  1. now, now, children. at least we're not going futuristic with our unis. though mercury mets throwbacks would be a hoot.
  2. we need to incorporate the traditions of the prior five and ten years! slather 'em in garish hot pink and sprinkle them with crystals. it's what the NFL would do.
  3. i'm so glad i got the other contest right...
  4. wow. just wow. i mean, i can't help but feel bad for miami, i suppose. and though the outcome was seemingly inevitable, the swiftness of it all is just appalling. i'm glad the jays made out well. hopefully the back-loaded contracts won't prove too onerous for them, and they can make some hay in the al east. i'm now free to root for jose reyes again. yay! also, i think the wilpon family should send a nice fruit basket to the loria compound, to thank them sincerely for providing a counterpoint to all the claims of them being the worst owners imaginable. fuck the wilpons, but at least they're not jeffrey loria.
  5. the deathship needs to arbitrate arbitrarily.
  6. i like the idea of a northern new jersey team. sussex county needs some damned baseball! or is that too far north?
  7. holy bleeping bleepity bleep! i'm flabbergasted. i feel like i'm being hoodwinked. how in tarnation did this just happen? jason bay tried really really hard. too hard for his face. i'll miss him in a way. i'll also be inclined to pick him up in every fantasy league i play in, but only if he's super-duper cheap.
  8. hey, all, get your arbitration dollars in asap! time's a-wasting!

  10. not that we have anywhere to necessarily play him, but if the deal were on the table to trade jason bay for alex rodriguez with the yankees covering the difference in the two salaries, would you take it?
  11. of these, i've seen... 47. Starship Troopers (1997) 43. Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) - i'm a big big fan of this movie. 36. L.A. Confidential (1997) 34. Seven (1995) - i saw it, but don't remember much of it 33. The Matrix (1999) - thanks, the matrix, for ruining most action movies for the next dozen years 30. The Thin Red Line (1998) - i was underimpressed, but then, i don't really know great cinema. in truth, i remember so very little of this movie. apparently, i watch movies without watching them. 28. Election (1999) - was it this one or rushmore that i couldn't get through? another movie i scarcely recall 21. Fargo (1995) 15. Groundhog Day (1993) - one of my favorites 10. Being John Malkovich (1999) - i also like weird movies like this, and also like john cusack. 9. Rushmore (1998) - was it this one or election that i couldn't get through? i forget 8. Unforgiven (1992) - i'm a little surprised this didn't bring back more westerns. 7. Reservoir Dogs (1992) 3. Toy Story 2 (1999) - seriously... not the first? wow. 2. Pulp Fiction (1994) 1. Goodfellas (1990)

  13. yup. if you do it wrong, the page'll come up with an error. it'd be more helpful if it explained what you did wrong, but, eh, whatchagonnaedo!
  14. arbitration season is open! get in there and jack up the salaries of your opponents' best deals!

It's like he's completely oblivious to everything about the A-Rod/Yankees fan relationship. This is shaping up to be a pretty [crossout]horrific[/crossout] terrific ending to the season for the Yankees. not selling out, ushers moving fans into empty seats so it looks better, guys making postseason outs at historic paces, not hitting, Jeter getting hurt. I think we're one rampant steroid allegation from George rising from the grave to stir up some chaos. fixed it for you

  17. based on beltran's war - that thing which is everything and the only thing forever and ever - per team: team - bwar / fwar kcr - 23.4 / 25.5 hou - 4.4 / 4.0 nym - 30.2 / 30.9 sfg - 1.0 / 1.3 stl - 3.6 / 3.6 beltran's best years were with the mets. is it a big enough difference to begin to say that he is best remembered as a met, or most notably a met? it may be too early to say. he may be most notably an astro...
  18. he also hit the ball really well and played good defense. sigh.
  19. he's worth well in excess of 20 now (if you look at his $/WAR equivalent). the rub is will he be worth that towards the end of the deal. and i think that if he's put behind himself the nonsense that was 2009-11, and if he stays healthy, he'll likely have no trouble achieving that level of production for the duration. perhaps towards the end, he may not be a 4 WAR player, but i think he will be. granted, those $/WAR calculations always seem flawed to me. if you pay a guy $20M a year, you're probably expecting him to deliver far more than 4 WAR. you're expecting more like 6 WAR. and if you pay a guy close to $30M or even more, its a flat out disaster if he's not the MVP. [snicker arod snicker]
  20. why would hte mascot not be a grey? i don't get it at all.
  21. is that a knockoff jar jar binks? ugh!
  22. i saw that javier was hte first player to get a hit against teh mets in '62, and thought originally that it might be a list of players who got the first hits against a given mets manager, but that didn't pan out at all. i then looked into the players' all star game appearances, but poor brian hunter never made it. all other players appeared to have been on the same all star roster with a hall of fame pitcher (or future hall of famer) who eventually would play for the mets, though that's hardly a limiting circumstance. then i saw the hint, and it all clicked - javier got hte first hit for a cardinal. and i figured jeter probably did it for the yanks so i looked up surhof. sure 'nuf! then it was just a matter of time to find out when the rangers and a's first played hte mets, and again the atlanta iteration of hte braves and hte american iteration of les expos. very nice.
  23. i thought briefly that i might be on track with something, but then it proved a dead end. or maybe i didn't just pull the string long enough... oe: got it. assembling answer now.
  24. when espn radio made the switch, i feared i would lose out on micahel kay for those brief moments when i wantred afternoon sports talk administered by some buffoon other than mike francessa. turned out, while they were simulcast, i actually got the fm station better for most of my commute, axcept for about two miles where i'm on the lee side of a mountain that effectively blocks the signal. overall, the listening experience was improved, and there was less static and whatnot. if i can get the same effect from wfan-fm, i won't be too disappointed, though it is true that i'm on about the edge of fm-listenability, and am signals do travel farther. the biggest impact though, will be that i will no longer be as attuned to the electrostatic nature of the atmoshpere, and will no longer be able to estimate the nearness, frequency, and severity of summertime elctrical storms.
  25. yes, but then so did the bot. at least you can relish the opportunity to drop him with vehemence. ... hmm... i think you'll need ceetar to designate clockwork as abandoned. i cannot apparently abandon the team myself. at least, i don't see the button anywhere.
