but I feel it's most likely going to be 1 or 2 above.

He did win a game with a walk off HR, which I remember only because it was his first ever career walk off HR amongst his 300+ career dingers.

If I lived within mass transit distance of the ballpark I'd likely do something like this as well.
