  1. well, i needed an outfielder to replace andres torres...
  2. 3 games in, and my [crossout:2zsrnvri]psychotic delusion[/crossout:2zsrnvri] alter ego is kicking my ass. sigh.
  3. via email conversation with the owner of the red flyers. he emailed onnoneu about king felix' innings, which they decided to credit him. he asked then about the rest of the teams in hte league that were similarly affected, and the response was to have the commish send them an email with the affected teams. i assume telling them the affected players on those affected teams would only help matters.
  4. apparently, anyone who had a player in the first game of the season, who was in their lineup the night of hte draft, but who was taken out of hte lineup when they were reset on the completion of the draft, can have their playing time reinstated, provided our esteemed commissioner sends an email to the kind folks at ottoneu with a list of all the player corrections to be made. while this gives us a chance to be retroactively picky in who we play, lets try to keep it honest. me, i had kurt suzuki ©, dustin ackley (MI) , and mike carp (OF) in the first game. yes, i'm taking credit for an 0-4 performance and a 1-5. frakkin' honesty.
  5. wow. the first action scene on there looks like an awesome video game cutscene. seriously, aren't we to the point where we should be able to get our computer animators to make humans look like humans behaving like humans? fine, if you have to dumb it down to get it to run on the playstation. but there' s no processing power required for the big screen. just dump the fucking frames to the reel. you've got a big enough budget, i'm sure. buy an extra fucking processor to run the animation on.
  6. oh, good. i had some nice dustin ackley offense in the first game that i wouldn't mind getting credit for. also, i did indeed confirm, through the help of my little metallic friend, that initiating an auction for a player does indeed obligate you to bid the minimum $1, regardless of whether you actually place the $1 bid, or even if you subsequently delete it (or a higher value).
  7. man, i am so fried from last night! getting a bunch of gears and springs and rubber bands to interface with an iphone is not easy. i would've had the 'bot use a second computer, but i forgot to bring a laptop cord home. i lost track of what i was doing for my own team, and overspent in the early goings last night, leaving me with no flexibility to get my steals last night. so often i had a guy i wanted, nominated him, and lost him 'cos i couldn't go to $3 for him. and there were a few players i lost because i though i was clicking on the bid button, but was only just selecting hte window. argh! i'm sure others had difficulties, and these were all of my own doing. but still. what a chore!
  8. so what would be the point of me putting a plyer into my minor leagues?
  9. wait... i'd have to shell out another $10 for this wouldn't i?
  10. it is done. ive got the following bins set up for player salaries: $bin # slots 30-39 1 25-29 2 20-24 3 15-19 3 10-14 5 7-9 4 5-6 5 3-4 6 1-2 5 0 ($1) 3 -1 ($1) 3 hanley ramirez fills the top bin. there is only one player left on m.e.t.b.o.t.' s data sheet that fits into the 25-29 bin, so that unused slot will move down to the 20-24 range. if m.e.t.b.o.t. is unable to acquire the remaining player he has valued at $25-$29, that wil free up another slot in the $20-$24 range, to a total of 5 slots. this approach will be used throughout the draft. the bottom two bins are both for $1 players. m.e.t.b.o.t. will not bid on any players who have a negative value on his spreadsheet.
  11. i definitely need to start turning him to my financial advantage...
