I mean, give him a reasonable offer, and you're halfway they-ahh.

I mean, I like it. Our pitchers might disagree, to a man. As might anyone looking at our bottom-5 outfield defense/plethora of flyball-prone pitchers.

"I'm not a guy to make excuses, or denigrate others, or seek exoneration from people who never played the game. Now here's several dozen sentences of excuses, passive-aggressive blame of others, and mitigation. By the way, I've got Asperger's (?) and my wife has cancer, and while that doesn't ennoble me, let me mention her four more times in the course of this letter just in case it kindasorta does." This is meant to be an honorable, face-saving withdrawal. It's casting blame without actually saying, "You're at fault." It's disingenuously, vaguely admitting trespasses without actually admitting to any actual, specific trespasses. It's a non-apology apology. It's bombast in the cloak of dignity. It's a slick little self-encomium. It's "My Way," only marginally politer. And I don't know about you, friends... but I fucking hate "My Way." And it's "my family and ME," you seditious blowhard, you swollen pink human tumor.

I'm kinda into Ollie, too. Also... Gilmartin. #messybitch

Bauer has TENDED to stick to one-year deals-- presumably, with a higher AAV-- for https://www.redlegnation.com/2020/04/08/reds-pitcher-trevor-bauer-on-why-hes-only-signing-1-year-deals/a few reasons. [bLOCKQUOTE]“I want to be able to be happy playing the game that I love. So I want to end up in situations that make me happy and make me fulfilled. That can be situations like the Reds have, where there's just a really great group of people that just make me fulfilled as a person,” said Bauer. If the quote stopped there it would be great news to the organization, and probably to many fans who would like to see him stick around in the rotation for a while longer. But the quote didn't end there. “That can be situations like jumping into a team that's going to go on a playoff run and hopefully win a World Series. That can be a team that would let me pitch every 4th day or treats me with respect in a way that no other team has. Or whatever the case is – there's certain things that are more important to me than money. And I want to be able to control where I play and when and the situations I'm in so that as I change too, and things become more important to me, or less important to me as I evolve that I can tailor fit my situation to reflect that.” Winning certainly seems important to Bauer, as it is for nearly every high-level athlete. “I want to be on a contender every year because I love competing at the highest level and the highest level is the World Series,” he said. “So I want to have a chance to go to the World Series every single year. And the way baseball is currently structured, there's not many teams that go into spring training trying to win the World Series that year.”[/bLOCKQUOTE] It's quite something to see someone slowly 24-and-1 himself, innit? What exactly is wrong with these quotes? He wants to win, he wants to decide where he works - its not like he agreed to a 5 year deal and then made a stink to get traded (Hi Deshaun!), if he prefers to look for the best deal every year and ignore the injury risk to himself, cool! i'd be much happier if the Mets signed him SHORT term anyway! Nothing's objectively wrong with them, I suppose. But it literally sets him apart from his teammates and team, as someone who ,as a rule (as THE rule), will not commit to an organization.

=Fman99 post_id=54790 time=1611668709 user_id=86] Trevor Rosenthal needs a custom jersey with an opening between the numbers -- so that the giant fork sticking out of his back doesn't tear the fabric.

Gave us more quality innings than Long Island Mets this year

Now that the prime lefty relief merchandise is off the shelf, what else do we have available for purchase that will help us with nagging late-inning lefty-removal? -- Solid, good old reliable mid-shelf lefty brand, like, say, https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.fcgi?id=wilsoju10&year=2019&t=pJustin https://www.fangraphs.com/players/justin-wilson/4301/stats?position=PWilson: round peg for round hole; familiar, if uncreative, problem-solving -- Surprisingly effective off-label-use righty, a la https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.fcgi?id=rosentr01&year=Career&t=pTrevor https://www.fangraphs.com/players/trevor-rosenthal/10745/stats?position=PRosenthal, with a surprising https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.fcgi?id=rosentr01&year=Career&t=pplatoon tilt : interesting, if potentially-more-expensive option (potential bonus: extra Trevor) -- Discount rack/"woke" brand (and cheap bounce-back candidate?) https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/doolise01.shtmlSean https://www.fangraphs.com/players/sean-doolittle/1581/stats?position=PDoolittle: likely cheap, veddddddddy interesting, possibly done -- Something else you're considering putting in the cart? Anyone who is HOF eligible right now can make his list. That means no active players. He's got plenty of Negro Leaguers on his list and 19th century players, too. He's also got ineligible (banned) players on his list -- Shoeless Joe and Pete Rose. One category I'm not sure of is whether players who are still appearing on the initial HOF ballot without having fallen off that ballot are eligible for his list, but I assume no because he's named 97 players already and no one from that category has made his 100 yet. No Josh Gibson yet, no? Gibson was elected into the Hall of Fame in 1972. https://baseballhall.org/hall-of-famers/gibson-joshhttps://baseballhall.org/hall-of-famers/gibson-josh Later Yeah, I'm a moron.

=smg58 post_id=54750 time=1611621446 user_id=62] I got no gripe with Wilson. Doolittle is too much of a lottery ticket at this point.

$10M for Familia, $7M (among other things) for Diaz, $6M for Betances because somebody thought offering a player option in what should have been a "prove it" contract was a good idea, $2m for Brach for the same reason, plus arbitration for Lugo, Gsellman, Castro, and even Jacob Barnes, that's already 3 more righty relievers than you even want. If May is a better investment than anything Brodie concocted, I'm not going to complain about his signing so much. But the possibility exists that Brodie's tenure is continuing, and will continue, to hold the team back. Fair point... but point of order: we don't need lefty relievers; we need relievers who are effective against left-handers. (To wit: May is https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.fcgi?id=maytr01&year=Career&t=pmore effective-- if marginally-- against lefties over his career, as are available righty relievers Trevor Rosenthal and Alex Colome.)

Cohen made the only move he could make, and did it swiftly. Had this been the previous regime-- and I get how pointless it is to constantly do this, but crisis-management brings it inescapably to mind-- we would've gotten a "The organization is looking into these serious allegations" memo, and then never hear about it again, except through countless leaks. Edgy MD wrote: The goofy part is reading back testimonials from when he got hired, describing him as decent, sensitive, and thoughtful. https://twitter.com/billjamesonline/status/1338305439520448512 Alas, Bill James is depressingly... off about a lot of things. (In terms of Old School Stalwarts revealing themselves after going online in a way that almost stains their previous contributions/importance, he's low-key been Murray Chass-class of late.)

=Centerfield post_id=53544 time=1610117454 user_id=65] Glove is already top notch. Great hands, which make you think he'll hit for average long term. It really comes down to if he has enough power to become a star, but he'll be a very good MLB shortstop for many years.

Yeah, that soundtrack. This felt like Inside Out for grown-ups, which I mean as a high compliment. Edgy MD wrote: Pixar films I have never seen: A Bug's Life Cars (I think I bailed at about the half-hour mark on this.) Cars 2 Monsters University Cars 3 The Good Dinosaur Coco Onward I feel like Cars was where they started doing the movie-star "one for you, one for me" thing, only as a studio. (Thankfully, our little spawn never really had a vehicles-and-nothing-but phase, so we only watched this once, and didn't have to see any of the sequels.) Of those, the only one I think you'd miss if you didn't see it is our south-of-the-border entry. Coco is pretty delightful, with marvelously filigreed story and animation, and earwormy Mexi-folk-showtune pastiche music (courtesy of the "Frozen" team). And-- be warned-- it has a 97-98% chance of making you ugly-cry.
