  1. it's not just that shadowless is a classic look - it's that it's a clean look. a crisp look. the blue and orange pop more without the black, though i'm sure htat was its original intent. the mercury mets thing... well... i don't really recall what i thought at the time. but it's kinda like the mets started gooing off in teh wrong direction from everybody else, and teh rest of hte league was too busy laughing their asses off at hte buffoons to reel them in. it's too bad, too, cos based on teh other uniforms (like the bucs'), it would've been fucking awesome if they went with a turn ahead the clock style uniform in white with a big ol' mr. met head on it. fucking a.w.e.s.o.m.e. envision it. i dare you. now you will want it. i know this because i want it. with racing stripes on the weird shoulder panel things. (i wish hte mets would bring back the racing stripes. they were the cats' pajamas)

These are little touches. i dunno.. its kinda like if htey'd only designed half a black hat for the apple to come out of, and you could see the mechanicals from behind it. or if the big ol' 42 and a big ol' angle iron holding it in place at the bottom. really, it's as if it was designed never to be seen from behind, only they placed it in the stadium such that it could. they are little touches, sure, and they're much more the fault of the artist, who clearly forgot that people could see the back of his spectacle, rather than the marlins. i'm just really surprised by it, is all. i get that nobody really ever looks at the back of a painting, but this is a 3-d structural work, meant to be seen from all angles. the artist should be ashamed that it came out looking so unfinished. this is more than a stairwell needing some fresh paint, or some signage late to come up. these are large parts that surely would be a pain to install in a working ballpark. maybe they got delayed, i guess, and will be slapped in on a long road trip...
  3. i'm really kindof shocked that all the structural bits of the miami spectacle are exposed, and that they're so inartfully done. it's like they built the art pieces and then decided to make it move. and then when they built it it fell down, so they had to tack on some additional structural supports. i don't understand why the mechanism for the jumping flipping marlin is exposed like that, especially since behind it is a prime pedestrian space. if it was up against a wall where only maintenance folk could see it, fine, but this way, it's only art from one side. the tacked on support bars on the orange bit are especially bad. that could easily have been built into the structure, or at least better hidden. shit, paint it orange on the back at least. it just looks like they panicked and grabbed whatever leftover structural members thay had lying around the worksite.
  4. or they could give us a bigger screen there. lousy cheapass wilpons.

  7. i must confess that i'm partly with willets here in that i really hate that the second someone says something that is collectively disliked, the collective starts calling for him to be fired. fire don imus! fire rush limbaugh! fire ozzie guillen! society falls all over itself trying to punish, to force those opinions with which it most vehemently disagrees to be repressed and bottled up like poison, when it should go out of its way to convince, to illuminate, to free from misapprehension those who have been misapprehended. i don't know what the marlins are doing, but it would be more effective to have guillen being putting in time in an outreach capacity - working with those who have been most and greatest affected - so that he can see why he should not admire castro. and that while castro may show exceptional resillience, that quality of resillience is even more admirably demonstrated by the people whose lives he has so greatly and negatively affected - those who flee on boats to find freedom, and those who remain to one day reclaim their great island nation. of course, our last manager went on and on about gangsta blah blah blah. we should have been more outraged and embarrassed about that. what is so noble about criminals, particulalry those who prey on the weak and the powerless? you know what i like about abusive drunks? they're men of action, not just words. you know what i like about drunk drivers? even when they're not at their best, they still give it a go. what the fuck ever happened to real heroes? i think i've strayed here...
  8. i need edgy to write up all of my public releases from now on. bravo.

  13. you can probably take the 'bot's spot next year.
  14. it's definitely clunky and ugly, especially compared to espn and yahoo. and if we only do it for this year, it's going to suck. but i like the power of hte auction drafts and the minor league rosters and the machinations for the cap. i think it's really hard to say how it works until we get through the second year, but so far, a week in, i like it. it would be nice if player news was easier to get to, if at all, but whatev's. it's novel and new and way more hardcore than a casual yahoo thing. also, with the personal investment that each of us had towards the auction, it's hopefully less likely htat we'll have as much fallout as you might see in a typical yahoo league.
  15. well, i needed an outfielder to replace andres torres...

  18. i'm so confused. that was just a ONE-game series against the cards? wtf?! tonight the fish play the reds in cincinnati? did anyone else know about this? the metsies don't have any 1-gamers this year, do they? (i just checked and couldn't find anything) do either the fish or the cards?

  22. having been to both, i like citi better than that other place in the city. i just think it could have been better. they did a good job with the architectural details on the metal work in the outfield / scoreboard area, and i really like the bridge, but on the intereior of the stadium, it's fairly lacking, and feels cramped. i don't know that it could be better, of course, it just felt plain on the inside. and the staricases are utterly dreary. say what you will, the rotunda is nicely done for what it is, and i like hte exterior. i love that the marlins went modern. we need more modern, stylish baseball stadiums. oh, apparently, the new marlins park plays big, or at least it played big yesterday for stanton, who hit a pair of 400-ft bombs that found the outfielders' glove. i wonder how much that will play in to the way their season unfolds. the bigness of citi sure had been blamed for many of the metsies' ills, hadn't it?

  24. it's too bad they couldn't grow the grass to be the same color as the walls. right now they kinda clash. and i like the way the ad names float by the scoreboard. it's all about getting ht name out there anyways. a distracting ad for miccosukee might show me more of what they're all about, but hte name actually makes me want to google it. and now i know it's a indian casino resort thing. better than a big ugle square or rectangle ad thing. like the stanley ad on the wall there. yeesh.
  25. sweet! time to dust off my improbably unweildy spreadsheet!
