  1. Uncle Steve could do that right now if he wanted to. Shoot Benjamins instead of t-shirts into the crowd. Makes more sense than signing Joey Wendle or Omar Narvaez.
  2. MLB made you buy the tickets through Ticketmaster UK, so I'm surprised it wasn't 100%.
  3. Boy, having also been there, I have a pretty different take. This was not for the Brits- there were random locals there but it was almost purely Americans. If MLB is looking to expand their footprint this isn't the place to do it. If they wanted a young diverse European crowd, what they got was a crowd that skewed older, white and American, with some families as well. In other words, very much like a game at Citizens Bank Park. There were people with all sorts of jerseys, but even they were mostly Americans. I see people wearing Marlins jerseys at Mets games against the Pirates, too. This is speaking from left-center field. (Section 239). It was a great experience and the last game was spine-tingling. But it's just a junket for Americans. In places like Mexico, San Juan, the DR or even Japan and Korea, it's a different story because the locals actally care about the sport. Not here. Your kilometers may vary.

  5. Mets fans went from agony to ecstasy in abour two seconds. The train ride was delicious, full of silent Philly fans and Met fans with shit-eating grins, passing knowing glances that we got away with one today. Glad I was over here so I didn't have to listen to Michael Kay. He's a proper toffer, that one.

  7. Of course, we all know this just sets up the late-inning crushing bullpen collapse......

Everyone else was American. Definitely a Philly crowd. Whatcha eat yesterday? Pulled pork BBQ sandwich and fries, not bad. They were making a big effort to 'Americanize' the food. They had an enormously long hot dog that I wasn't about to try. And yes, no interest from the British general public Not on the news or anything.

  10. =Gwreck post_id=158399 time=1717885213 user_id=56] Of those who appeared affiliated, probably 70% Phillies fans. Some vocal contingent behind the Mets dugout and plenty of cheers when they scored first but not much of a home field advantage. Foul territory was not as expansive as perhaps feared, and certainly less than, say, Oakland. The screens, however, were really excessive. Almost no foul balls made it into the seats, and was largely impossible for players to throw balls into the stands. Mike, David, and Mookie all prominently sitting in the first row of the boxes behind the Mets dugout was nice to see. Scoreboards were surprisingly small for a stadium built in 2012. Sure, we're spoiled at Citi Field but key information (pitch velocity) was missing. Fan engagement seemed good and overheard more than once that the pitch clock is a good thing. Did not see a single person keeping score (other than me). All in all, a lot of fun despite a poor performance from the Mets. Here's hoping for a split tomorrow.
