  1. Big Parnell moment here. Real big.
  2. Yay, top of the order. Even the top of the Mets' order!
  3. Duda sucks in camouflage.
  4. Who at Big Fashion decided that big-but-light swirley springtime scarves would be in this year?
  5. Leah Niese is the Punisher on the bottom right.
  6. Tall blonde, third from the left, is Kelly Shepardson, the Recker fiance <> with the psycho engagement photos.
  7. Guys was on the hook for the loss in the re-continuation of the suspended game. The first non-complete game at the PbP mic in a while, I'm sure.
  8. If we're going to show them for what they are, it helps to do it at home. Strikes me that Memorial Day games should be day games --- listening to Bob Murphy at the beach and whatnot. And all the pomp and forced patriotism feels like it plays into Yankee hands, somehow. Anyhow, this one's on WPIX, rather than a national broadcaster, so that might reduce some of the ceremony. On the other hand, WPIX will never not feel like the home of the Yankees to me.
  9. Well, the two on the lower right are the only two in modest focus.
  10. Cowan seems to have left his chin bulbs in Chicago, along with his last modestly productive National League season.
  11. Yeah, if I have money to spend, spending it on the top free agent closer always seems stupid. There's just nobody "proven"" enough. It's just too volatile a role to ever think you have locked up. Look at the run Jimmy Johnson is on. (Maybe he should go back to NASCAR.) If that happens to Parnell, the Mets are screwed. They have to sit down and think, "What changes might we have to try to win more games?" But if that happens to the Mets four years ago, they have to wrestle with that question, but balance it against "How do we protect our investment?" A sucky dilemma to be sure. Those 2009 dollars added up to an A-Rod salary. A Pujols salary!
  12. 2004 Looper: $2,000,000 2005 Looper: $800,000 2006 Wagner: $10,500,000 2007 Wagner: $10,500,000 2008: Wagner: $10,500,000 Ayala: ~$700,000 2009 Wagner: $10,500,000 Rodriguez: $9,166,666 Putz: $6,000,000 2010 Rodriguez $12,166,666 2011 Rodriguez: $5,000,000 Isringhausen: ??? 2012 Francisco: $5,500,000 2013: Francisco: $6,500,000 Parnell: $1,700,000 That's a lot of change spent to little effect, and no small amount of it in Minaya's "Put it all on double zero!" year of 2009.
  13. Considering the amount of money spent in the last decade on relatively unreliable closers, I'd say the notion that we may have developed a homegrown one is pretty damn nice. That may be some serious dough and not a small amount of mental energy going in a different direction over the next few years.
  14. [bigpurple:2a4nwi0h]DIE![/bigpurple:2a4nwi0h]
  15. I guess it's a photo from earlier years for Cowan with handpainted pinstripes.
  16. Yes, they did. And there's nothing stopping them from reporting both numbers. But there's nothing motivating them either. Actually, I imagine there's nothing but the blessed weight of tradition motivating them to report either number. Back to the reason for this thread, there's a strange retroactive bitterness seeing Tidrow in a Yankee home uniform at Shea Stadium. Are there any other such unwelcome guests making themselves at home on those cards? Billy Cowan seems to be at Shea, but that can't be right.
  17. Bad, but probably not slated to take over the 1963 crown for "worst," as the spring months usually see some of the poorest hitting of the season. A lot can happen between now and then, as far as injuries or replacements. If Davis gets bumped, it'll likely be for someone likely to hit for a higher average and lower power. And then, maybe he won't get replaced at all. Whoever takes the bulk of the appearances in center the rest of the year, we have a lot of low-average candidates. 18. I'll die before I root for a team to do worse to get a better draft position. DIE!
  19. If Flores or Satin strains an obie, we check Ike's locker for voodoo dolls.
  20. I mean, I knew that they'd win again, someday, but man, it was getting hard to feel it. Parnell biting down hard on that bullpen ace job may just be the second best news this season. 1. Harvey 2. Parnell 3. Murphy, I guess. 4. ... uh... Duda, maybe
  21. Should probably send Lagares in to pinch run.
  22. And holy shmoly. It's on Ike.
  23. Man, hate those stands hugging the foul line.
  24. Do better, Wright. That is more. But Duda was the one I was hoping to get a crack here.
