  1. merrily, and with gusto.
  2. short of trading castillo and ollie for pujols and wainwright, like, tomorrow, how exactly can omar prove his case? i mean, what more can the gm do in late september that could have a meaningful bearing on any decision to retain or replace him? what could possibly happen in teh next two weeks that could reflect so mightily on a past decision that it would affect the perception of his tenure? and, really, the same goes for jerry, but to a lesser extent. anything the team does these next two weeks cannot possible outweigh the bulk of the evidence over the prior season-plus. hell, even if the mets were to win out the rest of their games, i would have a hard time bringing jerry back, for failing to keep the team sufficiently motivated and properly executed over the long haul.
  3. was frankie?
  4. holy shit. jay payton is still playing ball?
  5. all pro athletes are capable of that extreme laser-like focus, if only they were to care enough. or so i hear.
  6. "if there are Mets fans who don't know who Stewart Rahr is, they will soon enough. The Brooklyn-born billionaire -- a k a Stewie Rah Rah -- is donating $1,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation every time a Met hits a home run at CitiField, and $5,000 every time David Wright does, as he did on Opening Day. Later in the season will be "Home Rah Rah Day" with giveaways of Rahr's trademark yellow sunglasses." apparently, he's filthy rich, owns kinray, a privately owned pharma company, and also bought a $45M estate in the hamptons. he's well known for wearing bright yellow ray ban wayfarers. these are no ray bans.
  7. i know i'm jealous that i don't have one. all you people that don't have these beauties - i'm so jealous of you.
  8. Akso, mets!
  9. I'm so glad they went ahead with the sunglesses giveaway - these things are freakin' sweet!
  10. unfortunately it'll just be me. we all might be going to the game on the 19th, but we're not terribly sure yet.
  11. that sounds like something to aim for. looks like i'll be in 136 instead.
  12. nowhere yet. got my eye on section 103, stubhubbing for about $30 i think for row 3.
  13. late breaking news... it looks like i'll be able to get to the game tomorrow, 9/12. miracles do happen! where's everybody sitting?
  14. "And because it involved skipping a visit to amputees who serve the country, it inevitably will create backlash and make those players look particularly bad. They deserve that, too." well, shit. now i'm really curious as to who all goes on these trips each and every year. do other teams visit walter reed? who attends those visits? who sits out? if other teams don't elect to visit the wounded veterans, why not? when did jeter last visit a wounded vet? and arod? get the pitchforks and torches, folks, we're going a-mobbing!
  15. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I don't have a problem with what Castillo said. Disfigurations can give some people the Willies. i have absolutely no problem with luis castillo's position on this. none. it comes across as weak and cowardly, sure, but you don't know what's going on in a guy's own head sometimes. phobias, fears, willies. its just plain unfair to judge a person on such a basis. if luis is truly and deeply affected by this, as he says that he is, then i have no problem with his not going. i trust that he is telling the truth here. (has he been cowardly in his time with the mets?? i forget? how did he address the media after dropping the popup? does he stand up, or weasel and hide?) ollie? well. he's just dumb for non-commenting. granted, his teammates probably told him not to fucking come.
  16. team rodriguez may have a punchers chance...
  17. well, to be fair to ollie, he only says that he wants there to be a championship here, with him here as well. he makes no claims towards wanting to contribute or work towards it himself. if the team wins the championship while he's here, he still gets the ring.
  18. he's a villain, and he can do no right. as he's rounding first base, the thought probably crosses his mind that he's still going to be riding the bench to start the next game. and if he does make it into the batters box, the fans will likely still boo him. but no. he should've have pushed aside any thoughts regarding his own personal pride and his struggles to achieve, and whipped out his wallet, counted some bills, and smiled 26 million times, right? oh wait. no. he should care about the team winning. except in those instances where the team winning would be helped by his playing. in which case he should care about his money. which is why he's hurting the team. if only he were a robot, like all the other millionaires.
  19. aren't we always complaining about hte athlete who gets his money and then packs it in and stops caring or trying or bothering, since he's 'getting paid'? the athlete who'd seemingly be quite content to merely ride the bench between trips to the bank to check on his ever-increasing balance? ollie perez, for instance. here we have luis castillo. who could be perfectly content to just sit there on the bench and collect his paycheck and do nothing to earn it. motherfucker wants to play. the nerve.
  20. the newark bears and sussex skyhawks could (theoretically) win their way into the majors, displacing the royals and pirates who are losing their way out.
  21. in my wallet right now, i have 37 reasons to shut my yap. my pockets contain another sixty-two one-hundredths of a reason.
  22. nice butt-patt of the home plate ump by davis after scoring the winning run.
  23. i'm curious as to what the prescription for next year will be. aside, i mean, from just plain dumping ollie. will he demand a new closer? a new ace? carl crawford? what will his solutions for second base and right field be? what would he suggest we do with the remainder of our outfield? will the first step be anything other than gutting the front office and the coaching staff, save, perhaps, chip hale? would we keep jose reyes under the rubin plan, or will he attempt merely to drive up readership by throwing him into a volcano for compensatory draft picks?
