  1. MLB Network operating normally, talking about the lockout and its effects.
  2. That's very Pravda-ish of them. I thought their reporting side was independent from the business side but this proves that's not the case.
  3. I'd be shocked if any real negotiating gets done between midnight and the day after the Super Bowl. Only when shit gets real will the sides begin to talk in earnest. There's no pressure to come to a deal now, on either side. Once Spring Training gets threatened (and the regular season beyond that), you'll see some movement.
  4. Yeah, Gsellman just lost his way after that first year. He'll pop up in somebody else's bullpen, I imagine.
  5. Lindor was pissed at the way Jeff was playing second (kinda badly). Words were spoken, rats and raccoons were discussed, and bottom line.....Jeff's on borrowed time. Lindor's not going anywhere and the dynamic between the two won't get any better. There's no real space for him in the outfield, and Cano's going to play or DH unless Uncle Steve cuts bait (that's a lot of money to eat even for him). Add Bryant to this mix and you've got too many players and not enough positions. I know, injuries. But at least two of JD, Dom or Squirrel should be traded to open up this roster. I can't believe there'd be a taker for Cano even if there was a bad contract to take back in return. He's got more baggage than a Pullman car.
  6. I'm willing to move on. I think sooner or later he'd wear out his welcome, as he did with many Cub fans. Can be great, can also be maddening in stretches. I don't think the plate discipline he showed in his two months here was a long-term trend. Tigers are building a contender and they saw him as a piece to build around.
  7. With the pickups of Canha, Escobar, Marte and now Scherzer, everybody talks about that they're 'good clubhouse guys'. The comment was specifically made that Scherzer wouldn't have put up with the 'thumbs down' fiasco last year. So it'll be interesting to see how that plays out.
  8. Only hit .204, but the hits he did get seemed to be of outsized importance.
  9. Yeah, I could probably get by on $433,333 a year. Apparently other teams weren't willing to go for three years and nobody wanted to match the AAV. So money talks. Still need another starting pitcher, though. DeGrom/Scherzer, then a big dropoff to Walker/Carrasco/Megill or Peterson is not enough to get you through 162.
  10. Yeah, they're all in with this move. Not crazy about this deal but it's better than sitting on their hands I guess. I'm not looking forward to Max's age 39 season, though.
  11. Edgy MD wrote: Reports seem to suggest things were a moment away, and then no updates for the last hour. To bed. Boras is going to need a little time to take the Mets offer to the Dodgers and try to get them to top it. Yeah, this. Scherzer doesn't want to play for the Mets. If they give him $30 million or $60 million more than anyone else, sure, but if offers are even remotely comparable there's no way he's coming to Queens. It's Uncle Steve's money, but I wish he'd show Stroman a little [CROSSOUT]cash[/CROSSOUT] love.
  12. Was really hoping the Braves would pick him up.
  13. I like this move. Escobar's a solid player, and they didn't go so long that they block the way for Baty and/or Vientos.
  14. There are three kinds of currency in baseball- Money, players and prospects. The Mets need to get better, that much is obvious. Money's not a problem with Uncle Steve. There are players you can get without giving up draft picks (who become prospects) and there are players who'll cost you those potential prospects. There's enough of them out there right now that you can significantly improve your team without disturbing the future potential. Every draft pick is a crap shoot, but having both the 11 and 14 pick has to make you feel pretty good about stocking up your minor league system. And while money isn't necessarily that answer every time, like Steven Matz, it'll serve you more often than it won't. Long way around to say I'd rather get the guys that won't cost picks. You can upgrade the talent at the major league level as well as the minor league level. This is the path I'd like to see the Mets try.
  15. Steve is unhappy this morning: https://twitter.com/StevenACohen2/status/1463505594887852032 Well, that's certainly a way to attract potential free agents to your team. Not.
  16. Bob Alpacadaca wrote: I'd take Matz back in a heartbeat. We'd still need to sign a couple more starters. But he showed that we all thought he was capable and would likely be playing with much better defense behind him, assuming they sign Baez. This would be a low-risk, high-reward signing. He won't be low-cost, though. Focus on bringing Stroman back. He's a lot more crucial than Matz.
  17. Had a nice little year in Toronto, but I don't want him back, especially if it's an overpay. I simply don't trust him to keep it together if something goes wrong behind him. After winning 14 games he won't be looking for 5th starter money and he won't be giving the Mets any hometown discount. Pass.
  18. $17 million! Good for him, but relievers are a crapshoot.
  19. Will actually be in the LA area when the Mets play the Angels in June. It'll be tempting to go to the Big A.
  20. Mr Met reacts to the loss of his sparring partner: https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/images/701/articles/2017/06/mrmet-middle-finger-1497976636.jpg?crop=1xw:0.786xh;center,top&resize=980:*>
  21. I'm pessimistic about deGrom, which is why this one hurts. I'm tired of the "I'm completely fine, I just can't pitch" routine.
  22. Many moves are needed. And all without a GM. Ya know, for less than a $3 million difference, Thor could have stayed and built his value here. This kind of reinforces that the Mets are not a destination people want to go to. It also ups the ante for spending this offseason.
  23. There is the technical possibility that Bill Mazur was born on a raft in the South Pacific or while his mother was skydiving. Not guesses, just.....possibilities.
  24. There was nothing better than listening to the Schmooze driving home from Shea/Citi after a Met win. Even better if it was a day where the Yankees lost. We'll always be on the other side of the glass.
  25. I'm guessing there will probably be about 20 covers depicting something to do with Jacob deGrom in pain.
