  1. Manager #1: Maddon
  2. Sheldon Adelson looks like the chest thing that leads the rebels in Total Recall. Kuatu? Kwata? I mean, you think "anyone but the Wilpons," and you write "anyone but the Wilpons," and you actually say it once or twice, and it's Sheldon Fucking Gambling Troll Adelson. 2020!
  3. Do I have to wear pants? 'Cause HOMEY DON'T PLAY DAT #everythingninetiesisnewagain
  4. Um... why the hell isn't SNY showing us some camp action? YES has been doing it for nigh on a week, now.
  5. This offseason was handled pretty damn well. The last one... was not. I mean, you HAVE to make the guy dance, right?
  6. In all fairness, he's done about as much for us, post-Grandy trade, as Grandy has done for us, post-Grandy trade. So... evens!

Edgy MD wrote: I didn't feel a particular imperative for the Braves to give up their nickname, or even the screaming face in their logo, but my wife reminded me that without the name, and the logo, we wouldn't have the stupid, stupid, tomahawk chop. Right as usual, Dear. What came first-- the Tomahawk Chop or the Seminole War Chant? Pretty sure the Braves just ripped off the collegiates on this.
  8. While some lunatic was reading from Stephen Miller's bar napkin about left wing fascists destroying history into a South Dakota microphone, the rest of us were enjoying the crazily-anticipated, richly-reimagined, insanely-hyped musical version of said history, courtesy of Disney Plus and Lin-Manuel Miranda. As someone who's heard this soundtrack so much on car rides/shared speaker experiences/Zoom "sleepover" monitoring, I've inadvertently memorized it almost in its entirety... I still found this shockingly good, and intensely moving in spots. My MVPs/those served best by the direction: 1) Leslie Odom, Jr. (crazy range, performance and expressiveness-wise-- even more than the considerable range he displays on the cast recording) 2) Renee Elise Goldsberry (that "Helpless" into "Satisfied" is a fucking gut-wrench and a half; she will EGOT one day, mark it down) 3) Daveed Diggs (destroys with charm in both roles; it's nuts how hard he is to peel your eyes from, even in company numbers) Do you agree? Or are a far-left fascist cadre trying to destroy (artistic depictions of, and the enjoyment thereof) our history?
  9. It HAS to be the Spiders. Even leaving aside the history-- can you imagine how sick those uniforms will look? No. Try now (courtesy of UniWatch contributor Tom Juettner: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49998452608_c4851e12d5_b.jpg> https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49998975061_25bb851579_b.jpg>
  10. Ah, fuggit. Little Kid Me goes kicking and screaming, but Team LWFS casts its collective vote for Lil' Petey.
  11. Edgy MD wrote: I'm just happy to believe that there is a strategizin'. This is exactly where I'd expect an organization on the block to cut expenses. I mean, he's not spending any MORE money than he'd otherwise spend.
  12. =MFS62 post_id=39570 time=1593516576 user_id=60] The Mets have reportedly come to terms with second round draftee JT Ginn for over the slot money. No $ details yet. Later
  13. I'm partial to Doc. But it's worth noting that Pedro was staring down the barrel of an absurd, inflated amount of offense nearly every time he took the mound.
  14. Edgy MD wrote: Frayed Knot wrote: Conflation alert: Gordon Beckham was drafted in the same draft as Tim Beckham who was the 1/1 pick that year. Both were from Georgia and neither lived up to his potential but the similarities ended there. Tim was a black HS pick who played the OF; Gordon is white, an IF, and was drafted out of UGa I appreciate the de-conflation. FWIW, Tim Beckham is ALSO an available free agent at present, https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/free-agents/as far as we know.
  15. Add Ian Desmond to the list. Also, to the list of ballplayers I now follow Instagram WWW.INSTAGRAM.COM on Instagram. (I'm not going to copy his post accompanying the word he won't be playing... but it's thoughtful, and it's well worth five minutes of your reading time.)
  16. I'm sure-- 99.5 percent or so-- that I'm probably the only one this bugs, but... the German in me is INCESSANTLY annoyed when I see new posts here, and they end up being from a Marlo Thomas sitcom rerun, or a Dick Cavett throwaway joke from '76. I mean, just because I read MADAME BOVARY this weekend doesn't make it part of 2020 popular culture. (Although finding out Charles Bovary was a big Ike-over-Duda guy would be a pretty big fun.)
  17. I mean, basketball gets different treatment because basketball's a different sport. It's a contact, indoor jobber; baseball-- tag plays aside-- is not, and is certainly not.
  18. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=39255 time=1593018835 user_id=68] Never knew that Sinatra had a high school named after him. He also had a huge cock, according to Ava Gardner.
  19. I mean, if you're going to get a massive rule change imposed on your league and organization by fiat, well... this may not be a terrible time, Met-fortunes-wise, for it to happen. J.D. Davis/Dominic Smith/Ostensibly-Recovering Cespedes isn't a bad rotation to run out there.
  20. If there were one thing I'd change about these guys, it's that there's such a through-gritted-teeth attitude regarding numbers. In a way, though... that's another, supplementary way of engaging the audience. I'll grant that the Giants crew is not bad, though. Honestly, I think Keith's Q-rating is what puts us over the top.
  21. Sheryl and Lance's kid-- CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE-- seems nice and all, but Garrett Mitchell was still out there? That guy from UCLA with the sweet, close-to-majors-ready bat and https://www.foxsports.com/wisconsin/story/milwaukee-brewers-2020-mlb-draft-grades-analysis-garrett-mitchell-freddy-zamora-061220the Type 1 diabetes who's also plenty playable in center? Farts.
  22. CA-CAW (How hard is it to spell Armstrong?)
  23. https://ohiostatebuckeyes.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Dingler_Dillon-34-e1571758724974-1024x828.jpg> "I'm a star, I'm a star-- I'm a big, bright shining star."
  24. We used to play later in the day-- 4-6 pm-ish-- when I worked for the New York Red Cross, so we wouldn't see these guys... but we would see some of the New York Media Softball Leaguers (formerly populated with Conde Nasties and such, now full of Buzzfeeds and the like). The dominant team? High Times. Like, PERENNIALLY. We used to play exhibition games with them every now and again, and they'd MURDER us. CRAZY defense, IIRC.
  25. =41Forever post_id=37641 time=1590865694 user_id=69]That said, I have a Mercury Mets jersey and cap!
