  2. I said, "Wha'?" I said, "Box seats for free!" I said, "ALL RIGHT!" Scalp me, scalp me, scalp me! Seriously, how has no bitter ex-spouse spilled the URL and password info?
  3. Some inneresting names on that list when I went back to check. Neikro didn't even make the top ten. Finish the Top Ten of Non HOF-ers in starts 1. Greg Maddux 2. Roger Clemens 3. Tommy John 4. __________ 5. __________ 6. __________ 7. __________ 8. __________ 9. (Really Hard) 10. __________

More importantly, they should get more tax relief.
  5. No other active guys behind him. Pedro Feliciano is a five years with a full workload away from appearing on that list. Tim Byrdak too. Top Ten Active Guys 1. Mariano Rivera (43): 1072 2. LaTroy Hawkins (40): 893 3. Kyle Farnsworth (37): 827 4. Octavio Dotel (39): 758 5. Darren Oliver (42): 733 6. Francisco Rodriguez (31): 688 7. Derek Lowe (40): 681 8. J.C. Romero (37): 680 9. Dennys Reyes (36): 673 10. Joe Nathan (38): 669 Unless Hawkins finds a magic pitch, I guess the only one on that list that could make a threat would be a rejuvenated Francisco Rodriguez.
  6. Mets to DH Lucas and get some outfield starts for Jordany and Lagares, I guess. FUN FACT! Rick Ankiel, whose been here about 10 minutes, now leads 2013 Mets in plate appearance as a centerfielder. And it's a dogfight! Four guys within four plate appearance of one another. Speaks to how relatively early it still is and how up in the air that position is. 7. And Kranepool 1970 did. Life is fraught with peril. He knows what will get him back and he has to figure out how to deliver it.

Why shouldn't he get a legit shot? Not saying he shouldn't. Clearly the team has options but are shy about upsetting their long-term hopes for Davis.
  9. Yeah, I'm not sure he doesn't lose himself in his florid prose of contrast. Met fans write poetry, but we have no deep stirrings of the soul? B'sides, Yankee fans write poetry. You should hear this thing they do to the tune of "YMCA."
  10. And apart from my daily plotzing over Allan Dykstra, it's worth noting that Wilmer Flores has had multiple hits in four straight games.
  11. Thomas Boswell? Samuel Beckett?
  12. I'm not so sure that it isn't gouging, technically. It's certainly a non-essential good/service that they provide, so I'm not going to burn a flag over it. But raising the price to reflect increased demand, on a limited asset, in a marketplace that's artificially sealed off from competitive seller/producers --- sounds like a gouge to me. It being a common practice doesn't make it not so. My answer would have been along the lines of reminding Yankee family members that they were perfectly welcome to purchase $80 tickets to see the Mets and Braves. Got $30 burning a hole in your pocket? Plenty of good seats to the see the Marlins next weekend.
  13. I certainly don't think he lacks bat speed. He's just got an approach that's all flummoxed, and has failed at the internal game of figuring out what pitch to expect, what part of the plate to expect it, how to cover that part of the plate, and how to defend against being wrong. All players fail at it --- most fail seven times out of ten or more. But when you fail enough, you adjust your approach so much that you've lost faith in it and go up there clueless, and the slump becomes self-perpetuating. So you go back to basics. Start with one value and build off of that. Sometimes it's best to do that in the minors.
  14. Yankees invented the post-game on-field pieface, right?
  15. What's up with the Yankees since the last time we saw them? I think we need a new KTE. You know, to catch up.
  16. Turner is a non-option at shortstop, I think. His grace is that he may have more range than Murphy --- which is to say, not much of a grace. Mets have drafted many shortstops, but you're probably thinking of Gavin Cecchini, who hasn't graduated from short-season ball yet. He's struggling and I'm all on board with calling up Q, but it's important to distinguish what he isn't doing from what he can't do.
  17. Leathersich came on with a lead and one out in the eighth tonight. Gave up one hit but got all five batters on strikeouts.
  18. I'm watching this guy too closely not to be responsible for him. Another two hits and a HbP tonight and his OBP is up to .448. There are two adjectives to describe that. The first is "Bondsian," and the second is "stupid." Now at .306 / .448 / .530 // .978. Promote him up two levels now. We need a firstbaseman and he appears to need the money.
  19. May 27-28 Mets 4, Yankees 2 Mets 2, Yankees 1
  20. Maybe Girardi needs to activate himself. "Hey, Yankees, how about a one-inning ballgame. You pitch Rivera and we'll go with, um... Rice. What's that? Doesn't sound fair? OK, we'll spot you a run."
  21. MFS62 wrote: Did Terry have a legit complaint? What was the play? Not really. His complaint seemed to be that the ump changed his call mid-play. But Tejada was out when the ump made the wrong call and he was still out when he made the right one. Terry was probably more interested in firing up his team, which didn't really work, as they continued to play sloppy. Murphy's hit sure fired 'em up, though. Speaking of sloppy, this Sunday catcher the Yanks are running out there has had a lot of balls just go through his mitt. He should be on the next train to King of Prussia or wherever the Yankees send their AAA players.
  22. Rich Coutinho ?@coutinho9 6h Classy move by wilpons having mariano throw our first pitch rivera personfies qualities of hunger and humility as well as anyone. We should make a run at this Rivera guy when the trade deadline rolls around.
