  1. Terry probably should have 'no comment'-ed his way out of that one. But the questions would keep coming about 'what did you know and when did you know it?' because he was his manager for years and had to know at least a little of what was up. Mets probably should have had a statement ready for him to read at some point.
  2. Billionaires can outwait millionaires. MLB isn't negotiating seriously, and they're waiting for player solidarity to crumble. They locked out the players supposedly to 'jumpstart' negotiations, then didn't submit a proposal of any kind for almost two months. The players, in the scheme of things, aren't asking for all that much. But the owners have decided that pretty much anything is too much. Owners will implement the things they like (extra playoffs and the DH) which arguably make the game worse, and ignore the things players want (competitive teams spending money on their product, not manipulating service time and not treating the luxury tax as a de facto salary cap) which arguably make the game better.

The kids today, I imagine, don't give a single shit about this one way or the other. I'm with Methead and BG and think baseball has maybe achieved the worst of possible outcomes: fan apathy. While there are writers and fans who still rail against the devolution of this sport, it feels to me like the greater collective response (for those that even noticed) was a shrug. Yeah, this is pretty much where I'm at. It's a bad idea, but I don't have the strength (or the ability) to fight it. 2020 kind of primed us for this anyway. Maybe DeGrom will get to pinch hit once in a while.
  4. Jack Reed: Not the Senator from Rhode Island.
  5. Adrian Gonzalez, who I frankly thought retired a few years ago, hangs them up for real. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/02/adrian-gonzalez-announces-retirement.htmlhttps://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/02/adrian-gonzalez-announces-retirement.html
  6. I know the ship has probably sailed, but the minute MLB signed a contract for sports betting, Rose should have immediately been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Because now there's no reason not to.
  7. For a one-year deal, yes. But somebody will overpay for his past production and get burned for it.
  8. Papi should go into the HOF based on that shirt alone. Good for him, and good it was ONLY him. Bonds and Clemens will get in later when it's not the writers doing the voting. It should be as painful as possible for those two assholes.
  9. I'm not a gambler, but I'm really uncomfortable with how all the leagues have done a 180 and endorse and encourage gambling on the outcome of their games. There will be a betting and game-fixing scandal one day and I'm wondering how they're going to handle it. And the commercials are annoyingly relentless.
  10. =bmfc1 post_id=84216 time=1641564688 user_id=73] Hopefully, they keep it to the game instead of making it a baseball talk show with the game in the background but we'll see.
  11. I guess Steve's still working to make it a Met town, because 2021 sure wasn't it.
  12. I loved him in Airplane!
  13. With our luck, he's Mike Glavine.
  14. I"m hearing the folks of the Barley Prose Mets On Tap Podcast are going to be arguing about Buck and Really Dark Beer tonight. DARK BEER!!!!! https://d2z1w4aiblvrwu.cloudfront.net/ad/ncsq/jim-beam-something-different-small-7.jpg>
  15. Edgy MD wrote: Tim Teufel, and then Tom Veryzer. Randle really seemed like a guy who tried to get 1 but found it occupied when he arrived, but looking back, I see he never wore #1 before the Mets and never got to until his last stop blowing baseballs in Seattle. Eleven is a number I associate with blond white reserve infielders who wear glasses. Now I want to retroactively assign it to Mike Cubbage. And I guess there'll be no Ruben Tejada comeback....
  16. The old drunk staggers out of bed at the hot-sheets motel along old Route 13 fully clothed, reeking of Old Grand-Dad and Lucky Strikes, fumbling for his drug store sunglasses to shield his bloodshot eyes from the pitiless noonday sun. He shuffles barefoot among the empty liquor bottles on the floor, empties his bladder at the toilet that won't flush properly then vents at his laptop for a minute and 19 seconds, screaming into the void in the desperate hope that somebody will actually care enough to send him a little validation or even money to cover his back taxes. His task finished, he vomits quietly on his Members Only jacket for the third time this week and slumps in the rickety motel chair, completely spent, oblivious to the manager's pounding fist on the flimsy motel door echoing through the squalid room, portending forcible eviction.
  17. LBGM! (Let's Bucking Go Mets!)
  18. =ashie62 post_id=82930 time=1639422883 user_id=90] Buck is a good manager and I liked him on Seinfeld.
  19. Showalter's been away from the Yanks for 25 years and managed for other clubs in the interim so I'm ok with his former Yankeeness. Brad Brach certainly sounds like he's auditioning for bullpen coach or something, but it's good to know Buck can handle relievers. Just do it, as the Nike kids say.
  20. Buck won't bat people out of order and won't put up with 'thumbs down' stuff. (And of course no dikpix) None of the other guys particularly stand out for me. Geren, Ausmus, meh. The other guys, also meh. Jim Leyland turns 77 this month and smokes too much so I guess he's out.
  21. However he got in, I'm glad that Gil made it finally.
  22. =Fman99 post_id=82347 time=1638411644 user_id=86] I think they get it done just before P&C's report, so I'll go with Valentine's Day.
  23. He was a bit of a jerk, but he took the ball and gave it his all. He would have been the perfect final piece to the rotation.
