  2. I would have loved to do this with my youngest, but at that price, no thanks.

Were it not for Wright's 1st inning whiff, the Ike DP and Satin's groundout we'd have won the damn thing. or the two soft grounders with the bases loaded by Q and the errors. Or, except for the fact that we suck , and they own us in our own park.... all in all, I think there are any number of issues here. True. I really hope they can turn Byrd into a prospect or two, but I'm afraid they won't. I love that angle of the Shea Bridge...

  5. I think of the catch, too. I just thought of it again this morning when I saw Carlos Gomez make almost the exact same catch on MLB Network...
  6. 30. Byrd gets traded at the deadline, Ike still hasn't shown much change in his approach, and the use of the bullpen will rear its ugly head in the second half.

But was that the point? eff n Jeff can't lay it on Sandy for not spending in excess of a budget that they, eff and Jeff, set. Remember Sandy's changing budget from a few years ago, and then surprised that the bloggers kept track?
  8. Yeah, Neyer nailed it. I have never warmed to the place, and I likely never will.
  9. Sorry, but I'm of the belief that you can tell that a Wilpon is lying because his mouth is moving.

  11. I think this is one thing the Mets get right. Enshrine players of the Koosman, Harrelson, Franco level in the Mets Hall of Fame. Only those enshrined in Cooperstown as a Met get their number retired.
  12. I look at Anne Vyalitsyna, and I see Memo Paris.... The biggest difference between Seaver's douchiness, and Harvey's, other than 300+ wins, is Nancy.
  13. That's just it. I LOVE every Star Trek movie, too. I overlooked everything (minus the annoying lens flares) of the first rebooted movie, because I loved the way each character was portrayed by the new cast. I join you in your certified geekdom. I couldn't wait for this movie to come out - you didn't let me down, JJ Abrams did. I could see where this is a passable popcorn action flick, but it's Star Trek. It's supposed to be better than that. It's supposed to be more cerebral than a popcorn action flick. This was Star Wars with Starfleet uniforms.
  14. I thought this movie was a steaming pile of crap. When I read Vic's review, it made me want to make sure I hadn't lost my mind - this is the first movie that his view has differed so much from mine. My final take was to compare it to The Avengers; Joss Whedon's love of the material showed through in almost every scene in that movie. In this movie, JJ Abrams' lack of love for the material showed through nearly as much.
  15. Centerfield wrote: Carlos Beltran was one of the best Mets ever. I loved watching him play and rooting for him while he was here. I don't know if he will make the Hall of Fame, but I hope he does, and I hope he has a Mets logo on his plaque. It bothers me that so many Mets fans gripe about him and remember him for one at-bat. I think it's wrong. I'm a sap. I hope that Reyes and Beltran are the significant additions we make to our lineup next winter. I hope that the Blue Jays continue to free-fall and dump Reyes to us paying half his salary. I hope Beltran signs a reasonable one-year deal and has a career year and sparks conversation of moving the CitiField fences back. And I hope they all get World Series rings. So it matters to me. Your mileage may vary. I really like how you think :-)
  16. Mets confirm they will wear a patch portraying 8 and home plate this season. First look at the new patch:
  17. Rest In Peace, Kid....
  18. A few things - We went to Binghamton right after they opened the then new stadium. I got the same vibe that Edgy got - we spent one day at the zoo in addition to a couple of games at the park. We would have had no reason to go there if it weren't for the B-Mets. I've been going to games in New Britain for decades - Old Beehive field was interesting - the only ball park I've been in where the sun sets in center field - makes for some interesting at bats... The Newer stadium in New Britain is almost an exact duplicate of the stadium in New Britain. The outside facade is different, but the interior design and architecture is the same. The thought of the Mets possibly moving their AA team to New Britain finally has me excited about baseball again. When I told the Mrs. about this possibility last night, her first reaction was, "We have to get season tickets".
  19. I don't know if something is, imminent, or if this is just preparation, but I was just told that ESPN just put Kid's obituary into rotation.

  21. Jerry Izenberg on Gary Carter: Gary Carter may come off like a clich, to the point where a lot of other players mistrust him, but the genuine article comes along so rarely it can be hard to recognize when it looks you in the eye
  22. Bagwell, Biggio, Piazza, Raines. That's it. Fuck the rest...
  23. If I go at all, it will only to work the GKR events - I won't bail on them.

  25. Ceetar wrote: This one would've been nice in focus. Why i need a real camera. That's not out of focus, that's motion blur because your shutter speed was too slow - his glove is much sharper because there isn't as much movement there....
