    Stearns' deal runs through 2022 with a possible club option for 2023, so if you want him, you may have to wait two years. Cohen is used to offering bazillions and getting whoever he wants. MLB doesn't work that way.

    The Athletic had a good breakdown of why they're having problems. 1) Cohen is an unknown quantity and didn't get off to a good start with his Twitter criticisms. 2) Sandy (and his son Bryn) will have an undetermined amount of control over the new hire. 3) The job may be temporary, as they really want David Stearns, the Brewers POBO. They've been denied permission to talk to him but his contract is up after 2022. So any hire would be on an extremely short leash. Add to this the chaos in the front office since 2018, and it's not a recipe for success in a market where you're under the microscope. Given all this, it's not surprising they've had trouble finding a good candidate. So, in typical Met fashion, their wounds are self-inflicted.

    Are there no real baseball people who will work for the Mets? Is there some inside info that frightens off potential candidates? I'm sure Steve Cohen is demanding but so are most other owners. Something is just 'off' here.

    Ya know, sooner or later we'll have to hit paydirt on one of these Japanese guys. Young and seems to be an all-round player. I'd give him a spin.

    Conforto can leave, but I don't want him in the division. You know how that'll go. Badly.

    About 10 of those line items are priorities. Buy out Cano and kick his ass out the door. It's only money, Steve. And not mine at that. Someone's going to overpay for Conforto, being a Boras client and all, but it won't be the Mets. Agreed that the hitting is screwed up. And Quattlechili isn't the answer. Back to the old drawing board.

    I worry that with no GM and POBO, and a short deadline for signings since the CBA expires on 12/1, the Mets may get left out in the cold on a lot of free agents.

    Boy, that's a huge payroll if that's true, lol. I'd take a flier on Carlos Rodon. Oft-injured but really good when healthy. Probably could get him for short years and bucks, and he didn't get a QO from the Pale Hose, so no draft pick involved.

    If Cano is on this team next spring, I'll be surprised. Oh, and annoyed. Not that I'm in favor of it, but I get the feeling they're going to bring Baez back to keep Lindor happy. Which is an annoyance of a different kind.

    GABP surely inflated his numbers, and the draft pick attached doesn't make it any better. And his defense certainly hasn't improved in the last 3 years. So.....pass. As noted, there are better options.