  12. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I'd probably prefer we go with 11; and/or complete our teams first then craft the best possible team of leftovers (at fair/average salaries) for team 12, then proceed with the season. I suppose someone with 2 computers and a new account could bid along with us but I'm not volunteering for that duty. i could alwyas drive myself crazy by winding up m.e.t.b.o.t. for the task. i would have him running off a separate data set from my own, namely espn's fantasy baseball value calculator. in fact, i've already pulled that data. i would have him bid up to the proscribed value for a player, but no higher, and only for players that would help him fill out a legal roster. when it's his turn to nominate a player, i would have him nominate the highest dollar-value player on his sheet in a position that he needs to fill a legal roster. and of course, he would not be able to spend more than he has available to spend. i would also establish a budget for him so that he doesn't blow his entire budget in the first five picks. basically, i would prevent him from getting, say, six $30 players and tapping his budget, if there were $30 players even left on the board. basically, i could give him budget slots to fill. like, off hte top of my head, three players from $20-25, three players from 15-20, five players from 10-15, so on and so forth. this would need to be worked out still, of course. the above was just a theoretical construct for discussion purposes. and everything i set up for him i would post on teh board for public consumption and maximum transparency. for sake of discussion, i've got dollar values set for a 12-team league, with 22 hitters and 18 pitchers, $400 budget, 65% spent on hitters. stats are as in our league except pithers' homer allowed replaces HR/9, as that stat is unavailable. it would place him at a slight disdvantage, but it's better than if i were using a typical 5x5 dollar value set. like i said, i could do this, and it would almost be a fun intellectual exercise. but if we just want to let the team sit idle, i'm good with that too. it would save me a bunch of trouble!
  13. yeah. it would be different if someone had chosen to run their draft that way. i think the best would be to retain fman's players for whoever picks up his team after the conclusion of the draft.
  14. run a poll, perchance?
  15. the problem is that, flush with cash, he can take all teh remaining good players, quash any bargains, and snatch any prospect. he can afford to outbid all of us on anyone, and there's nothing to lose. mostly though, it's just that its an entirely different variable that's being thrown into the draft equation. he's playing with a different set of rules than the rest of us. not that it's his fault or that there's anything we can do about it, or that it will ultimately matter. hell, i'm sure there are people out there who draft with exactly this strategy - get a few stars and disappear, let everybody overpay for the top of the market, and then load up for bear on the bargains. it causes me great uncertainty. and that i do not like. i'm going to have a hard enough time sneaking bargains pas the lot of you all. but a guy with a full wallet - sheesh!
  16. i'm flying solo with minimm tonight. i'm hoping to get him to bed in time for the draft, and hte 8:45 start helps. if i'm not there, start without me. i'm very nervous about hte dynamic hte new player will bring, flush with fman's cash.
  17. welcome abordick!
  18. fair enough, though the clicking on the guy thing can use up the majority of your 15 seconds of bidding time... figured i'd throw it out there. ultimately i blame the interface. it could be so much better. so. very. much. i get that it's minimalist, and what not, but it's minimalism interferes with its functionality, imo.
  19. ah, yes. it helps if i'm logged in. ... realizing that i'm arguing for a friend here, but is it right that muddy chickens is saddled with a phantom nelson cruz, the middling reliever from the turn of the millenium, instead of the real nelson cruz, the rangers outfielder most of us thought we'd bid for as we ran him up to $20? is it within the powers of the commish to nullify that acquisition? unless the guy who nominated him knowingly threw a turd into the water in the hopes of baiting the whole lot of us. in which case, that player should be saddled with the fecal nelson cruz. i mean, either way, lesson learned for us all - at a minimmum make sure the guy has a team and/or position after his name! and if the commish lacks those powers, whatevs. i just think it's the right thing to do. i mean, if that was jose bautista, somebody would be royally fucked.
  20. we're not able to close the draft until he's got a legal roster are we? speaking of which, can you put the draft back on the schedule so that we can load up our respective watch lists, or does htat only happen once we're like 24 or 48 hours out?
  21. i know m.e.t.b.o.t. would love to play, but that might raise some conflict of interest concerns: "trade me hanley ramirez for mike pelfrey, or i find out if you'll blend, toaster"
  22. only guy i really reached for was kershaw so far, though given what we're paying for pitching, he might be a value. everyone else i got is fairly close to what i had them at. excet for pelfrey. my spreadsheet has him at, like, -$20 or so, but i think that could be a bit unfair.
  23. i agree. i was hoping to be smarter than the average bear, but got sucked into some of the frenzy. at least i didn't get the other nelson cruz... (since it's the off season, will he be droppable at no cost, presuming we start the league on time?) that's certainly a good reason to get the draft finished up on tuesday - so if we have any serious regret over any of our picks, we can drop them. presuming that i have a correct interpretation of the rules, of course.
  24. if you win, we all win
