  1. Can you explain the "net games back" column? Thx
  2. Mets take a Catcher from Georgia Tech...
  3. Carlos Zambrano is the silver-slugger, yes?
  4. I wonder if vaccination status will factor into trade deadline decisions. I know Benitendi is highly sought after by the Yankees (among others), but if he is unavailable for several trips to Toronto for AL East contests (as opposed to the three games KC plays there) would it affect his value?
  5. I guess the Mets of my youth were too young a franchise to have OTD but I remember Celebrity and Family Softball games-- at lest I remember them being featured in the Yearbooks. I think Craig Swan had a smokeshow of a wife, and there was a picture of the Happy Days cast with Joel Youngblood or someone if I recall.
  6. Boy, Mike Trout is um, kinda insipid.
  7. Carlos Baerga. Alex Ochoa. Ellis Valentine.
  8. Ryan Zimmermann (17) and Stephen Strasburg (12) might make it to your list one day. I suppose lots of duos might, but they probably have the best shot?
  9. Did I miss it? Opening week without that post is like Christmas without "A Visit from Saint Nicholas"
  10. I love it. When I lived in California, the early morning east coast games were fantastic
  11. P ost lock-out, I thought that they would (especially with SC's comment that it would be rude not to exceed the tax named after him): 5. Sign a FA OF #5--no, unless you count Travis Jankowski. Marte and Canha don't count? I still think this team needs work-- the rotation and BP are essentially all RH. And there's not enough at bats for Davis/McNeil/Escobar (a signing we did not need).
  12. I recall a push for the Mets to sign him a year or two before he actually joined the squad. Other than that....
  13. That's my town-- the RPH is a great venue--- I encourage those able to do so to attend.
  14. As a kid I remember Diamond Vision actually being touted as a major off-season improvement for the early 80s Mets. Not free agents, not trades, but a fucking scoreboard.
  15. IMHO, McNeil is the best second baseman they have right now, so if the season opened today, he'd be starting there. I definitely agree with Wolf that if he left, he'd be a perennial batting champion. I could see him raking in Colorado for a few years. I think 2/3 of Dom, JD, and McNeil go before Spring training, and I'm not sure how I feel about.
  16. Randy Jones? Tom Glavine?
  17. How about....Jose Oquendo? Mets pedigree, perennial and well-respected Cardinals coach. Managed PR WBC team: no room for him to advance in St. Louis, apparently. I'd kick the tires, at least.
  18. It's easy to point to the 2-11 run against LAD and SFG as the death-knell, but we were competitive in almost all of those games. Many one-run affairs in that stretch. What killed me was their performance against the Pirates--the PIRATES--in the games before and after the ASG. You HAVE to beat up on the cellar-dwellers if you plan to contend. That showed me this team was more sizzle than steak.
  19. Baltimore Chop is a good one! A Texas Leaguer was another
  20. That's when he got hit by the Nats reliever last Thursday.
  21. I gotta tell ya...that stadium, and that announcing team (Kuiper and Krukow, whom MFS62 once described as 'having a smirk like he just fucked your sister'), and those garlic fries....shit they made it hard not to be a fan. They are the only team I'd consider supporting.....if not for our Mets.
  22. My (then) wife and i lived in the Bay Area from 1998-2013. I really became a fan, especially after the Giants moved from Candlestick to the city. One day, my then 10 and 6 year olds (??) came back from school with "very important news to discuss." After the Giants won 3/5 championships, and all their friends were crazy for Posey, Panda, and that long-bearded closer, they "didn't want to root for the Mets but liked the Giants." It was kinda hard to argue, but I put them up for adoption.
  23. I remember being haunted by the grainy back-and-white photo on the backpage of the Daily News showing JRR collapsed on the turf and doctors attending to him. I couldnt be mis-remembering that, could I?
  24. Tailspin. Booby V used to say that the way to win championships was to split series with the good teams, and win 2/3 of those against the bottom feeders. We are struggling to beat the Pirates and Marlins of the world. It makes no difference if we are in the weakest division in baseball if we cant take advantage of it! Injuries aside, this team lacks a killler instinct that the great teams have: you gotta feast on the bottom-feeders. (I remember for years the Yankees routinely went 15-3 or better against the Orioles.)
  25. Trevor Bauer is a "rival" of decency and humanity. Fuck him. But if we want to stick to current "rivals" I'd have to concur with GFAIF, Rhys Hoskins.
