  1. 15/60 .255. Good, but not so good that he keeps Plawecki down in Vegas.
  2. Kid has been busting his ass to get ready for this year and I'm betting he'll be a pleasant surprise. He'll probably be batting 8th at the start of the season, but that won't last long. 17/70/.275. He's no Reyes, but he'll make the routine plays.
  3. They're not going to be relevant and get more space in the Times until they're better than the Yankees. This might be the year that happens, more because the Yankees are so screwed up than it is because the Mets are so good....
  4. Traded in a package with Gee in Spring Training.
  5. Benjamin Grimm wrote: He'll take over the closer job by August 1, if not sooner. 13 saves, mostly in the second half of the season. Six wins. This. Parnell won't be ready to be a full-time closer and Jenrry will be too inconsistent. He'll handle the 8th until about June, then slide into the closer role. 3-1, 2.08, 1.12 WHIP, 18 saves.
  6. One-batter guys don't get 15 decisions. 1-3, 2.60 ERA 1.15 WHIP and a random save.
  7. Teams didn't catch up to him the second time around, so I think he'll be okay. Playing for an 81-win team with a spotty offense will hinder him, win-column-wise, though. 13-8, 3.46, lots of ND's.
  8. Edgy MD wrote: PREDICT!! Seriously, man, these threads are about money on the table. 50 games. 3/25/.250 (pushes chips in)
  9. Dear Mr. Varitek: Please allow me to apologize for letting my face get in the way of those strong, burly hands. Alex
  10. Not exactly sure what beard-wearing brings to the table except to scream, "I have ample levels of testosterone!". Vic Black's beard looks like something you'd buy in a novelty store for $2.99, for one thing.
  11. And that's the real fun of this, and of A-Rod in general. He's an enormous distraction. He's such a fart in a crowded room. I hope he plays just well enough for the Yankees to not buy out his contract. I want three more years of this. I want Willie Mays to say he hit 660 home runs on milkshakes and peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, when the time comes. I want A-Rod to keep saying self-obsessed stuff and appear in the headlines. Because, yes, this drives MFY fans crazy. So give me more.

  13. Can't predict, but I have a bad feeling about this one.

  15. Insert 'Bob Costas' for 'the baseball version of Oprah' and you've got it.
  16. d'Kong76 wrote: I'm kinda serious about Kranepool... he played 18 years in one uniform. I think we'd be hard pressed to find someone in any sport that donned the same laundry for that long and doesn't have a retired number hanging around in tribute. Um, no. That he hung around for 18 years is more an indictment of the inability to have good-hitting teams that could survive without him.
  17. Chucks it all and returns to running his orchesta.
  18. Couldn't steal first base. Nice guy, won't be missed.
  19. Makes the team. He's the only realistic 3B backup. Modest production. 2/20/.260 in 150 AB.
  20. He was born in Michigan? Yankee fans thought he was born in a manger.
  21. What will he bring to the table? Liver, fava beans and a fine chianti.
  22. I guess 'high-wasted' runs in the family.
  23. And I would say the second most key would be Wilmer Flores. If he actually hits and his fielding is at least passable, it gives this lineup a jolt. If his fielding is horrible, it probably won't matter what he hits. So here's hoping for competence in the field and some flash with the bat.
  24. If I were a Wilpon, I'd sell the team immediately. But, alas.
