  1. Not if Cespedes and/or Lowrie are in the mix, it won't. (8 starters, Jake-Thor-Stroman-Matz-Porcello in the rotation, Diaz-Betances-Lugo-Gsellman-Familia-Wilson-Brach-Wacha in the pen, and a bench that will have a catcher and Marisnick, and things get tight.)
  2. You remember this story from such films as Little Women (1917), Little Women (1918), Little Women (the Katharine Hepburn one), Little Women (the color one with Liz Taylor, Margaret O'Brien, and Janet Leigh, Little Women (the Winona Ryder/Christian Bale one), and more radios, plays, radio plays, and BBC serials than the supermarket has... um... juice brands. Also, I think it was a book. This one's adapted/directed by Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird), and stars Saoirse Ronan, Hermione, The Streep, and the girl from Midsommar/the forthcoming Black Widow. Does it make you happy as a cricket? Or would you rather take coffee than compliment this one right now?

Edgy MD wrote: One advantage that trading for a phat contract has over signing someone to one, is that you're only exposed to risk of catastrophe (David Wright's broken spine, for instance) for three or so years, vs. as opposed to seven or so. There are seven years left on the Arenado extension. There's also a player opt-out after 2021. So if things are going WELL, he's gone in two years. They're going to want more than we should give. We should not give that.
  4. Whither Dominic Smith?
  5. Good dude. Was lovely to 4 y/o YoungerPooper when they met.
  6. I AM AN INFLUENCER
  7. Relative to their salaries, McNeil is worth more than Arenado. If you want to monetize that, well, you'll want to get more than a great player with a terrible, player-friendly deal. Edgy MD wrote: https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2017/11/hard-pass.jpg> Assuming this still is from "Cop Land," and I will go to the mats with anyone and say that this is literally Sly's best film. In a movie with DeNiro, Liotta, Keitel and others and he totally holds up his end. Strong drama. Funny that in a thread about a potential trade for a Coloradan, you'd forget ROCKY.
  8. That WAS a tasty double, IIRC. Laser to the oppo-field gap, ah believe.

  10. Captain America: First Avenger :: The Rocketeer/poor man's Raiders Captain America: Winter Soldier:: Day of the Jackal/The Conversation in tights Captain America:: Civil War:: the stupid version of Civil War from the comics/Face Off? Iron Man-- the first one-- holds up surprisingly well, and goes a long way toward keeping Downey Jr's Stark rootable through the whole series
  11. More charming than it had any right to be, really. Like BOWFINGER as an inspirational tale.
  12. Thanks for your well-considered rebuttal on such a sensitive matter. Listen, I didn't mean to be dismissive above, but I've had many variations on this conversation with several women in my life lately, and I'm a little sick of trying to argue compassion into people. If you see women going through some of the same shit you've been through, and your response is a variant on "Fuck 'em, they should have known better," then, well... you do you. But yeah, if you're going to vocalize it, you may get some blowback.
  13. I can't believe they waited this long for Al. Both thumbs up for Fonzie.
  14. TBF, if we're going by its prevalence in 2020, it IS baseball, at least more than non-DH is.
  15. Liover Peguero is great, as long as you go for the salsa morado, not salsa verde
  16. With all due respect, that's fucked. That's a fucked sentiment. Also, when you say things like "they don't deserve to be accosted" and "they should know what's coming," you're contradicting yourself.
  17. I always hated the "don't speak ill of the dead" thing. I mean, if you're going to remember a guy or gal, remember a guy or gal in full.
  18. Fair point. Revised: Those guys play 1-3 positions while giving you poor overall production; HE plays SEVERAL positions while giving you poor overall production.
  19. I don't think you heard me, bud. Those guys play 1-3 positions poorly; HE plays SEVERAL positions poorly.
  20. He had range? He's more like SuperSuperJoe, insofar as he plays a lot of positions (like, everything but catcher and pitcher). Which is to say, he owns a lot of gloves, not that he wields them with any particular skill. IIRC, he also runs. Or ran. Does he still run?
  21. I want to say that THE POPE MUST DIE/THE POPE MUST DIE(T) was something along these lines.

  23. That beard looks great. And so does his facial hair.
  24. Lefty Specialist wrote: Benjamin Grimm wrote: Great guys they hired in the first place include Mickey Callaway and Willie Randolph and Art Howe. And Gil Hodges and Bobby Valentine and Davey Johnson. These guys didn't hire those guys. He seems promising, has the support of most of the locker room, and is more than a little conversant with both metrics and baseball lifeishness. I'm all right with it.
  25. Like I said in the Oscar thread, I liked this one lots more than I thought I would. Pryce has never been one of those guys who's been a draw for me when I see him attached to something... but damn if I can think of something (save maybe that Bond movie he was in) where I haven't at least relished his performance a little. He's fantastic, and Hopkins is a great, prickly sparring partner. I don't love the vaguely sitcommy notes it strikes later in the thing, and wish the frisson of the early clashes was a bit more present in the latter portion of it, but overall... I was impressed and engaged and pleased. Great script.
