  1. The opening lines: Cool as marble, choosing bemusement over anger, Derek Jeter is playing defense from behind a desk. It’s a new position for the former Yankees shortstop. Not really. He ALWAYS played defense like he was sitting behind a desk.
  2. Or he's wearing an incredibly tight girdle that will explode one day when he bends down to field a grounder.
  3. Looks like a flak vest to protect the rib cage. Or he ate the buffet table. Also looks like Jake finally cut deHair.
  4. Yeah, it's got to be walkable. I've been to the Cards thing and it's pretty nice. They have a clean slate across the street from Citi so there are things they can do if they don't screw it up. But with the Wilpons involved, who knows.
  5. Chewing tobacco, more likely.
  6. Matt Reynolds, white courtesy phone.....
  7. Boy, you could put together a damned good team from that unsigned talent.
  8. This. A-Gon's pittance of a salary removes the financial consideration from the table, always a big factor when deciding personnel moves with this team.
  9. You get the feeling that this is going to be an ongoing thing for Dom. If he can't keep his weight down at 22, the long-term prognosis is cloudy. With a chance of Meatballs.

  11. Getting better, anyway.
  12. It's a definite improvement. He just better not hit .213 again. This is basically sayonara to Wright, not that I ever expected him to come back. Lots of jangly pieces on this roster- Cabrera, Reyes, Flores, Gonzales. Hope Callaway finds a way to make everything fit.
  13. So if I was a fan of a normal team, I would say "Cool. We can swoop in and get some FA's on the cheap and really build up our roster." Alas, I'm a fan of the Mets, and they'll find a way to f it up.
  14. Benjamin Grimm wrote: He seemed like he enjoyed his time here. "Yeah, I was in the Show. I was in the Show for 21 days once. Twenty-one greatest days of my life. You know, you never handle your luggage in the Show. Somebody else carries your bags. It's great. You hit white balls for batting practice. Ballparks are like cathedrals. The hotels all have room service. The women all have long legs and brains."
  15. Filled the 'we have too many injuries and no decent outfielders in the minors so we have to have a body to put out there' role adequately.
  16. I needed ett gott skratt this morning.
  17. Getting rid of Wahoo took this long, it'll probably be 2050 before they get rid of 'Indians'.
  18. Yay! https://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/2018-organizational-talent-rankings/?utm_content=buffer7a6a4&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer#wPAgyzs8AiU4zxZy.97
  19. I've never seen a team that manages the disabled list worse than the Mets. And this pre-dates Sandy and Terry. 1) A guy gets injured. 2) You don't play him for a few days but don't put him on the DL, thereby playing essentially with a 24-man roster. 3) You play the guy after a few days and he's rusty/awkward. Questions arise, but you still don't put him on the DL, saying he'll be back in a few days. You're still playing short-handed. 4) A few days later you play him but he looks hurt or aggravates the condition. 5) Finally you put him on the disabled list. The number of times the Mets have gone through this process are too numerous to count. How many times have we heard 'The Mets really only have a 3-man bench tonight'?
  20. Vic Sage wrote: i'll believe it when I see it. something about the Mets bench makes managers stupid. This. I'll believe in Callaway when I see how he actually manages a game over the course of the season.
  21. I would imagine that Wright will give it a go in spring training, find out fairly early that it's not going to work, and hold a teary press conference announcing his retirement. I take no joy in that prediction.
  22. Maja grows impatient at our foolish American indecisiveness.
  23. Opening day, when there was so much hope, and a nice win. Thor going down was the critical turning point of the season and we all kind of knew it right then. It was by far the most important event of the year, but I hated it. I will therefore live in my LaLaLand of Hope.

  25. Centerfield wrote: He passed his physical. That means he's totally healthy right? Did Ray Ramirez administer it? If so, all bets are off.
