it would certainly help make them look more integral

to each his own. mfy3 is awash with adverts, to the point that the mfyldb's can't say shit about citi. but i think their scoreboard is a cleaner implementation of the ads upon ads upon ads. its the airspace between the ads on citi's board that makes them look all jumbly. again, like they were never intended to be there, but someone got a little too sell-happy, and they had to make do. the mfy's don't detract from teh stadium elements there because they occupy empty space. the citi ads occupy the space between teh structural / stylistic elements of the framework and supports of the board and the lights, and detract from it as such. why have the cool architectural lattice in the first place if all you're going to do is sandwich it between a bunch of ads? it is better that they replaced the construction equipment rental ads with the sharp ads. i'll grant you that.
-
if only we oculd better follow the yankees' lead on these things. they're all class. no extra ads. only the bare minimum. the important ones. the.. uh... 600x400http://blog.seattletimes.nwsource.com/mariners/yankees0630.jpg> yet somehow, citi looks slightly tackier. i think the big problem is that the ad spaces on the scoreboard at citi seem taked on. like the original space allotment wasn't enough, they needed more cash, so they just slapped up some more placards hanging off hte sides of the structure. oe, why does htat never work for me? i'd stick it in original size, but its about 3k pixels wide!

via email conversation with the owner of the red flyers. he emailed onnoneu about king felix' innings, which they decided to credit him. he asked then about the rest of the teams in hte league that were similarly affected, and the response was to have the commish send them an email with the affected teams. i assume telling them the affected players on those affected teams would only help matters.
-
apparently, anyone who had a player in the first game of the season, who was in their lineup the night of hte draft, but who was taken out of hte lineup when they were reset on the completion of the draft, can have their playing time reinstated, provided our esteemed commissioner sends an email to the kind folks at ottoneu with a list of all the player corrections to be made. while this gives us a chance to be retroactively picky in who we play, lets try to keep it honest. me, i had kurt suzuki ©, dustin ackley (MI) , and mike carp (OF) in the first game. yes, i'm taking credit for an 0-4 performance and a 1-5. frakkin' honesty.

wow. the first action scene on there looks like an awesome video game cutscene. seriously, aren't we to the point where we should be able to get our computer animators to make humans look like humans behaving like humans? fine, if you have to dumb it down to get it to run on the playstation. but there' s no processing power required for the big screen. just dump the fucking frames to the reel. you've got a big enough budget, i'm sure. buy an extra fucking processor to run the animation on.

Edgy DC wrote: metsmarathon wrote: the main scoreboard at citi is about 33% scoreboard, 67% ads. the right field scoreboard is worse, seemingly around 25% scoreboard, 75% ads. As sadly true as this is, it was true in the latter years at Shea too. i estimate that to be about 5/8 ads, 3/8 scoreboard. i consider hte three scoreboard panels to be roughly the same size. if each one is A, the total scoreboard area is 3*A. the bud sign is twice as big as one of those, so 2*A. the HIP/chase/mohegan ribbon on the bottom is another equivalent area, A. the wendy's sign is about 2/5 A, plus its match on the other side, is 4/5 A. and the pepsi banners, which we'll count as well, are about 2/3 A each. after some math, we get 5 2/15 A for ads, and 3 A for scoreboards. 37% scoreboard is somewhat better than the main scoreboard at citi, and far better than the right field board.

the main scoreboard at citi is about 33% scoreboard, 67% ads. the right field scoreboard is worse, seemingly around 25% scoreboard, 75% ads. at least the out of town scoreboard fares better, at about equal size relative to the larger ads above them (which may not be considered part of htat scoreboard anyways). the arrangement of the citi scoreboards is that of disunity, and also serves to detract from the structural design elements of hte stadium, such as the latticeowrk supporting the lights and hte scoreboard itself. and in day time, it's pretty hard to tell what part of hte two main scoreboards you need to be looking at to discren useful information. the marlins board is frakkin' huge, and dead center. it is designed to focus your socoreborard viewing attention on the information which it contains, not to cause your eye to wander over innumerable advertisements in the hopes of finding game information. nd while the images might be preliminary or misleading, it appears from teh marlins website that the white spaces next to the marlins scoreboard may be illuminated or backlit, as the website shows it in a graded teal fade. and even if they were to give over to ad space, they would still represent a fraction (1/4 perhaps) of the overall available scoreboard space, as they are significantly smaller than the scoreboard display. furthermore, by adhering to the trapezoidal format, the ads there would become part of the design, instead of some stuipid square or rectangle that could be made to fit, and made to be put, anywhere, with no sense of aesthetics or unity.

oh, good. i had some nice dustin ackley offense in the first game that i wouldn't mind getting credit for. also, i did indeed confirm, through the help of my little metallic friend, that initiating an auction for a player does indeed obligate you to bid the minimum $1, regardless of whether you actually place the $1 bid, or even if you subsequently delete it (or a higher value).
-
i wish i could say that i'm shocked by that mindset. it's just unfathomable. i don't care who you are, how old you are, what your gender or orientation is, or how good you look, and i certainly don't care about the identiy, age, gender, or appearance of the aggressor. there is simply no point in your life when non-consensual sexual contact is not a deeply troubling, life-altering thing. and if you can't see that when the victim is 8 and the aggressor is in a position of authority, be it only a teenage babysitter, you're fucking blind. at no point does any victim of rape look back upon the incident and think, "dude, that was fucking awesome! i got me some fucking pussy!!" fools.

