  1. i lack the sophistication to look beyond 6 innings, one run? good! nobody else did anything much of good? even better!

  8. it's not so much that it's an attempt at an early 20th century park that was made in the 21st century, its that its a disneyification of a early 20th century park that was made in the 20th century. actually, i think disney could've come up with something more authentic looking. the real problem is that its design cries out for it's lack of authenticity, and for its lack of actual architecture. its all modern facade with modern materials in kindof the style of an old ball park. and that's why it falls flat. camden yards appears to have captured more autheniticity, although surely much of that is the actual authentic warehouse out in right feild. i actually like shea bridge, though it really is a missed opportunity. in fact, the first time in the stadium, i missed it. i had to go back and look for the bridge that i had already crossed at least once. it could be so much more than it is, so much more architectural, so much more substantial, so much more authentic, but it just isn't. it's just kindof there.
  9. oh, yeah, there it is. i set it to batters playing during 2005, with 5000+ plate appearances. i still got a few wrong.
  10. hmm, i didn't see hte option to adjust the minimum plate appearances. i gave up after getting a guy who tossed 42 middle relief innings for milwaukee in one season in the mid nineties.

  13. time to dust off the cumbersome spreasheet! hey, where did i put that skate key...?

(If Terry's culpable, than I and many other fans certainly are.) The timeline certainly supports that scenario, statistically. only it doens't really. sure, after the no hitter, he got beat up badly by the yankees for 6 runs in five innings, and again the next time out by the rays 4 runs in 6 innings. and that might be expected if he got hurt or if he just got hisself tired from the 134 pitches. after the rays game, his era was at 3.23. but look what he did in his next three starts. 6 innings no runs 6 innings 2 runs 8 innings no runs his era was down to 2.76. and then, against the cubs on july 6th, he was 4 inning in, and had given up 2 runs while striking out 6. he collides with reed johnson, hurts his ankle, and falls on his side. he throws 0.2 more IP giving up 5 more runs. the rest of his season is as follows: 5 innings 6 runs 3 innings 6 runs 1.1 innings 8 runs 5 innings 6 runs shut down. if he injured himself last season, then the evidence points to the cubs game, and the johnson collision. maybe the 134 pitches contributed some lingering faitgue that contributed to the injury on that date, or maybe it didn't. it sure didn;'t seem to have affected him terribly much the prior three starts.
  15. as much as i would love to see wheeler open the season with the mets, i would much more happily trade 20 days of him this year for 162 days of him in 6 years. it's kindof a no-brainer for a team that doesn't particularly look like it's going to be a contender this season. if the mets were in more of a win-now mode, then sure, maybe you start the season with him if you think he'd contribute more than hefner. but we're building for the future. lets keep him around for more of it.
  16. not that i'm an expert, but isn't that the marines' pattern? the army's desert pattern has more dark brown in it. i'm not sure whether the air force uses a tan uniform, but i don't think the navy much uses desert colors. nor the coast guard. and i'm pretty sure that while all of our fallen members of the armed forces loved their service and their uniforms and their fellow servicemen, what they lived for and what they died for was their country. so instead of some ill-fitting misrepresentation of their memory, how about we commemorate them (if indeed we must commemorate them with commercialized pieces of alternative baseball kit) with the good ol' red white & blue. there's gotta be some variations on the stars and stripes that we haven't yet used up. and then maybe we'll be neither glorifying nor trivializing war.
  17. since i work with actual soldiers and stuff, on an actual army base and what not, i'd feel really poseuriffic wearing one of those. bring back the flag hats. back in hte day there was a guy on base who drove around his Hummer H1 on base. the civillian version. it was nice - dark blue, and really sharp. as a boy/teen, i would have swooned over the thing. and i mean, i was fresh out of college. and i couldn't quite imagine any greensuiters taking him seriously. i mean, i don't know who he was - maybe he was a veteran and just had a huge affinity for the damned things - but it just struck me as kinda dumb and off-putting. because, when you think of it, where the fuck do you actually have any actual use for a civilianized HMMWV in new jersey?

  21. well, i expected prices to go way up this season, but instead, for hte most part, tehy are way below what we were paying for players last year. i've got a bit of a logjam at third base, and am willing to find a new home for one of my hot cornermen. i kinda wish votto would have come up before miggy, as he would have better fit my team's needs, but i cannot complain about a $33 miggy. i simply couldn't let him pass, even if it means ultimately giving up either an evan longoria ($38) or a brett lawrie ($22). make your offers! i could use help at 2b, of, and i won't turn my nose up at a compelling pitching offer.
  22. it must hurt having htat one strap go through his neck...
  23. lucas duda scared bogfoot into hiding
  24. if you're doing tv, then clearly, newhart must be on the list, right? as far as movies which may be unmentioned, i believe that memento would fit the bill.
