  1. First half squirrel was a good leadoff hitter (could have walked more but a .409 OBP is nothing to sneeze at). Second-half squirrel was a more of a 5 hitter. I think first-half squirrel is more useful in the team context. They have other guys to punish baseballs.
  2. From the immortal Ball Four: Now, the Astros are a team that likes to go out on the town, We like to drink and fight and fuck till curfew comes around Then it's time to make the trek, We better be back to Buddy's check, It makes a fellow proud to be an Astro. Now, Edwards is our catcher and he's really No. 1, Dave Bristol said he drinks too much and calls some long home runs, But we think John will be all right, If we keep him in his room at night, It makes a fellow proud to be an Astro. Now, our pitching staff's composed of guys who think they're 'pretty cool,' With a case of Scotch, a greenie and an old beat-up whirlpool, We'll make the other hitters laugh, Then calmly break their bats in half, It makes a fellow proud to be an Astro. Now, Harry Walker is the one that manages this crew, He doesn't like it when we drink and fight and smoke and screw, But when we win our game each day, Then what the fuck can Harry say? It makes a fellow proud to be an Astro. Now let's go pound some Budweiser.
  3. =41Forever post_id=24159 time=1570711889 user_id=69] I'm ok with the Cards. Bryce Harper must be kicking himself. Or, he's so busy trying to spend $300 million that he doesn't care.
  4. Ugh. Only thing worse would have been Braves-Nats, I guess. Time to catch up on the DVR.
  5. Espada. I know almost nothing about him but four things stand out. 1) He works for AJ Hinch in Houston, and Brodie and Hinch are very tight. 2) He'll come cheaply, so the Wilpons will like him. 3) He's not a name that will be battling for control of the headlines like Girardi or Showalter would. 4) He has no Yankee history like the two above. But I'm not making the decisions. They'll probably go with a 'safe' choice like Girardi and regret it.
  6. Can Aaron Heilman pitch for the Braves in Game 5? Asking for a friend.
  7. =Centerfield post_id=23975 time=1570539050 user_id=65] Astros need to TCoFB today.

Because if you're going to be denied happiness no matter what the outcome, at least you get to see pissed-off fans, crushed entitlements, and crying children, which is pretty much the next best thing. I watched that 9th inning meltdown and even though I hate the Braves, the shell-shocked Cardinal fans and the church-quiet stadium were a thing of beauty.
  9. I fear it'll be more of the same.... https://i5.walmartimages.com/asr/4b8596da-194e-4ebb-af07-06e645363424_1.3173ebaf478abbf2819885beec13f46a.jpeg?odnHeight=450&odnWidth=450&odnBg=FFFFFF>
  10. =Ceetar post_id=23654 time=1570126965 user_id=102] clean house, fresh staff, imo. I mean, I guess I like Regan but I don't think he was going to be staying anyway?
  11. Well, not a surprise. Mickey was in over his head during the game. They brought Riggleman in this year and it didn't get better. Potential hires would already be aware of the 'Wilpon factor', so I wouldn't expect a big name to take the job. A guy like Girardi would probably last until mid-April.
  12. So happy to steal this one from a MFY. Alonso's too good to be true, but he is.
  13. Super Joe would be cool.
  14. I'm not sure what you do to fix him, but perhaps getting him to throw fewer meatballs down the middle of the plate might be a start. Is Rick Petersen available? Seriously, though, trading him now would be beyond stupid. You'd get nothing for him. You have to hope he fixes what's wrong.

  16. Boy, there's a lot of 'woulda, coulda, shoulda' about this season. Let's go Pete. Hit two more.
  17. So they have to win five in a row and Milwaukee has to lose five in a row. Simple. Have at 'em, boys.
  18. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=22717 time=1569358009 user_id=68] Fuck youse all. Kooz fucking deserves it 10 times over. Anybody here mentions Gary Carter and his two good Mets seasons and I'll projectile barf on you. Why Kooz over Wright? Because 36 should've been retired decades ago.
  19. Just need one more to finish over .500 (for only the 3rd time in the last 11 years).

  21. Smith's no pushover. And the Marlins may suck, but they play hard for Mattingly.
  22. So we're basically hoping for a 5-game sweep by the Phils over the Nats while the Mets run the table. https://pics.me.me/thumb_work-ents-memegenerator-net-mkay-south-park-mkay-meme-52832821.png>
  23. =41Forever post_id=22544 time=1569171327 user_id=69] =ashie62 post_id=22543 time=1569169962 user_id=90] Pete Alonso 51 please!
  24. Edgy MD wrote: How about that? Anniversary of the ball-off-the-wall play. In waning days of the division race and they have Wayne Garrett playing short and greenhorn rookie Ron Hodges catching. Yogi wouldn't have gotten away with that in the era of sports talk radio, fan forums and Twitter.
  25. You know, if you put a sketchy mustache on Ida Lupino, she'd look a bit like Daniel Zamora.
