  1. if people don't want to hang out for the whole thing, so be it, provided it can auto draft. besides, would we really want to waste a second night just to draft those 30 rounds of AA players none of us have ever heard of?
  2. in. any format. each is appealing in its own way. points rewards player goodness over roster strategy, and i waffle on whether thats a good or a bad thing. its less challenging in some ways, but also levels the playing field for those who are not hard-core fantasizers.
  3. yes. i suppose the wilpons/katzes could argue that when their top ranked corporate office in charge of investigating their investments told them that their investments were in a bogus fund that was either fraudulent or criminal, they should have either listened or comprehended, but did not. if ignoring what someone is telling you is a defense against knowing something, then i guess they could be found faultless. rather, i think that "should have known" means that they should have suspected it but did nothing to investigate nor were ever told by anybody who did any investigating. "knowing" means either learning it oneself or being told it. when she told them that the activity was not above board, at that point, they transitioned from "should have known" to "knowing" if i tell minimm that he's not allowed to draw on the furniture, and he puts crayon to sofa, i am correct in scolding him "you know you're not supposed to write on the couch."
  4. she was the chief investment officer for sterling stamos. she smeleed something fishy about merkin, and madoff too, and reported it to her bosses. she suspected either fraud or illegal activities, either of which sterling stamos shoud have steered clear of, and instead they went all-in. she's clearly an expert, or she likely would not be in the chief investment officering business. i guess the big question is whether she has credibility in whether or not she actually told the katzes what she says she told them. but she certainly has the credibility in that she has the wherewithal to smell a rat and report on it. that rat is the fucking wilpons and fucking katzes. fuck them all. get htem the fuck away from my team.
  5. no, she's saying "i told thm back then that it was crooked, and likely a big scam, and they kept pouring more money into it" that's pretty fucking damning.
  6. ok. i gotcha. you pick the players in the order that you pick the cards out of the pack. i was thinking you rip open the pack, order the players, and go from there. your way is much more evil.
  7. i like it as an alternate league. i worry that it might be very challenging to fill a complete/decent roster with a 36-pack. plus the issue of series one vs. series two. draft order would have to be randomly assigned, and i think that as long as any player challenges could be met with a photo of all the cards in the pack, we'd be fine. i would suggest that the players in your pack who you do not draft are available to you as the year goes on. you may pick up any of those players as a free agent, provided you have their card. the player you drop may only be acquired by another team if they also hold the player's card. and what about if you get a team checklist, or manager card, or what not? can you then pick any player on that team? (i kindof like that idea - a checklist type card would allow you to select anyone listed , but you may only use that card in the last round of the draft). any feature cards like league leaders or all stars which feature multiple players would count as regular cards. (or would they be single use cards? if your card has, say, three guys on it, can you pick up any three or only one of the three?)

  9. the 1050 signal is so bad, in my old apartment in parsippany, i'd often get stronger signal from the ottawa(?) station that shares the same frequency. that's fucking bullshit.
  10. awful. here's hoping it's but a bump on the long road to a successful recovery. a wake up call, perhaps.
  11. looks like it could be an interesting thing to try. i'm certain there'll be a significant benefit to anyone whose ever played a auction draft before, and an even more significant benefit to anyone who won't have a munchkin nipping at their heels all night long. the draft will be like herding cats, i'm sure. but what the heck. i have a title to defend.
  12. mets bear was so sad that his friend was missing... 42. Mets Bear Misses His Friend by twenny6point2, on Flickr but he showed up at the door this afternoon, looking none the worse for wear. happiness ensued. 43. Hooray, Mr. Met! by twenny6point2, on Flickr thank you so much tmf, and the whole lot of you folks!
  13. that thing is glorious. in a way.
  14. Edgy DC wrote: metsmarathon wrote: and lets please not confuse the jersey shore with new jersey. ever. Yeah, get it right. The real New Jersey is an amalgam of The Sopranos, Charles in Charge, and Aqua Teen Hunger Force, with a lumpy helping of Stand by Your Man, the short lived but visceral Rosie O'Donnell/Melissa Gilbert FOX vehicle. the sopranos are from jersey. it's different.
  15. houston sams
  16. houston rodeo that's all i got.

I don't mind being from Jersey, I just want to make sure they know it's NY Jersey, not Philly Jersey. ew. So where's the New Jersey Jersey? I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. Like that lol.....(Sussex County) the real new jersey jersey can be found north of 78, and west of 287. i would even argue that the eastern and southern bouandaries could extend to the parkway and route 1, respectively, but no farther. if you're south of 1 you're in the no man's land of the turnpike corridor, and then you're into the philly-infused areas. up north, well, hudson, essex, and bergen counties are close enough to the city that you could refer to yourself as being from that area, but really, once you start to climb first mountain, you've gone far enough to no longer just be across the bridge. and lets please not confuse the jersey shore with new jersey. ever.
  18. the undead are still dead. they're just more lively. also, good for johnny.