man, i am so fried from last night! getting a bunch of gears and springs and rubber bands to interface with an iphone is not easy. i would've had the 'bot use a second computer, but i forgot to bring a laptop cord home. i lost track of what i was doing for my own team, and overspent in the early goings last night, leaving me with no flexibility to get my steals last night. so often i had a guy i wanted, nominated him, and lost him 'cos i couldn't go to $3 for him. and there were a few players i lost because i though i was clicking on the bid button, but was only just selecting hte window. argh! i'm sure others had difficulties, and these were all of my own doing. but still. what a chore!

so what would be the point of me putting a plyer into my minor leagues?

Ottoneu 12th man - ditch or let it ride?
metsmarathon replied to Ceetar's topic in Crane Pool Forum Fantasy League
it is done. ive got the following bins set up for player salaries: $bin # slots 30-39 1 25-29 2 20-24 3 15-19 3 10-14 5 7-9 4 5-6 5 3-4 6 1-2 5 0 ($1) 3 -1 ($1) 3 hanley ramirez fills the top bin. there is only one player left on m.e.t.b.o.t.' s data sheet that fits into the 25-29 bin, so that unused slot will move down to the 20-24 range. if m.e.t.b.o.t. is unable to acquire the remaining player he has valued at $25-$29, that wil free up another slot in the $20-$24 range, to a total of 5 slots. this approach will be used throughout the draft. the bottom two bins are both for $1 players. m.e.t.b.o.t. will not bid on any players who have a negative value on his spreadsheet. -

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I'd probably prefer we go with 11; and/or complete our teams first then craft the best possible team of leftovers (at fair/average salaries) for team 12, then proceed with the season. I suppose someone with 2 computers and a new account could bid along with us but I'm not volunteering for that duty. i could alwyas drive myself crazy by winding up m.e.t.b.o.t. for the task. i would have him running off a separate data set from my own, namely espn's fantasy baseball value calculator. in fact, i've already pulled that data. i would have him bid up to the proscribed value for a player, but no higher, and only for players that would help him fill out a legal roster. when it's his turn to nominate a player, i would have him nominate the highest dollar-value player on his sheet in a position that he needs to fill a legal roster. and of course, he would not be able to spend more than he has available to spend. i would also establish a budget for him so that he doesn't blow his entire budget in the first five picks. basically, i would prevent him from getting, say, six $30 players and tapping his budget, if there were $30 players even left on the board. basically, i could give him budget slots to fill. like, off hte top of my head, three players from $20-25, three players from 15-20, five players from 10-15, so on and so forth. this would need to be worked out still, of course. the above was just a theoretical construct for discussion purposes. and everything i set up for him i would post on teh board for public consumption and maximum transparency. for sake of discussion, i've got dollar values set for a 12-team league, with 22 hitters and 18 pitchers, $400 budget, 65% spent on hitters. stats are as in our league except pithers' homer allowed replaces HR/9, as that stat is unavailable. it would place him at a slight disdvantage, but it's better than if i were using a typical 5x5 dollar value set. like i said, i could do this, and it would almost be a fun intellectual exercise. but if we just want to let the team sit idle, i'm good with that too. it would save me a bunch of trouble! -
yeah. it would be different if someone had chosen to run their draft that way. i think the best would be to retain fman's players for whoever picks up his team after the conclusion of the draft.
-
run a poll, perchance?

the problem is that, flush with cash, he can take all teh remaining good players, quash any bargains, and snatch any prospect. he can afford to outbid all of us on anyone, and there's nothing to lose. mostly though, it's just that its an entirely different variable that's being thrown into the draft equation. he's playing with a different set of rules than the rest of us. not that it's his fault or that there's anything we can do about it, or that it will ultimately matter. hell, i'm sure there are people out there who draft with exactly this strategy - get a few stars and disappear, let everybody overpay for the top of the market, and then load up for bear on the bargains. it causes me great uncertainty. and that i do not like. i'm going to have a hard enough time sneaking bargains pas the lot of you all. but a guy with a full wallet - sheesh!
-
i'm flying solo with minimm tonight. i'm hoping to get him to bed in time for the draft, and hte 8:45 start helps. if i'm not there, start without me. i'm very nervous about hte dynamic hte new player will bring, flush with fman's cash.

82 - 80 third no playoffs no playoffs i believe the NL east to be in a spectacularly transitional mode this year, with no team really stepping up and taking the reins. i expect miami to be a mess, the braves and nats to be competitive, and the phillies to get old. i think the mets will be in the thick of things, to some extent, and will at least keep the season interesting. or i need my coffee and am hallucinating from a decaffeinated monday morning. whichev's.

epic. gloriously epic.
