  1. Well, Austin Warren seems like a bad idea.
  2. Mendoza holding off on the hook and Semien swinging the bat puts McLean in a position to exit the game with a lead.
  3. This guy is Randy Myers. That sort of heat from the left side is harsh.
  4. Also a good time for Soto to abandon his series strategy of turning over and grounding to second as often as possible.
  5. Will Waggy bat for Young against this guy?
  6. That wince by Bichette sure looks like the type of pain that could compromise a man on defense and at the plate (leading off the next inning).
  7. Re-acquire Antoan Richardson. Or, on the other hand, be mindful running against Freddy Fermin.
  8. The only hit in that seemingly neverending inning was off the cushion.
  9. Too much nibbling and missing by The Only.
  10. It's awesome. I also want to throw props to this St. Louis Browns logo of an existentially heroic batter leaning back and swinging his bat defiantly at the whole damned sky.
  11. Baty and Ewing really want to do a double-steal here.
  12. Song doesn't seem to make up for that .437 OPS with extraordinary range, does he?
  13. Three Padres starters — Machado, Song, Fermin — batting under .200 this evening. If McLean takes care of business, Jackson Merrill could join them before the game is over.
  14. Pads wearing a uni that makes sense tonight.
  15. Padres starting .126-hitting Freddy Fermin behind the plate. Mets trying to get Mark Vientos going against Canning. METS (28-35) STARTING PITCHER: Nolan McLean RHP 3-4, 4.21 ERA, 77 SO LINEUP: Carson Benge (L) RF Bo Bichette (R) SS Juan Soto (L) LF Jared Young (L) 1B Marcus Semien (R) 2B A.J. Ewing (L) CF Mark Vientos (R) DH Brett Baty (L) 3B Luis Torrens (R) C SAN DIEGO (32-30) STARTING PITCHER: Griffin Canning RHP 0-4, 7.16 ERA, 27 SO LINEUP: Fernando Tatis Jr. (R) RF Jackson Merrill (L) CF Ty France (R) 1B Manny Machado (R) 3B Gavin Sheets (L) LF Xander Bogaerts (R) SS Miguel Andujar (R) DH Sung-Mun Song (L) 2B Freddy Fermin (R) C
  16. There was a lot of discussion of that when he made the Hall of Fame in 1999, and again in 2009 at the 40th anniversary of the team's first championship. There are other money quotes in the article. It amounts to the notion that he'd have liked to stay, but his career happened the way it happened and its hard to say it could have happened another way. RYAN SHOULD HAVE BEEN A MET FOR LIFE | New York Post
  17. That's terrific. As I recall, it was a local scout who fell in love and was sending glorious reports in, but when a higher-level, broader-area, supervisor scout (was this Murff?) came into town to see what the fuss was about, Ryan stunk it up. But the higher-level scout was moved by the faith of the local guy, and said "If you believe in him that much, I'll confirm your reports."
  18. The New York Mets, back in the hunt for fourth place (and 12th place league wide!) return to San Diego for a brutally late (10:10 PM New York time) start. The Only Nolan McLean is expected to start for the Mets with Griffin Canning going for San Diego. Canning was a 2025 Met, and had a surprisingly strong first half before rupturing his Achilles at the end of June. That ended his season, which may have retroactively been as much of a difference maker in the team's last-day elimination as anything. Griffin's post-recovery showing has been less stellar, and he brings an 0-and-4 record and a 7.16 ERA into the start.
  19. Really solid win. I recommend Benge not do his fielding with his ice in his mouth.
  20. So many A.J.s on this team.
  21. Chasin' Miller, amirite?
  22. If nothing else, let's get Miller to burn as many pitches as we can.
  23. I'm not saying Luke Weavy is a 2026 All-Star, because that probably won't happen, but he's sure pitching like one.
  24. Bo Bichette is a single and a homer short of the cycle!