  19. sooner rather than later, mrs.mm and i are going to have ot make a very special trip to build-a-bear to craft up a duplicate for woof-woof. the poor little doggy has only been in minimm's clutches for half a year, and i'm shocked that he's still in one piece. pantsless, hatless, and skateboardless, but still in one piece. also, tmf has an exact match. subversive black uni, floppy black hat. i owe y'all a running shirt design... nay, i owe y'all running shirts. thank you all so much!
  20. you guys are awesome! the fman/edgy misters are good matches. the only difference is the uni, which i think is easily explained. they're the right size/style i'll wait to see what you have, tmf. the matchier the better! as an aside, i am now highly motivated to finish that running shirt design...
  21. he's asked about him once or twice since. the killer is that minimm has just moved up into a new class at day care. he's played with the kids in the class before, and one of his friends move up with him, but he left behind about 3 close little munchkin friends his exact age that he's been with for a year and a half, and a few others he's been playing with that are a couple of months behind. oh, and at the same exact time he moved into this class, he finally chewed through his final pacifier, and has been off it since. he's been very upset lately when we drop him off and i think its because he doesnt get to play with his friends or see the teachers that he liked so much. and monday, after we dropped him off, mrs.mm and i discussed that maybe if we let him bring in mr. met with him, he'd feel better, and mr. met could be his little security blanket. that was when we started thinking, hey, where is mr. met anyways? the only other toy he has that'd warrant this much attention is woof-woof. any other stuffed animal, doll, whatever, and i wouldn't care. i wouldn't have spent the night scouring northwest jersey. this is different. this is mr. met.
  22. i am the worst met parent ever. i'm pretty sure i left mr. met, pictured below in happier times, on the roof of my car as i drove home from a party at my mom's house on sunday. i thinnk i put him on the roof as i was moving stuff around in the back seat, and enver brought him back in. there are incriminating smudge marks on the roof that lead me to this suspicion. sunday was also the last time i know that i saw him. and we've been looking since monday night. its an extremely tight window wherein he could have gone off the reservation. 20120113-34304 by twenny6point2, on Flickr 20120113-34308 by twenny6point2, on Flickr i just drove to my mom's house, walked a mile in the dark along the roads leading away from her house, drove over those same roads about three more times, and drove back. no sign. not helping matters was that today was garbage day. fuck. fuck. and triple fuck. i hoped to find him still soggy from the rain on monday, and maybe a bit battered. but nothing. worse, he's no longer available for sale in the mets store. honestly, i'm not even sure when i got him. he could be half a decade old for all i know, or more. but i thought minimm would like him, and boy was i right. he was his second most favorite toy, behind only his beloved woof-woof, and it made me so proud that mid kid loved mr. met. he referred to the two of them as his friends. barely two years old and he was a solid mets fan already. there's not even a mr. met on ebay. i thought for sure he'd be on ebay. no luck. not a single one. and so i turn to you kindly folk. if y'all have even a hint of a whisper of a ghost of an idea as to where i can turn to for a new mr. met, i would be forever grateful if you could pm me. thanks muchly. pay no attention to the grown man whimpering in the corner.
  23. it's not. making and avoiding outs is the object of baseball.
  24. Among Mets, Ordonez has to win this one going away over contenders like Flynn, given the offensive context in which he was putting up these numbers, doesn't he? Plus, there's plenty like him-- the Belliards and Cedenos and Santanas and Folis and such. But, of course, we can standardize for that. Career OPS+ Flynn: 57 Ordez: 59 Do we give guys like Alex Rios (.227/.265/.348 over 570 PA last year) or Vernon Wells (.218/.248/.412 over 529 PA) "extra credit" for being corner outfielders? It feels like we should. Sure, but they're not career-long strugglers. doug flynn, with a career 4085 plate appearances, rates at -75 offensive runs above replacement, or 7.9 offensive wins above replacement. normalized to 600 pa, that comes out to -11oRAR and -1.16 oWAR per 600 pa season. with teh mets he was -10 oRAR/600pa and -1.08 oWAR/600pa rey ordonez, with a career 3407 pa rates at -50 oRAR or -5.0 oWAR. normalized per 600pa, he's at -8.8 oRAR/600pa and 0.88 oWAR/600pa. however, his one good year with tampa masks his awfulness with the mets. in his 3216 metly pa, he was -58 oRAR. normalized, he's down at -10.8 oRAR/600 and -1.08 oWAR/600 so for his career, rey was a little better. as a met, they were equally horrid, with a slim edge going to rey0 rios was -10 oRAR last year. wells was +2. in 1996, reyes put up a -16 oRAR. in a scant 391 plate appearances. not to be outdone, in '77, flynn logged a -16 oRAR in a meager 333 plate appearances. suck it alex rios! for his career, and using bbref's numbers, rey's glove was worth 0.6 wins more than what his bat cost, leaving him with a career 0.6 WAR..
